I've used Printmaster for YEARS to do an ancient version of digital scrapbooking long before I turned to paper scrapping in 1999. But it has a hokey looking ...and I had to print them out since online photo services weren't as popular. I could never understand anything about the Photoshop Elements 2.0 version I've had even though I has a BS degree in computer science. That program was just not user friendly.

Well, after seeing all the free new digi-scrapping stuff online, I decided to try Photoshop Elements 5.0 since its supposed to be so much better.

After watching just the 15 mins of promotional videos on their site about what the software can do, I created this -- without even opening the book!!!!

(sorry, not the best shot of the card- but I suppose I could try to fix that with PE5, right? lol)

Navigate to the next photo for the inside of card.

I cheated on the inside & went back to Printmaster, just because I knew I could whip that part out in under 5 minutes total including cutting & putting in the card. lol

My first love was digi-scrapping.....I find paper scrapping frustrating at times due to limitations of colors or sizes. Looks like I maybe making a return to digital!!!! And I have a much better printer now & printed the card myself. Plan on using online services though for printing layouts.

Of course I'm going to look at the manual this time to learn as much as possible. But this version is already so much more user friendly its almost pathetic!!!

BTW, the card was for a friend & her DH that bought their first house yesterday. Built 1920s. I secretly took a pic before they closed on the house...and turned it into the card. Her DH loves history...and he thought that was just SOOOO cool that I used their house & made the pic look old. She didn't even recognize it at first. lol

very, very nice. what a thoughtful thing to do for them. i just love how it looks like an old photograph. with the deckled edges, like they used to have.

i wish i could do digi scrappin', but i don't think i have the patience for it!

I really like how it came out - very nice!! :thumbsup2

We are still in the process of getting the room up here finished and set up but when it is I really want to get more into digital photography and I believe you have convinced me to get PE5. But I am afraid that I will get away from paper scrapbooking, and I have enough supplies to start my own store!

Based on my past experience with PE2....THIS was a piece of cake. It really wasn't any thing more than just a couple of steps. They've done a great job of simplifying the program....but the tools are all still there & more.

Just wanted to add.... Have you heard of the book - Photoshop 5.0 The Missing Manual by Barbara Brundage? It has been getting good reviews. I will have to see if Barnes & Noble has it next trip....which might be tomorrow! :)

Funny you said that. I was ready to order it today. But I know that Scott Kelby's books get great reviews too. Well someone on the Photography board showed just a couple of days ago (Mon I think) how they fixed a dark photo / white background, that honestly, I would have deleted in a second. She said she got Scott Kelby's book this weekend & fixed the photo. She said she like the book because it taught by real life examples, not by just going thru each menu option.

Problem is that Scott Kelby's has several books, so I've PM'd her asking for the title of the book. I'm really thinking of getting both books since yes, I've heard great things about Missing Manual. I thought it would help with scrapping if I could learn all the tools, where I thought Kelby's book teaching by example might not cover something like scrapping.

I'll let ya know what the title is when she replies.

Jill, funny I just had the conversation with someone on another board. I too have alot of supplies. I'm HOPING to do a combined digital / paper method. Like on the card for instance, I printed the photo/scrap layout, but then mounted in on cardstock to create another mat. And more paper inside.

Also, if doing a digital layout, I'm going to try to use up some real embellishments to add texture to an otherwise flat digital layout.

So, no limit to what we can do now!!! :teeth:

My problem with paper scrapping was always the paper color & placement/size of pics. So, I'll cure that digitally...and still get to use up alot of the "fun" stuff we all like to buy. ;) :rotfl:

I received my response. The other book was Scott Kelby's "Photoshop Elements 4 for Digital Photographers". So I'll be looking into the version for PE5 -- along with The Missing Manual.

You should try Scrapbook Explosion by Nova Development. I think that you'd really like it. It's my favorite digital scrapbook program.
