My first DIS vent...

That was a nice article, bsnyder. I like the way De Niro is supportive of the troops. I remember an article in the paper a few years ago. It mentioned that he had been at Ft. Benning visiting the 3rd Ranger Battalion (this was during an open house event for family and friends) as the guest of a friend whose son was in the unit. One of the Rangers came up to him and told him that De Niro was his hero. De Niro smiled and said "No, you're MY hero".

I have only two things to say.
1. Just because someone is anti-war does not mean
they do not appreciate the jobs done by those in the
military. Working for Peace is the ultimate way to
protect and support ALL Americans.

2. Some people think that because many of us do
not agree with the current administration's policies
of aggression we are anti military. Au Contraire! We
are anti war and for Peace so against the policies
that create dangerous conditions for our military and
foreign service folks abroad. Quit making these
issues about "you" and realize that they are
global opinions, meant to make military jobs much
easier. Or maybe you PREFER violence?

shortbun, you were doing OK there until your last sentence. What on earth would ever make you think anyone would prefer violence?

Or maybe you PREFER violence?

No, I prefer FREEDOM. It is an unfortunate fact of life that sometimes violence against those that threaten our freedom is the only way to maintain it. If you have a better solution, I suggest you run for office and implement your plan.

AFR,

Could explain to me and maybe shortbun what would happen if there were no military. Do you think that her opinions maintaining her freedoms would change if it were on her front steps.

Shortbun is Right On:D :D :D . One of the MOST important functions of a federal government is to PROVIDE FOR A COMMON DEFENSE. Many who are opposed to invading IRAQ are NOT anti-military.

Our entire Vietnam experience is illustrative here. The early anti-war activists were called Communists, ingrates, queers, and the like. In the end, it was the PEOPLE,not the politicians and generals, who brought an end to the war...........too late for the
56,000 BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN who died so needlessly.

I believe in a STRONG military. Strength ultimately is the BEST DETERRENCE . However, just because we're the strongest doesn't mean that we're justified throwing our weight around as it pleases us.

MIGHT DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN RIGHT!!!!!:(

My grandfather served in the Army Air Corps in WWII
My father served in Vietnam with the Air Force
My brother went through the breech into Iraq with the US Marines during the Gulf War
My fiance' also served during the Gulf War with the Navy

I love the military. :) :) :)

Hey Brenda, are you sure this is your first DIS vent? You seem very professional. ;) ;) ;)

It's the military training Sonja ;)

The early anti-war activists were called Communists, ingrates, queers, and the like. In the end, it was the PEOPLE,not the politicians and generals, who brought an end to the war...........

They were also the ones that greeted returning soldiers by spitting on them and screaming "baby killer" in their faces. Yes, that's a very effective way to get the government to change policy.

I believe in a STRONG military. Strength ultimately is the BEST DETERRENCE .

What you don't seem to grasp is that there is NO deterrence unless other countries know that we are willing to use force when necessary. The largest, best equipped military in the world is totally useless if a country is unwilling to use it, even in the face of threats against us.

Brenda, as the daughter, sister, cousin, and mom of several military service men and women, I salute you and all those who are willing to fight for our freedom. Thank You!

When we're threatened, or attacked as on 9-11, then we should unleash the FULL WRATH OF OUR MILITARY MIGHT.

However, the administration has yet to make a case to our people and the world community that Saddam is an imminent threat. It's clear that Bush is just itching to kill him. Perhaps the thought of eliminating Hussein, who tried to murder his father, "turns him on" in a sick sexual fashion. Who knows?? I've just never seen a President so trigger-happy about getting our brave soldiers killed. Let's hope that the U.N. inspections thwart his ugly preoccupation.........

How many people saw al-Qaeda as an imminent threat prior to 9/11?

Sorry, but I don't see any reason to sit around and wait to get hit again. If we have the means to stop another attack on this country, even if it means blowing the stuffing out of another country, so be it.

You said it better then I could. I'm glad I hit the back button. Maybe it would would make more sense to Eros if the attack was on the Fashion Cafe in NYC.

ALLLLLLLrighty then. Here we go:

IMO, and my opinion only, violence is starting to become more preferable to the constant:

I DO take issue with a President who has his own bloodthirsty vendetta to depose Saddam at almost any cost.

Hey, you'll be luxuriating in the Florida sun while George W. and the Beltway crowd are digging out.

GEORGE W. would have responded precisely in the same way

Hmmmmmmmmmm. We all know that George W. is just soooooooo anxious these days to unleash a torrent of death which will inevitably kill innocent Iraqi women and children. We also know that the good old U.S. of A. can unleash "death from the skies" 1/2 way across the world...........

Wouldn't it make sense for the Feds to show some real leadership in assisting the D.C. municipality with snow removal ?????????? I guess that killing is just easier..........

Thanks, CAITY . 4"=chaos?????? I guess that George W. isn't the only "pansy" down there

That figures, CAITY. GEORGE W. is the KING of ineptitude

I Loooooovvvvvvve jokes about our enemies . They make us feel soooooooooo superior

I'm not sure what's worse: EROS's constant slobbering after models or his constant hacking away at the President.

I know you got some jones on about President Bush, EROS, but there are other political boards you can go to that will be more than happy to listen to your political head-banging. I don't know about the others here, but I'm getting pretty sick of "George W" this and "George W" that. PATOOIE!

Just as you have your "right" to post your opinions, so do I. I don't consider it an attack to say that I'm getting sick of the skipping record so I'm not going to apologize for my statement.

*stands, claps, cheers and whistles for LL*

BTW LunarLady, your earlier post on this thread was also right on target IMO. People need to remember that the military members just carry out the orders that we are given. We don't make policy, we enforce it.

Having said that, I've not met a single solitary military member that opposes war with Iraq. And I'm not talking about the generals at the Pentagon that are putting together their commentator resumes for after retirement - I'm talking about the people that would actually have to go in-theater and deal with the day to day horrors of war.

Okay. .
I think there have some nice posts and some very interesting and profound viewpoints expressed, but it's (understandably) a subject people can't help take personal.. .

This isn't because of any particular person or statement . .
but because I don't feel like sitting here all night editing posts, I think it's time to put this one to bed.. .

Hope everyone understands. .
