My mom and her husband have a home in Punta Gorda. My brother has a home in Port Charlotte. Of course we were unable to contact them. Luckily for my peace of mind I have another brother who lives 3-4 hours away on the East Coast of FL. He drove over to PG and found Mom and her hubby safe and sound (well...maybe not so sound!) in their house. All of their trees were uprooted. They lost a few roof tiles and the screen off of the screened in lanai. Some water seeped into the house during the worst of the storm, otherwise no water damage. The canal did not overflow. They all went to visit my brother in PC and he lost a few shingles, but otherwise no damage.

My sister in law called on her way back home to say that she tried to convince my mom to leave since there is no electric, plumbing or phone service. Hopefully, they will decide to leave until the utility services return.

All right! Watching CNN today, Punta Gorda looked like it suffered major damage. Hope your mom leaves, for it seems like a long time before power is restored to that area.

Wonderful news IMGONNABE40!!!! :bounce: :bounce: :D

I've been thinking of you and Tess and any others with loved ones around Punta Gorda since reading that thread this morning and hoping you'd all hear something and it'd be good news. . :) :)

Thanks for posting and I'm bery happy and relieved for you. . . :) :)

Thanks everyone. I am so fortunate to have a brother on the other coast who could go check on them. If I didn't, I know we would not have word yet. We had been planning to drive down, but decided against it when we heard they were okay and realized that our presence would be more of a strain on the situation re lack of plumbing. Also, we did not want to arrive to help with the clean up only to find they had left to stay elsewhere. We will stay put until we hear from them to say where they are and what help they need with the clean-up. The car is already loaded with 12 gallons of water, canned foods, disinfectant, mops, pails, etc. We can be on the road without too much packing at this point if need be.

Please keep all of the victims in your prayers. I don't yet know about the fatalities. My sister in law said the devastation was very depressing. I know a lot of people will suffer the effects of this for a long time.

Glad to hear they're o.k. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone else who has loved ones in the area.

Glad to hear your family is safe!

My grandfather is in an assisted living facility in Ft. Myers and thankfully everyone is safe there as well.

My heart goes out to those who have been affected by this horrible hurricane!

Sooooo happy for you and glad your family is safe! My brother in Cape Coral is w/out all utilities also, and sounds like similar damage....roof/water etc. I am hoping to be able to reach him tomorrow....
