My first try at a trip report - Holy Man is it HOT!! UPDATED 1/17/2012

Sorry guys for the wait. Soo much going on and now my trip is only 9 days away. AHHHH.

Here is the next installment..... FINALLY

Ok only 9 days left to our next trip and I am not even close to finishing this.
Forward we push

A detour, a skip, a bump and we are there.

I couldn’t believe we were going. Oh this is going to be so much fun.
Ok so all of our planning was ok. I had found the Disboards and the Disdads. They have been soo much help. I can’t thank them enough. I was asking questions, reading message boards. I wanted to know what was going to happen and how we were going to handle it.

We packed up. We were prepared.
Ponchos from the dollar store, CHECK (we had way to many of them)
Sunscreen, glasses, sandals, medicine, etc, CHECK. Being that this trip was in May I don’t fully recall, but, I do believe we did not forget one item that we planned on taking! (which is really good for us)

Bags packed, weighed out so be within ‘airline requirements’ so we don’t have to pay extra. We were within I believe 2 pounds. It was close. 2 days to go I can’t wait.

Get up the morning of the flight. We were ready to go. Our boys however….. Well they were not. It was a 7am flight. We lived an hour and a half from the airport. Have to be there early for security…… I was up at 2am, our boys, we waited until 3. I got things loaded. My wife’s mom came over. She was going to take our vehicle back home for us. I drove. Ride was pretty quiet. No issues, until we got to Milwaukee. Construction heaven. Orange barrel and barricades everywhere. Now I don’t know Milwaukee that well, but I do know it isn’t too bad to get to the airport. Except when A) It is about 4:30 in the morning and you are tired, B) It is dark, C) THERE IS CONSTRUCTION EVERYWHERE!! Ah gotta love the Wisconsin weather. There is Winter and there is construction.

Not too bad. Made it through the construction. Made it to the airport. It was a bit chilly as it was about 40° F. We left our coats in our vehicle because we didn’t want the extra luggage.

Got our bags checked in. Waved to my wife’s mom and headed in the airport. I was expecting big lines, and a long wait to get through security, ( I hadn’t flown since 1996) because of what you always hear. I think it was a 10 deal. So now we are here early. None of the airport shops are open yet. So we just went to our seating area and had the boys work on their homework. That is right. They both had homework. Never see much in the form of it any other time, but since we are going to Florida on vacation we apparently needed homework.

We were the first ones there for our flight. So the boys did a little homework but were drawn to the windows as this was their first time on a plane. They were excited.

Slowly people came in.
Now it is about 6:00am and there is a lot of people there. A little while longer and you hear the attendants over the speaker, “Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to Air Tran airlines flight # (don’t remember). Looks like we are overbooked and we need 8 volunteers to take a different flight. No takers. A couple of minutes later same spiel now offering a free upgrade on a different flight. A few people asking but still no takers. Again, this time offering free tickets to anywhere delta flies. Now my ears have perked up as free is my favorite four letter f word. I asked my wife what she thought and she said no. Being it was our first trip she didn’t want to have to make a transfer or have a layover. Hard to argue with logic. So we passed it up. They found the people they were looking for and transferred them to other flights. It is now 6:30. The attendant calls our last name. We look at each other. I raise my hand. He walks over and says, “here are your boarding passes. We went ahead and moved you up to business class.”

WOW!! How better to start out our Disney trip than to be bumped up to business class for free. This is awesome. I am pinching myself again. How can this be true? Just awesome.

We board the plane and off we go…. IN BUSINESS CLASS. Which on this plane was just a little bigger seats, more leg room, and drinks that if you were in coach you would have to pay 2.00 for we got for free. Again I was over expecting but hey it was a free upgrade and you can’t complain about free.

Flight was smooth. No issues. Boys loved it. Thought the clouds looked like piles of snow. This is looking to be the beginning of a great vacation.

I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or an insult.

Both.

Couldn't have been too bad if she's letting you go back.

The attendant calls our last name. We look at each other.

Uh oh

I raise my hand. He walks over and says, “here are your boarding passes. We went ahead and moved you up to business class.”

Whew... what a relief. There are a lot worse reasons they could be calling your name before you board. Nice little bit of magic from the fine folks at Delta.

Was informed by my wife that it was Air Tran not Delta. Ooopps
