My father in law passed away and I need some help!

After a 13 month long battle with cancer my father in law passed away on Saturday. We had gone on vacation, at his insistance, and since our return home he had declined quickly. We got him into a hospice house on Wednesday and that is where he passed.
We can't complain because when he was first diagnosed in July of '02 we had him on a respirator for 2 weeks. After making the heart-wrenching decision to remove the tube we were told we only had hours left. Well, he walked out of there and we got to have him for another year. God was gracious to us! Not only did we have the extra time to enjoy his being, but it also gave us time to prepare, which has made this somewhat easier. My son will be able to come home for a couple of days from the army, so it will be nice to have him with us during this time. He and his grandfather were very close.
His service is this weekend and that is where I need some help. My father in law just loved pink peonies. I would love to be able to put them on his grave after the burial. I have called many florists, but have had no luck. I am appealing to my fellow dissers to make some calls on my behalf if you would. I figure somewhere out there there must be some late bloomers. I think my best bets are in the cooler regions, Canada or even the U.K.
I will pay whatever price to have them. So if you wouldn't mind could some of you check. I would greatly appreciate it. If you find some, just let me know and I will then make the arrangements. I can't thank you enough.

On a side note, I would like to thank everyone for the wonderful goodies I got in the exchanges and I apologize to everyone who has gotten mine late.

Thank you all again so much!
Cathy

have you tried hobby shops. micheals or that kind of store for artificial peonies? A lot of the artifical ones look real. and it will give you what you need visually

Cathy~ I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

Thank you, but no...we can't do fake. Although, I don't necessarily have an aversion to them, we (my husband and I and the in-laws) owned a nursery/greenhouse business. It would be sacreligious to use "fake" LOL
Although, I may get some just in case!

Cathy,

My sympathy for your loss, but I'm glad your FIL is at peace.

I hope this helps. The problem is the things don't harvest until late September, early October. I also found a place that sells dried peonies. Would that help at all?

All my best,

Pat

Thank you for thoughts :D
Dried may be an option, I hadn't thought about that. Do you know where I could find those? I went to the link you provided and that was for the plants. Would you have the link for those? Thanks so much!

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

No suggestions for you, but I hope someone can come through with a batch of pink peonies!

I just got off the phone with DW Sue (a floral designer) who suggested that the florists that you are calling would be able to get pink peonies from any reputible floral wholesaler. You might try calling back and asking them to check with their wholesaler to see if they can order them for you.

If you don't have any luck, PM me and I'll have Sue check the wholesalers here in Cleveland.

No peonies for you but my heartfelt sympathy. My Mother was also diagnosed with cancer July '02 & she passed away this past July 02. (Strange, huh?) Anyway, they are both in a better place & someday we will see them again. I'm sure your FIL will also thank you someday for all the trouble you went through to find his favorite flowers.

http://www.vermontdriedpeonies.com/ (this was the one I originally found and it looks like a good option for dried).

I'm so sorry for your loss Cathy! I'm sending tons of prayers and PD your way so that your whole family will have peace of mind! I'll see if I can find out anything about the peonies & let you know!!
Take Care!!

Cathy..I dont have any flower info but I had to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family and I hope someone can hook you up with the flowers.

I'm also sorry for your loss Cathy. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. You might want to go over to the Flower and Garden board and post something too. They may be able to help you out. Those people over on the board are wonderful and very knowledgable. And Towncrier's wife Sue is also a great lady.

My favorite supplier is Gilbert H Wild in Missouri. My computer is misbehaving quite badly so I can't look it up for you but they have a website. You might try calling them. They are a big mail order company but I have talked to the owner and he is very nice. If he has any I am sure he will get them to you.

I am sorry for your loss.

I tried peonynursery.com but it said they don't start shipping until the end of August.

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences, Cathy, with you father-in-law's passing. And a bleesing for sure he was with you for another year. God bless.

What a great place the DIS is, so many jumping up to the plate to help. Always amazes me, Cathy, how really good people can be. Nice.

Hugs,

Dan :sunny:
