Just returned from Orlando- got out thirty minutes before the hurricane rains hit this morning. Just wanted to share my experience with Thrifty.

I booked an economy using the AU02 code on the Thrifty website. On the website it shows a 4 door car, Hyundai or similar for the special rate. Well, when we arrived they told us that the rate was only good for a two door Geo Metro. Well, needless to say, a family of 4 can NOT fit into a Metro. It's the size of a Matchbox car!

We upgraded to a midsize for an extra $6 a day. It worked out fine but I really felt like the AU02 code deal is misleading for the economy car. The code is probably fine for the van rate since they can't substitute anything else for a van.

In the future, I'll rent a car at the airport. The shuttle service is fast but it makes more sense for us to get a car at the airport and get out of there quickly.

I was getting the feeling the economy might be too small. Now you post and say it is a 2 door metro. Yikes!

I go a good rate with Dollar for a compact for $40 more than the Thrifty economy. We have used Dollar the last 2 times so I went ahead and signed up for their fastlane membership to make things go more smoothly.

Thanks for posting. $6.00 a day for mid-sized sounds like that was still a pretty good deal.

Glad you made it back safely. We head down in 2 weeks. Watching the weather closely!

Thanks for posting...you helped me make up my mind!

I was holding two ressies and trying to decide which was the better deal. An econobox through Thrifty, who is offsite, or an intermediate through Budget, who is in the terminal.

For only $45 more I took the intermediate through Budget.

Thanks for sharing your experience and helping me decide which was really the better deal. I know I'll feel much safer in my intermediate!

have you checked eagle their rates seem to be good

I used the code for the minivan in December (week of Christmas). We would have liked to get one from a rental place onsite, but this rate was much better than any other we could find.

Hopefully it all goes well.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting about the code. Glad all worked out for you in the end.

Westjones, we have a minivan reserved for Christmas week also using that code. Also hoping that all goes well. As much as I would have liked to rent with an onsite place, the rate was hundreds of dollars cheaper with Thrifty. Way too good to pass up!!
