We just got back from my first DVC stay! We stayed at BWV in a studio. My aunt, uncle and 3 cousins were with us in a studio next door. (We have 2 young sons, one under the age of 2, so 1 of my cousins stayed in our room.) We checked in on Sunday, 5/30. DH and I got our room number, but they weren't able to tell me my aunt/uncle's room number or let me get them checked in. The check in process was quick and we were on our way to our room. I was surprised it was already available for us since it was 11:30 or 12:00 when we got there. The room was on the 4th floor (room request for a high floor granted). We walked a very short distance from the elevators and found our room - #4057. I walked into my first DVC room and actually got a little teary eyed which is unusual for me. I was just so excited to finally be at my DVC "home". I did a quick look around and headed for the balcony to see what we would be looking at for the next week. I was so surprised to open the curtains and see we had a VILLAGE GREEN view! (Room request for that view granted!) The view was great -- we could see the part of the BW from Flying Fish to the ESPN Club. We could see the BC and at night even watched the MK fireworks from our balcony. It was fun to sit out and watch people coming and going, peer into the lobby, and enjoy the grassy area below. My aunt and uncle got there a couple of hours after us and checked into their room - right next door to ours! (Final room request granted!)
The studio was a little tight and I could certainly see the advantages of having the extra space of the 1 bdrm. (Uh oh!) DH and I took the queen bed and our 3 yr old son and 1 of my cousins (girls ranging from 11 yrs to 14 yrs) took the sleeper sofa which was suprisingly comfortable. We took a kids aerobed for my 1 yr old and put it in front of the dresser. During the day we put the aerobed between the queen bed and the wall to clear some floor space. By the time we got the highchair out and pulled the table out so we could all get around it, the room was a little on the small side. It was not uncomfortable, but we were having to move around each other carefully at times. We were able to get all of our things in the dresser and closet and stow our luggage under the deacons bench, so at least that was out of the way.
We actually own at BCV and DH & DS#1 stayed there last year. (DS#2 got sick just before we left, so he and I stayed home.) We had rented points for that stay and DH liked it so much that he finally ok'd me to buy in. He commented several times during the trip that he thought he liked BWV even better than BCV. Until late in the trip when he walked over to BC...after he looked around for a few minutes he said he really couldn't decide which he liked best! Wonder if that will hold true as we visit more resorts!?!
Prior to buying DVC (and the one rental last year) we stayed at value and moderate resorts. I enjoyed those stays (LOVE POR!) but always thought it would be neat to try out one of the deluxe resorts. I remember visiting those resorts for dinner or to just look around and seeing the people checking in, sitting on their balconies, and enjoying the resort itself. I would think to myself, "Who are these people that can afford this? I could never justify $300-400+ to stay at one of these places." Well, now I know at least 1 of them...ME!
So glad we bought into DVC and I'm now vacationing like I WANT to vacation at WDW!!
