My experience with SWA COS seating

To the OP, I am a woman of size and I was worried about the possible issues but now know I will be ok. Thank you for posting and easing my worries.

The airline guarantees the two seats next to each other.

just curious here... do COS pre-board? 'cause if a COS had a C boarding pass and was unable to pre-board, there is no way to guarantee two seats next to one another unless they ask other passengers to move (and the others have the right to say no)

also, both my dh and i are pooh sized people and i've considered buying one COS seat... can we then "share" that extra seat? (although we've flown swa a dozen-plus times and have never needed a second seat as we don't flow over and can sit comfortably w/the armrest down... but just to have the extra space might be nice for a longer flight (i.e. NY to LV)...

also, can you buy your COS seat w/a ding fare?

A COS who has purchased a second seat is allowed to preboard with one other passenger. When you purchase the second seat you are allowed to buy it at the lowest fare available at the time you purchase that second seat. SO I would imagine a DING fare does indeed apply.

Yes, COS' with two seats walk right up to the preboard corral. If the gate agent contradicts this he runs the risk the problem mentioned and has to resolve it for the COS at the additional risk of taking a late.

No, a COS may not refuse to buy a second seat after being asked to on the grounds he wants to sit next to another COS who did buy two seats.

Yes you may buy your second seat with a ding fare.

I What if on the return trip a family of six wanted to buy seats and were denide because of your extra seat that you knew by then you didn't need but knew you were getting a refund for anyhow..
The airline has its overbook threshold set so this problem is minimized. The airline could fine tune this by allowing two COS' to share the same second seat but in the interest of faster boarding through fewer passenger uprootings they chose not to.
