This vacation really begins with me coming down with a cough on Sunday morning after a night out with my best friend . Monday the fever begins to rise and I am feeling super lousy. It made packing loads of fun and I woke up Wednesday with no voice and a coughing toddler who was running a fever. I started to freak out. What should I do? Do we cancel the vacation that I had been planning for six months? Would I even be able to get our money back? I just didn’t know what to do. My instinct was to not go, I phoned my Dad he said we should go, and my Mom said we should stay home. Allan and I decided to go with the Doctor's opinion. At noon on Thursday we head to the dr's office. She, of course says we should stay home and prevent the spread of germs. Now please don't get me wrong, normally I would completely agree but I wasn't all that keen on the idea of missing out on my dream vacation that I may or may not be able to reschedule. After all it was just a common cold not the dreaded H1N1 flu or even a regular flu. As it turned out Nicky was recovered almost completely before we had to take off. I however continued to feel like death. I decided to resort to better living through better chemistry and medicated myself for coughs and colds and fevers and headed to the airport. We went to the airport extra early because I didn't want the kids to fall asleep until we were through security so I wouldn't have to wake them. This plan backfired as they didn't fall asleep until we got on the plane... after midnight!:scared1: We caught our plane, which left right on schedule at 12:29 am October 30. The boy’s fell asleep almost immediately as did Allan holding the Bish. I watched Night at the museum II and forgot something very important to happy air travel, Gravol. As luck would have it just as my movie ended we hit some nasty turbulence and the nausea nearly overwhelmed me, fortunately the flight attendants on westjet were able to provide me with a nice cold cloth which I placed across the back of my neck and popped a gravol. I spent the rest of flight, about an hour, with my head pressed against the back of the seat n front of me fervently praying that I wasn't going to throw up, which wouldn't exactly be a first but is not something I have any desire to repeat. We land successfully in Toronto, exhausted and hungry we go to retrieve our bags for our first trip through the border patrol. I spent my time trying desperately not to cough for fear that we would be quarantined or not allowed to continue on our flight. My fears were unfounded, the border was no problem we went through and had some breakfast. One major difference in Canadian airport security and American airport security is that in Canadian airports the security screeners are not permitted to ask you to remove your shoes without cause and the Americans require that you do, which I personally find kind of gross. Airports just aren't that clean. Anyhow I digress. Through security we decide to find some breakfast, we spent a small fortune on some inedible food wrapped in plastic from the only place on the American side of customs. The flight to Orlando was a lot smoother than the one to Toronto. We landed on time at about 1:30 local time. i'm going to try and figure out how to do pictures for the next entry into this trip report. I hope. Coming up next... The big birthday surprise, our hotel room, room requests, grocery disaster and more.
