This summer, I smiled when I saw he wanted a disney Cinderella book from the library, piled in with his trains and space books.

Curious when he spent 30 minutes reading large Cinderella book/phone thing at Wal-mart.

Puzzled at the Barbie fairytopia book, again borrowed from the library.

I got it. His best friend and kindred spirit from preschool, blond and blue-eyed Amelia, is moving to a different pre-K this fall. It never occurred to me, or I may have made some effort to hunt her and her Mom down for some play dates. They are always busy and have their own circle of friends (they're local, we're transplants).

I'll give them a call tomorrow.

My son is like that. The love of his life is Quincy, a blonde haired, gray eyed goddess. They did PK together for years. She made him a card showing them getting married. He rode in the Barbie car with her at the picnic.

Now, entering second grade, he still sighs longingly over her. He can't wait for Middle School to meet up with her again.

I've seen the fall out of early relationships in high school, so I always tell my kids they can't have boyfriends or girlfriends until they're in high school. So I haven't tracked Quincy down for a play date.

And he LOVES girls, by the way. Told me the other day, as I was brushing my hair, that he was weird. I asked him why, and he said because he liked girls. They're so pretty, he said reverently. I'm gonna have to keep my eye on him!

DS3's best friend from school is female and adorable, and he calls her his girlfriend. She is at the day camp this summer but he is not and her mother tells me she misses him and asks to come to his house everyday! We got back last week but they left a few days ago for Florida (and their first family DIsney trip too!) but we are getting together when they get back, and surprising the kids!

They will be in the same class this year, and again in pre-K the following year but then they will be in different schools for kindergarten. However I have become good friends with her mom so I am sure they will still see each other!

By the way, I think what you said is so adorable! Kids are great, and oh so sweet!

Maybe you're right. It's hard, esp. when I asked him, "school's in two weeks, do you remember any of your classmates?" And he answers quietly, "only Amelia."

I deliberately did not bring her name up at all this summer.

Sorry, I was posting to the first reply. Her mom is wonderfully sweet, they're just in a different tax bracket than us. I think they go to Disney every year.

My oldest nephew loved The Little Mermaid when he was little. Now he is grown up and married--to a girl with long red hair. Looks like those childhood preferences can stick with you.
