Notice how Disney went from "never contact you again" to knocking on the door minutes after the local authorities arrived...

hmmmm...could it be that Disney security showed up because they saw a police car in front of her hotel room?

Goofy kissed my hand at Garden Grill once. Maybe I should sue for sexual harassment...

I agree with the OP!!! First, there is definately a BIG difference between an accidental 'brushing' or 'touching' contact, and what the OP is describing! I too initially thought about the bulky costume, etc...

Did any of you see that episode of CSI involving people who get dressed up as furry characters.........? Watching that episode made me think about the WDW and other full costume characters. There are some strange (to me) fetishes out there. Just adding a possibility, however slight it may be.

Perhaps the CM said something because he/she saw how uncomfortable the OP was, not because the character was doing anything wrong.

For those of you who said it was probably some girl in that costume anyway. So what if it was a girl. What rock are you living under? Some girls are attracted to girls and girls do commit crimes.
You question the OP going threw all this to make sure the guilty parties are found and taken care of. Obviously you have never been violated. How can you belittle someone for trying to make sure that someone else doesn't have to go threw the same thing.
As far as asking for money I haven't seen the OP say that they have hired a lawyer yet. Even if they do go after money for this so what. It seems large corporations only understand finacial loss to make them change their policies. These are people that are around our children. Disney should do everything to make sure there is nothing wrong going on. They should take meassures to make sure nothing bad can happen.
I so can't stand the head in the sand attitude that Disney can do no wrong and nothing bad ever happens there. Don't get me wrong I love Disney I even plan on moving right next door to it BUT IT'S NOT PERFECT. Nothing is.

Just out of curiosity does anyone here know if the people that portray the characters go threw any kind of back round check or can anyone off the street do these jobs?

They go through (not threw) background checks, personality profiles and a bunch of other "jumping through hoops" to be employed by Disney.
Think about this for a minute. There is a human being in a BULKY costume, with HEAVY gloves on, the vision is limited and you expect sane, moderately intelligent people to believe that this CM/character was copping a feel? Yeah, right, and Santa and the Easter Bunny exist too.
Now the OP is going to fly down to Disney to formalize Criminal Proceedings, twice. Ruin someone's life because she THOUGHT she was "inappropriately touched".
The OP is a travel agent for Pete's sake, hope she does not plan to do a lot of bookings with Disney. IMHO, this is about the most inane thing I have read in forever.

I can't believe the way some of you are flaming the OP... What is it that MANY DISers like to say when someone disagrees with them or posts something that upsets them? Oh yeah, I remember... Hit the back button!!!!

I don't believe that the OP asked for anyone's opinion on what happened, she is sharing her experience. Whether it was groping or accidental touching, we don't know the facts because we weren't there.

Incredible!!!!

When you share you, by default, open the doors to responses, postive and negative. Opinions, postive or negative.
Most have been negative because most people found this to be totally bogus, me included.

Ok I can't say what did or did not happen here, but I will tell that seeing out of a costume is not easy. My mom played Frosty many years ago and could only see people's feet. She was asked to fill in for another character (I can't remember which one only it was bear, Paddington maybe) that was usually played by a male. Well this female came up to her and started saying "sexy" things real quiet to her and asked about hooking up later and so on. Mom gave the signal to go back to the dressing room. She didn't know what to do other then get someone to find the girl and explain that the guy wasn't in the costume. Mom could only identify the females shoes and skirt so they walked around until they found her. The girl was very embarassed. At any rate this was an example of something similar just turned around.
As far as mean characters yes they do exist. I witnessed a character being mean to a child when we were there. The first child was rather rude and just plain mean but the child the character was mean to was the second one. (Personally if the first one had been my son we would have left the parks and he would have been grounded for life. ) Both were wearing similar shoes and shorts so I think the character thought it was the same kid:confused:
At any rate asking for something to be checked out is ok. I have a feeling that if an explanation, apology, and follow up would have been given would have been nice. I understand filing a report since satisfactory action was not taken. Since it was not me I can't say if I would fly back and forth or not. Probably not since I can't afford to. A letter of apology and action taken would be nice though. I would think Disney could do that but it most likely is against some policy somewhere. It could have been a case of mistaken identity. The character could have thought the OP was someone else. Doesn't make it right, but it is a possibility.

(The opinion expressed here belongs to me and does imply any else agrees with it;) )

I will tell you what happend to my 8 yr old DD 2 years ago.

