I finally ordered it! :goodvibes

Nikon D40 Digital SLR Kit, 18-55 and 55-200mm Lenses, 2 DVDs and Free 2GB Memory Card

for the money, it was my best bet. I hope I made a good choice. (yeah, yeah, some of you would rather I went with a Canon, sorry 'bout that) Thanks for all the help! :goodvibes

Well, although it isn't a Canon, it will be good to learn on until you get a Canon! :cool1:

Nah, just kidding. Congrats on your purchase! I'm sure you will grow to LOVE the camera. It is a whole new world you are stepping into. Be sure to share some pics!

Huh! Try Pentax!!! :woohoo:

Anyway, congratulations!!! There is no such thing as a bad DSLR. To me, the biggest thing to get used to was the extra control of DOF. Your average "whatever DOF" apertures are the ~f/8-11 range, which is smaller than your typical p&s can even go.

Congratulations on your purchase. I know you will enjoy using it. You *did* book a WDW trip for a photographic "shakedown cruise", right?

That is just one of the great points of this board. It is not about which camera you have. Just help for those trying to get better shots.

Excellent- Congratulations. Welcome to the DSLR club.

You bought good.... :thumbsup2

For now... ;)

See, you now have been infected with the PhotoBug. :rotfl2:

The camera you bought? Its good. But after awhile, it won't be good enough. Soon you will need a better one which means more money. Those lenses are fine but eventually you will be saying, "Dang it, that photo would have been better if the lense was wider or longer." Or "Fudge, the lense is not fast enough." So off you go to buy that longer lense, The wider lense. The faster lense.... :lmao: :rotfl:

Welcome to the asylum.

Seriously Enjoy! I love taking photos even if it can be expensive. Though I guess its cheaper than golf. Told the wife last night I wanted 5K so I could get a D3. She said and I qoute, "Yeah, Right." :rotfl:

Mine said the same thing when I asked her for the D3 and 600 f/4 VR :)

Congrats on the new camera, welcome to the wonderful world of Nikon and the horrible disease known as NAS.... :)

You guys are brave. I haven't even mentioned the D3 to DW. I've thrown around the idea of new camera (reading between the lines,,,, D300), but haven't really mentioned specifics like COST! She's being a finincial hound until she goes back to work in Sept. I don't think I would even get any type of response if I mentioned the D3.

To the OP:
