Well, we just returned from a 14 day trip that included Cocoa Beach, Hard Rock Hotel and 8 nights at a 2bedroom dedicated at BCV. We bought BCV last May unseen after we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. There were good and bad points to this visit, although they were all very personal and unique to our family. After having stayed at Wilderness Lodge, I really wanted to purchase there, but at the time, it was not available through Disney and I was very unknowledgeable about resales, etc. We stayed at BCV but my heart was really at Wilderness Lodge and I felt like I got my seasons mixed up-Like BCV would have been perfect for our May visit and Wilderness lodge better for this trip-Oh Well! Our villa was clean and nice-We loved the setup. We had room 433 with two queens in the second bedroom, I really had decided that I didn't care about a view and I really didn't have much of one-it overlooked a quiet path which was fine. The only dirty thing I noticed was the bench in the kitchen was filthy with stains-I would be embarassed if something in my own home looke like this. But we really never used it all week so we just ignored it. My water obsessed/swim crazy 10 year old did not like SAB-Go figure-I thought I would have to drag him away but he was much more into the theme parks, especially Magic Kingdom.

Now for the hard part, We're not really sure if we want to keep our membership. I've learned from these boards that it's not as easy to trade or book other resorts a the seven month window. We've found BCV to not be our "favorite" as far as theming goes. Also, I'm changing careers soon and becoming a teacher and will only be able to go to Disney at peak times. Add to that, my husband and I are very Disneyed out and want our next few vacations to be at Hawaii or elsewhere. I'm not rushing into any decisions as it is easy to be burnt out after a 14 day vacation, but I am concerned with trading and the ability to book at the 7 month window.

Thanks for the post about your trip! Wow 14 days!.

I wouldn't rush into selling right away. Yes, you could sell BCV and buy VWL but I would be patient. Couple of thoughts. 1) you can on the list for VWL points from Disney if you want to do a small add on (maybe 25-40 points and make it work with banking and borrowing). Also, I think there are no stead fast rules re: 7 month window. I was able to book a 1 BR, standard view at BW yesterday for February 14th. That's only 66 days in advance on Valentine's Day and President's Weekend. The other option is BCV is popular because of SAB. You may be able to trade with owners so you each get the 11 month window at times.

Just a few of my thoughts,
Enjoy
Sandy

I was under the impression that the studios at BCV had one queen bed and a sofa bed. I have a trip booked this summer and want the bed/sofa bed setup. Is this something I should be calling MS about tomorrow??? Another question...what is the difference between a dedicated and a lockoff? Thanks!

BTW, our trip, last week, was booked at OKW at the 11 month mark and changed to BWV at the seven month mark, without any waitlisting. It was the only resort with availability, at the time, but I've read quite a few posts on these boards of people finding rooms at other resorts less than the seven month mark.

What's interesting is that after a long DVC vacation I'm usually wanting more as opposed to feeling "Disneyed out". After a long trip, I ususally start thinking about how much an add-on would cost.

Thanks for the post.

433 is a dedicated that is why there are 2 queens in the 2nd Bedroom. A studio will have 1 queen and sofa bed.

Difference between a Lockoff and Dedicated if you are the studio or 1 bedroom renter is that a door in your room connects to someone else's room

Difference between a lockoff and a dedicated if you have a bedroom 1) 2 queen beds in second bedroom (instead of queen and sofa) 2) extra "wet bar" area instead of storage space 3) 2 door to the hallway instead of 1

Hope that helps

I want the studio to have the bed/sofa. What should I be requesting? Will I not have a connecting door to the studio from the one bedroom? Will I have one entrance door or one to the one bedroom and one to the studio? Thanks! :D

If you want a studio and a 1 bedroom, you need to request a 2 bdrm lock-off.

You will have 2 hallway entrances and a door in between the 2 units.

HtH!

We just returned from a great vacation.. and had a 2 br lockoff and a dedicated 2 br. Evidently not all lockoffs have a sofa sleeper. 463 was our lockoff and it had two queens. Also, a big difference to our family was the lockoff only had one sink, whereas the dedicated 2 br had dual sinks.

Being a VWL fanatic (or so I'm told! ;) )....I can certainly understand your feelings about it. We too prefer the theming of VWL, but like all the resorts of DVC and would be excited to have a trip in any of them. You can see why the advice here so often is to buy where you want to stay the most, especially if you have an emotional attachment to a place.

Also, I'm changing careers soon and becoming a teacher and will only be able to go to Disney at peak times.
I'm assuming this means that you can go in the summer? We vacation during the summer and have had no problem booking various resorts at the 7 month window at that time. While it is busy, at least the summer break is spread out over three months so no particular week is brutal for reservations.

To me, this is your real issue. As was pointed out, for most people here, a trip to WDW only whets their appetites for more! And because the commando touring style can be done away with, we actually come back from WDW vacations feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Good luck in your decision...and I agree that it's not one you need to rush into.

I would not really worry to much about not trading into other DVC resorts at the 7 month window. These boards over exagerate how hard it is to get into other resorts other then your home resort. I have been to every single DVC property and I have never used the 11 and hardly even the 7 month window. I am like yourself I love VWL but guess what? I do not own there. Have I ever had trouble getting into VWL, the answer is no problem at all.
