Why don't you hire a car in LA and have the freedom of going to the other parks, shopping and a bit more sightseeing?

Hold out on the fares and book the accom :thumbsup2

And maybe do a 2 day Disneyland jaunt?

Carsland, you gotta see it

clown car perhaps???:rotfl:

i do want to go to DL but am nervous re DVC villas..only 48, and I have the luck of the Dodo......

but I would rather not have to fly more with cranky toddler, oops meant lovely DH:rotfl2:

and the crowds are less at DLR at this time, its "dream " season at WDW...2nd busiest season...

OK DLR it is....I really dont want to have to leave the resort except to waddle over to taco bell:rolleyes1

Cheesecake factory is around the corner ;)

why am i so scared to try DLR???? maybe i just think its small, over crowded and not WDW.......

I'm a ninja firefighting pirate.....I can do anything.....then why cant I bring myself to want to go to DLR?????

ok, taco bell and cheesecake factory......stomach pump when i get home:thumbsup2

I've not been to WDW...yet

But I love DLR, it hasn't been crowded when i've been there, no ADR's needed and not as much time needed so you can have trips to other places as well.
Hire a clown car and head down the coast to SD and do a little harbour cruise, or drive up the coast and head to SF and stop in Carmel.
Then go to the Napa Valley like you half planned

Don't compare.

But I do prefer DLR over WDW.

I've not been to WDW - but I have been to DLR in January and walked onto almost everything for a week, I imagine Feb would be similar - and Universal on a weekday in January was practically deserted. DLR is smaller, but that makes it easier to get around...no less attractions..and Carsland looks fantastic. But I feel the same way about WDW as you do about DLR, I love DLR so much that I don't want to go to WDW and be comparing it the whole time and feeling let down.

One of my co-workers spent 3 months in the States last year and visited WDW and DL. I asked her which park was her favourite and she told me that you can't compare one to the other - they're so different. To be honest, once I visited DL I thought there was no way I would want to go to WDW, but after reading the views of those on the Dis our next trip will be to Orlando. (now to find a way to have DH think it's his bright idea to go on another holiday :rolleyes1)

I'm pretty sure I've seen clown cars in Anaheim too :thumbsup2

Trying to decide whether today would be a good day to give up trying to pick fly pooh out of the pepper.

Well many of you know me, the one who feels like the biggest traitor of all because, after years of visiting and being totally in love with DLR, visited WDW for the first time last year and have now pushed DLR back to my second love because WDW wins hands down!! :lovestruc However, that is probably partly because we stayed onsite and I loved the total Disney immersion. :cloud9:

Sadly (because I desperately want to go back) it was our once in a lifetime trip but, if I was you Karen, who seems to be able to go back to WDW quite regularly, I'd stick to the West Coast on this trip and enjoy all that it has to offer :thumbsup2

I'm so happy because now I know you can say Bugger on the Disboards. I've been trying to refrain myself on the US threads in case its taken wrongly. And we all know how difficult it is for an Australian to refrain from saying bugger!!

:cheer2::cheer2:

Hi, What happened to the ski option?
If you are going to WDW this Sep, then I would definitely go to DLR in Feb.
Go on , you can do it :thumbsup2

I'm not entirely sure what the problem is? Are you concerned that Disneyland will disappoint you because it's not like WDW? I've never been to either of them yet. HOWEVER, I'm doing both resorts at the end of the year (8 nights at WDW and 4 nights DLR) and I'm FAR MORE excited about Disneyland!!! It just seems cute, cosy and perhaps a little less industrial. Plus, it has such a magnificent history. The landscaping also looks much better.

I understand how you feel about comparing your favourite park with a new experience. I've only been to Disneyland Paris (several times) but our last trip was so magical. Walked on to everything and we were 2 of 6 people there first thing in the morning. I have photos of the entire park without a single person in the shot. We saw the sun rise on Dumbo....MAGIC! Do I think the Disney parks in the US will top that? No, we will never have that experience in the US parks. It's not possible. They'll be different and new memories. I am really keen to see different versions of the magic kingdom parks and I think that adds to the experience. Heck, I want to do Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea in the next couple of years!

If you are finding that you just want to return to a destination because it's familiar, I think you're missing out on a lot. A new experience whilst traveling is part of the fun. And if DLR isn't like WDW? Well, surely that's a positive!

pooh bum fart.....

ok, now thats over:rotfl:

I think i'm so nervous re DLR is that my DH is such a bad traveller/flyer and I'd hate for him to have a bad time and not want to travel again, also disappoint him with bad planning due to inexperience....but also I have so much drama in my life at the moment that I tend to stick to familiar as security...gosh...this is better than therapy:banana: and cheaper.:thumbsup2

the ski option was put on hold as the DH has to have knee treatment/surgery possibly in the next 6-12 months so skiing isnt exactly good for recovery:confused:and his knees are so painful now, I'm concerned he cant do the padi course this sept..he cant keep popping tablets like candy:scared1:

UST sounds awesome on a week day, we will be there superbowl weekend so that should be interesting as well. I'm just FREAKING re accom, but have been looking at HOJO's for an option the days we cant get GCV..any thoughts..$105 p night compared to $445 @ GCH:idea:

I dont want to drive in LA, or pay $20 + perday parking, so may do some mears/greys tours to UST and seaworld.....help me with info...

ok..freaking out now, need lie down and a bex

today was a bad day to give up equestrian water polo

Tomorrow when you're feeling more relaxed, write a pros and cons list. For each pro or con rate it out of 10. You end up with a number for each column for each potential trip option. Then for each column convert the total into a percentage. That way you've actually got some quantifiable numbers to look at and decide what options are best suited to you and your hubs. For example, the DL trip can be rated 'Satisfaction rating with this trip = __%; Dissatisfaction with this trip = __%'. Compare both holidays and that will assist you thinking through each option in more detail.

yeah..its hard to make decisions when in full on freak out mode..my motto is "anything for a quiet life" but I guess it aint working for me now....

maybe also cause I cant download unofficial Disneyland to help me "study up"...I need my information or I just sink...

So far my DLR planning hasn't made me the same obsessive planner that I've had to be for WDW. Don't need to bother so much about the recommended parks, ADR's, EMH avoidance etc. It's somewhat nice not having to plan your life 5 billion years in the future.