We were eating breakfast at 1900 Park. My DD wanted White Rabbits autograph so she went up to him.

WITH ALOT OF FORCE SHE WAS PUSHED TO THE FLOOR BY THIS RABBIT.

I did not see it and thought that maybe my DD tripped or fell when she came crying over to me to tell me just what that mean rabbit did to her. Later I talked to a person who asked me how my DD was because she saw my DD being pushed by the Rabbit. I was so angry. 1st for not believing the Rabbit would push my DD then for thinking it was an accident. This woman told me she felt it was not an accident and that the Rabbit was being very forcefull. I wanted to CRY !!!

We did not do anything but I really wish I would have.

Sometimes I think that when who ever male or female are walking around in those outfits they think they have an excuse to be mean.

2 years later my DD will still tell the story of the mean white rabbit.

Mbaker1277 I believe you but may not of if this had not happend to my DD

Beth,
Years ago we were at an amusement park in VA. Our daughter was about 3 at the time. She was sitting on the bench with me when Scooby Doo came over to her and sat down. He got up and his arm got behind Brook's back and she was thrown to the ground. It did look intentional, UNTIL, I realized that the vision is limited and the costume is bulky and did not, in all reality, realize where his/her arm was. She had quite a lump on her head, she really hit the pavement hard, and was quite upset. Scooby Doo and the handler could not have been more concerned about her.

You were not there to see the unfortunate incident with your daughter and took the word of a stranger that it was on purpose.
Do you suppose this person did not realize that the rabbit's vision was not 20/20? Or, that this person was trying to make trouble? I find it totally amazing that any character would do anything deliberate to anyone in a crowded area.

I do not doubt that your daughter was knocked down, however, I do find it difficult to believe that it was intentional, regardless of what that woman may have said. What things are and what they appear to be are all too often totally different.

If an apology were issued it could be construed as admitting guilt, when there was probably none to begin with. I don't apologize for things I have not done, do you?

I only read a few response. I think the OP just wants to find a reason to fly back to Orlando! ;) You know it's hard to stay away from Mickey. Will you stil be staying on property? Just being nosy here!

So, what's gonna happen once you find out what punishment this Chip/Dale will get?

I saw this episode but didn't they like interacting with others that were also in a furry costume? Maybe Chip thought she looked like another chipmunk?

huh? With all the carrots those things eat you would think there wouldn't be a problem. Yet another lie my mom told me to get me to eat vegetables **sigh**

Thank you Gail for pointing out my spelling mistake. Do you do that with all posts or just ones you don't like/ agree with?

I guess you don't believe a priest would cop a feel either. I mean aren't they considered to have morals above a CM or does a man of Disney out rank a man of God?

Does anyone actually think the CM inside the suit could actually feel anything through that costume????

I have a great suggestion, stay away from costumed characters so they can grope the ones who want to be ::yes::

And where is the OP, no response to any of this???

I gotta check my pics, maybe I can sue too...

Nah, the OP said her view of WDW was tarnished and she wasn't going back again "for a long long time" ::yes::

The husband of one of my friends got drunk and tried to grab a feel off Minnie Mouse.:o Oopps, sorry, not related to the origional question.;)

but I think, being common sense would tell you that this person is in a bulky costume with limited vision, that even if it unsettled me, I would give it the benefit of the doubt and consider it an accident and go on with my day/trip. At least thats what I think I would do.

Ummm....She'll be back to Disney. ;) She just won't have anything to do with Chip or Dale anymore.

Maybe an aplogy from C/D and the CM would probably would have ended this whole ordeal. The word sorry and thank yous goes a long way! No one is prefect even Disney isnt' perfect, but what happened to customer service there?

I am also shocked that anyone would actually think that a character intentionally "groped" them. I am sure there are people with questionable morals working in all forms of employment - including Disney. I know that Disney does their best to screen people but I'm sure that not everyone there is "perfect." I do not think that Chip or Dale was intentionally trying to molest the OP. As stated by other posters, Chip & Dale are characters that like to have fun with the guests I would bet that they had no idea where their hand was placed. The Orlando police is obligated to follow up on this complaint but it is hard to believe that this would be a "top priority" case, in the city the size of Orlando there has to be more important cases to be investigated. This one certainly seems like a waste of time & taxpayers money! I will continue to go to WDW and enjoy the interactions with the characters and hope that they are still given the freedom to have fun with the guests.
