My First Post..a Newbie

HI..My name is V and I just found this message board yesterday. What an awesome site. It has so much helpful information and I still have many more posts to read. Thanks for all who post and give such great info.

I've been to WDW a dozen times but my DH and I are going with our DS 8yo and DD 4 (almost 5 at the time) on the Magic, 7day Eastern Disney cruise. We are all so excited beyond belief. I have a big sign counting the days. (we are leaving April 2nd).

I'm sure I will have tons of questions although they may already be posted but one question that I'm very curious about is our cabin. We are in Cabin
8520. Has anyone had this cabin? It's a Deluxe Family Stateroom w/Verandah. We originally booked it cause my stepdaughter was coming but she cancelled and we just decided to stay with it. I'm hoping its worth the extra money. Anybody who's stayed there, I would love to hear your comments.

Welcome, as a Newbie myself, I can't help with your questions, our first cruise is in July. I find myself checking these boards often, 10 to 15 times a day. I am amazed at what I learn. My DW also posts and checks often. Enjoy.

Hi, welcome to the DIS board! I'm sure you'll become a seasoned poster very quickly as I did-it can be addicting too. My shortcuts aren't working, but here's a couple suggestions for you. Be sure to check out dcltribute.com. Dave's DCL tribute will help you understand the navigators better and every thing about the Disney ships. Check out, the Port Canaveral Cam provided by local6.com. Check out the thread regarding the best packing advice given. There's tons of ideas for you and your family. My fav is taking the over the door shoe hanger to hang over the bathroom door. We were able to keep toiletries, and other little items up and out of the way. Umm, be sure to check out your cruise date thread and meet fellow DIS cruisers. It's like having a family reunion when you meet fellow DISers once on board or waiting to embark. ((I'm supposed to be going to bed!)). Most above all have a great time cruising the DIS board. Happy posting!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. It is totally time consuming (this board). I am an addict! I didn't get my question about the cabin answered so I think I will start a new thread so people see it. I cant believe how much info I am finding out. Things I wouldn't have even thought of asking. I love it.


Corryn..I notice you live in Holtsville. I grew up in Bay Shore and moved out to Ridge when I got married. My hubbys job transferred us to St Louis, MO so I've been living here since last May and I love it here but I still miss Long Island. Especially the beaches!

Hey V! I bet you saw on the news how much snow we got this past weekend & I bet you don't miss that! Although, doesn't St. Louis get snow, too?
Yeah, I would miss the shore, definitely. I grew up on the Sound in The Bronx and moved out here. I don't think I could handle not being able to be a hop away from the ocean, but New York isn't the center of the universe and I'm sure it's very nice in St. Louis. I'm sure I'll meet you again on the Boards! Have Fun and good to meet you

I spend a lot of time in Bay Shore....at the South Shore Mall!! Its gotten worse and worse over the years though and I will only go during daylight hours now, to scary at night!

When are you going on your cruise? My cruise starts on Sunday, April 24. Are you taking the cruise after mine? or are you taking my cruise?

Unfortunatly we are on the one after you! We are on the April 30th Eastern. We went on the Western last year so we wanted to try the eastern this year.

Welcome, V! I too am from LI, and grandfolks lived in Ridge (Leisure Village)

Anyway....I don't think a cat 4 is that much bigger than a Cat 6. If you can switch, and if it saves you alot of $$, then I don't think you'll miss the extra footage. If not, no worries, you'll have a great trip and a great room!

Thanks Jen. I dont think I can change now because when I went to check the current price on the cruise it showed no availablity (at least no avail for 2 adults, 2 children). I'm not even sure how much extra we spent so it may not be that huge of a difference. I'm just wondering how good that deck is in general. I'm concerned with activities above us it may not be sound proof. I guess I shall see.

Just hearing about the South Shore and Smithhaven Mall and Leisure Village makes me feel like I'm there. Of course since you guys are getting pounded by snow, I'm glad I'm not..hee hee

Yeah this area can be a little confusing if you're not familiar. It sounds like you've got the jist of it though! LOL
We live east of you, towards downtown (I guess St. Louis Universtiy would be the closest real landmark near where we live.)
