DW and I are giving my parents a trip to WDW for their 40th anniversary. We are going to give it to them tonight at our Christmas Eve party. I cant wait to see their faces when they see they are getting a weeks vacation at WDW.

We booked SSR for them. It is a great feeling to finally be able to do something this nice for my parents who have done so much for me in my life. I cant wait!!!!!

Very nice gesture on your part.

we stayed with my brothers when first travelling to America 30 years ago.
when we joined dvc we were able to return the favour and have them stay at our Home away from Home.

Isn't it great to be able to do something nice for your parents?

We gave our parents some nights at the VWL our first year of joining. And we also gave our daughter and new son-in-law a honeymoon at BCV. It wouldn't be possible without DVC.

WE love it!

Hi,

What a great gift!!!!! :) Be sure to tell us what they thought!

How neat!! You must be so excited! Please let us know how the surprise went.

What fun! Are you giving them the WHOLE trip, or just the accommodations? We gave our DS and his SO airfare, accommodations and tickets last year for Christmas. They we had to rearrange everything, because DS got enrolled in college, and couldn't go when we had planned. We ended up changing their flights and they shared a 2 bedroom unit with us last August. I KNOW your parents will LOVE the gift!

I am sure your parents will be as happy to receive your gift as you are giving it! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Hey Eric,

Great Gift, Got my mom this last Christmas, and it did feel really good to be able to pay her back for all the things she's done for me. She cried, i cried....Good times..
Happy Holiday

It was great! They were thrilled. We did not tell them that we bought into DVC because we wanted the whole thing to be a surprise.

So - my dad started asking me a lot of questions about DVC. I doubt they will buy since they are closing in on 70. He seemed to really want to learn about how it works. So - I gave my dad some of the material to read.

They took us to Fort Wilderness, it was our first big family trip and of course we loved it! They have been to Disney a few times themselves since us kids have moved out, and they love the magic!!!! It was great to be able to give them a trip now.

They were so thrilled with our gift, it was the greatest feeling in the world.

We planned on getting the airfare for them, but we wanted to make sure they were ok with the dates we booked. But, my mom said she has a bunch of frequent flyer miles, so they will use them for this trip.

So - we offered to pay any balance they may have if the flyer miles dont cover the full trip - but I am sure they will never let us know that :)

****Question****

If I call and ask to have a bottle of Champagne put in their room for their arrival - will the resort do that for us????

You did good!
I bet they will have an awesome time.
And Dad shouldn't think twice about buying into DVC at 70. We met a couple while in Disney who made the purchase for a 50th anniversary gift to each other. Go for it, life is too short. And if they will get enjoyment out of it, isn't that what it's all about!

I know there are ways to do this. Whenever I have a question like that, I call the resort directly and let them advise on how to do something. Last year, we had stuffed animals delivered to a room.

How about an even bigger surprise?
Can you arrange to get down there at the same time, for maybe a few days or so?
My parents are both 70ish and we've treated them to DVC trips twice. They enjoy traveling with us as much as we enjoy traveling with them! (We've done cruises together too.)
I bet it would mean the WORLD to them if you guys showed up for a few days!
If it doesn't work out now, you can rest assured that you have given them an extra special trip together, and then plan the next one for all of you!
Peace on Earth.

My kids told me I was tacky for giving both my sisters 5 nights in a studio at BWV as a Christmas gift. My sisters and I have the hardest time navigating logistics for Christmas each year because our husbands' families have their gatherings at different times. I am the only one that does not have to share my kids with an ex at Christmas, as well, so adding that to the holiday chaos just seems to work against us. I decided at Thanksgiving to do this, partly because I spent the holiday with only 1 sister, and partly because that sister had me helping her plan a vacation to WDW with her kids and her step-daughter(whose school schedule is different than ours here in NC). During the Thanksgiving weekend, I checked the school schedule of my sister's step-daughter against the school schedule of my other sister's son and my kids, and decided that our best bet of getting together would be next Dec., right before Christmas. My husband has to work right through Christmas Eve each year(we've accepted the fact that we will never be able to go on the 10-day cruise), but he had no objections to me taking my sisters' families to WDW with me next year(he looked almost relieved not to be able to go;) . I got a little creative with my photo-imaging software and printer, and made a nice invitation out of card-stock, explaining that the trip included a studio for 4-5 nights(depending on when they had to be home)and 1 adult 4-day hopper each. I also included a few park maps, and the price of 4-day hoppers for their husbands and kids. I also offered to pay for dinner 1 night, and asked that each person bring 1 ornament for a small tree I plan on bringing. My kids told me I was nuts, but after reading this thread I see I am not alone! My only concern was how to do the rooms. A GV at the Boardwalk is too expensive, so the next logical choice would be a 2-bedroom and a separate studio, but I am not sure how to decide who gets the studio half and who gets the 1-bed. half of the 2-bed. I feel someone will need to have a 1-bed. unit so we can gather one evening to exchange gifts; the studios are too small for that. My daughter suggested we get a 1-bed(request a dedicated) for my family, so I can set the tree up in the livingroom, and get 2 separate studios for my sisters. The point difference is 3 points per night for the 3 separate rooms as opposed to a 2-bed. and 1 studio, so I am leaning towards that scenario. I am just thrilled to find other folks who think this is a great gift!!!
