Laura (me) - age 34
Joseph - age 7 - my nephew/Godson
The original plan - Family Magic Tour in the morning, Crystal Palace for lunch, Joseph's choice in the afternoon
The revised plan - Family Magic Tour in the morning, Crystal Palace for lunch, Epcot (finally) in the afternoon/evening
What really happened ...
I had the alarm set for fairly early that morning. We had to get ready, have breakfast, catch a bus to MK and meet at City Hall for 9:45 to check in for the Family Magic Tour. The FMT was one of the few things that I had kept from my original "plan everything, fast-paced" itinerary. I though Joseph would enjoy and he seemed to be looking forward to it. When the alarm went off, Joseph was sound asleep. My attempts to wake him resulted in his burying himself deeper under the covers. I waited a little bit and tried again. Eventually, he peeked his head out from under the covers, declared himself still sleepy and asked if he could sleep a little later. Although I knew it would result in my losing the non-refundable $50.00 I paid for the tour, I explained to him that if he wanted to sleep, we would miss the tour. That is what he chose, so I turned off the alarm and let him sleep in.
Once we were up for the day, we had a quick breakfast in the food court (as usual, pancakes and bacon for Joseph and french toast for me). Since we had PSs for Crystal Palace for lunch, it made sense to head off the the Magic Kingdom. (No argument from Joseph there
) Once at the MK, we made the rounds of our usual rides - Splash Mountain, Big Thunder and Haunted Mansion (twice each). HM had no lines and we used FastPasses for Big Thunder while waiting on line for Splash. After that, we saw Mickey's Philharmagic again - Joseph absolutely loved it!!
We made our way to The Crystal Palace (about 20 minutes late for our PS) and were seated within ten minutes. Eeyore and Piglet came around right away, but we had to wait about 35 - 40 minutes for Tigger and Pooh. After lunch, Joseph wanted to do some more swimming before we went to Epcot, so we made our way back to the hotel.
The afternoon was spent getting fake tattoos and swimming. Before we knew it, it was close to 4:00. Joseph wanted to go to MGM and then Epcot. Knowing that MGM closed at 7:00, and also knowing that Future World (the only part of Epcot that seemed to interest Joseph) also closed at 7:00, I told him that he would have to choose between the two. Being the good kid that he is, he told me to make the decision since he'd "been making all of the decisions up until then."
Although it would mean no cheese soup for me, I decided on MGM. Joseph had never been to Epcot before, and I was afraid that if he was disappointed, it would stink to waste his last park evening. We grabbed a bus to MGM. It was empty when we arrived. Joseph didn't want to ride Rock 'N Roller Coaster again, so we made our way to The Great Movie Ride. We walked right on (and got the cowboy scene this time). After that was over, Joseph asked it we could go to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Play It. We grabbed some FastPasses for the last show, and had a little time to kill. Joseph got some ice cream, and we people watched for a few minutes.
We used our FPs and made our way into WWTBAM-PI. The fastest-finger question was fairly easy and I thought for sure I would make it into the top ten. I was disappointed to see that my seat number was not on the list, until they put up the seat number of the person to go in the Hot Seat -- it was me!!!! The stage-hand came to help me make my way up to the center - Joseph wanted to come with me, but I explained that he'd be able to see me the entire time.
I was so nervous (and needed help getting into the Hot Seat - it is really tall). Let me tell you, it is much easier playing it from the audience that actually being up there. I was flushed and my throat was dry. I used the "ask the audience" to determine United Airline's slogan and used the 50/50 to determine what the "Tar Heel" state was. I wasted my "ask a complete stranger" question on somebody who made me repeat the question twice and never gave an answer before time ran out. All that aside, I made it to the 64,000 question before guessing wrong. After that, they ushered me off-stage (Joseph was waiting in the sidelines for me) and I had to fill out paperwork, claim my prizes and sign a waiver stating I wouldn't try for the hotseat for the next 30 days.
Once all the paperwork was done, Joseph wanted to call home to tell his parents about the hot-seat experience. He also wanted to tell his grandmother (my mother). By the time the calls were made, it was after 7:00 and the park was closing. Joseph had no interest in Fantasmic, so we headed off to the hotel for a food-court dinner (Pizza for me and Joseph). We still had a little souvenir shopping to do, so we grabbed a bus to Downtown Disney. A few hour (and lots of $$$) later, we were back at the hotel. Joseph went to sleep, and I attempted to fit everything back into the suitcases.
The plan - well, I guess we weren't meant to make it to Epcot, but I'm not complaining - I got into the Hot Seat
. As for the Family Magic Tour - although some money was wasted, it would have been cruel to drag him there. He would have been exhausted all day, and I think that extra sleep in the morning was necessary.
Stay tuned for day 5 (the day we leave and my final thoughts) ...
