My dog isn't perfect, how about yours?

I have 2 Beagles.

Strong Willed was a phrase that was created for the hound dog!

Our female is a pain, but very loving. She is a snuggle. However, she eats poop, barks at everything, digs up and eats lawn grubs, still uses puppy pads (at age 7), and has an attitude problem. She would be a perfect only dog. She has snapped at our male dog, and they have gotten into more than one fight (Vet visit necessary) over food. Oh, and her breath is wicked bad too (read : eats poop).

Our male dog is wonderful! He is my dog version of a soul mate. However, he is a food addict and will do his best to get food from you. We cannot take him for walks because he pulls and is so strong, no harness we have tried (that he has allowed) has worked.

Both are overweight (they ARE hounds!!), but I wouldn't trade them for any other dog out there! I love them both.

:lovestruc

If only I could have 1 perfect dog in my pug herd...Together, they are a loud, snoring, farting pug pile. But they all have quirks..

Zelda - I saw someone mention DH's mistriss..yeah thats Zelda...she loves to sit at DH's feet and give me looks of HA, I am here, and your not. She is also spiteful and is known to pee and poop in her cage because she isnt happy about something. She is also a cat poop eater..:headache:

Austin - Poor Austin...he is...special. We have names for him that arent very DIS friendly, but we think he was the result of inbreeding. His tongue sticks out 75% of the time, and he gets all flinchy when you try and pet him..but he is a loyal good dog.

Wario - Our big doofy pug. He was graced with really long spindly legs and he runs like a greyhound. He is a bully though. He tends to be the dog who chases they neighborhood kids and dogs down, and has a tendency to ignore me.

Miracle - She is the special princess, with a mean streak. Wario is her enforcer, she barks, he runs at whatever it is. She has a way of giving you the saddest, most pathetic eyes to get her way, and it usually works great.

Draco - He is our lazy one. Draco is content sleeping 27hrs a day...LOL..he eats, poops and sleeps. Thats about it. He also has a gift for the drama. He mopes when he doesnt get to sleep in his favorite spot, and mopes when DH does not give him morsels of food. But he is a good dog, a bit on the chunky/lazy side though..

My herd is a crazy one. They sound like a pack of pit bulls when together, but they are loyal and loving.

This thread is making me soooo miss my dogs who are now long gone. I thought I could replace them with an "easier to care for, can stay home by themselves for a weekend, so much smaller and thus cheaper to feed" feline:rotfl:

While I am still slowly warming up to my cat who we've now had for one year since he was 8 weeks old, you just can't compare a cat to a dog and I don't think I'll ever feel the same way about him as I did my dog, especially my Gypsy.

Gypsy was a AKC golden retriever that I picked out of the litter within an hour of birth and spent many hours each day with until she was ready to come home with me (my mother was the breeder). I spent 15 great years with my best friend. Was she perfect? No, but she was perfect for me. The worst thing she ever did was always jumped out of the back of the pickup truck if she saw a body of water to go swimming. I would dread driving by a pond or river because I just knew it would be 30 minutes before we would get where we were headed:laughing: We have a private pond front and she spent many days there in the summer swimming with all the neighborhood kids. She was also extremely frightened by thunder storms and it meant being up all night with her. And...she chased cars, oh how I hated that. Other than those few things, I don't remember any other things I just didn't love about her:cloud9:

I did have a black lab who was a handful every day and an australian shepherd that was so untrainable that I had to sell her after six months of trying to get her to see things my way ~ she went to a good home with another aussie who needed companionship so it was all good:)

I know where you're going with this... but I can only join in with one of my dogs. The brown spot eye one, down there below - Hazel.

Charley *IS* reallly reallllllly realllllllllly good. He really is. He truly is a human in a fur suit, who walks on all 4's. But who's perfect? :rolleyes1

And Hazel is.... a dog. She has gas, almost daily that not only stinks, it makes sounds. I guess we should be grateful for the warning. :scared:

She's naughty. She bites things up. She talks back. You tell her no, you get this strange howly-bark thing back. And don't point at her. It makes her mad - she'll bark at you then. She licks, toooo much. I don't mind a gentle "kiss" lick. I don't need a dog saliva bath.... thanks. I think she might even answer to naughty. I'll get back you on that.

She drains me. Exhausts me. She's "a dog".

Let's put it this way..... I NEVER would have got Hazel, had Charley been like her. EVER! For some ridiculous reason, I thought I'd have two like him. My g/f warned me long before Hazel was even an idea - "You know, you're gonna be in for a rude awakening when you het another dog......." I laughed her off...hahahaha! Silly friend! ALL my dogs will be as amazing as Charley - The Golden Dog.

I've never even met Charley and I love him!

I have two less than perfects.

The first is a corgi-a-saurus. Obviously something else in his lineage. Is a pembroke, but is a lean mean fighting machine and is grossly oversized at 36 lbs. He should be about 2/3 the size he is and weigh in about 24 lbs. Smart as anything, and often uses the powers for evil. Wonderful dog, just has plans.

The second is a sweet, hopeful, kind 145lb Irish Wolfhound with a brain the size of a walnut. He relies on the corgi at all times to lead him through the trials and tribulations of life. Sadly and luckily his life span will be so short, they average around 7-8 years of age (my first made it to 10 however), he will never have to live without his little side kick.

Both are well behaved and good citizens. I would NEVER trust the corgi in some social situations however. The Wolfhound would never ever ever hurt anyone.

I have an over weight Corgi as well. She weighs about 28 pounds but looks like a little barrel. I get fussed at every time I take her to the vet for anything. I also have a Basset Hound. I guess something about those short legs. The Corgi seems very smart, but the poor Basset isn't exactly known for his brain power. The corgi loves to "herd" the Basset. She also does me & the kids. She is very loving & gives lots of kisses, but she has a fit barking every time anyother animal gets attention. DH would love a Irish Wolfhound. They are his favorite breed. I actually love most breeds of dogs

My Male Dobie just earned 2 AKC Obedience Titles; his CDX and Rally Excellent Titles with 6 placements and my little girl Dobie earned her CD Title with 2 placements! So yeah,I'm thinkin' my dawgs are pretty smart and very obedient!! That's perfect to me! :)

Mine is cuddling up with me right now as I type. I think we need to partially fence in our yard to make sure he can't get out.

We have a full-bred Corgi, and he's good sometimes! LOL He's very smart, loves to fetch, and plays soccer like a champ. But he also answers commands only sometimes, he sheds like crazy, barks at everything, and he eats his own poop in the winter. He doesn't do it in the summer....he likes them frozen. :scared:

I forgot...he's also fat! LOL

My corgi doesn't eat poop, but I'm seen my Basset do it. My corgi barks a lot too. She is very loving though, loves to ride in the car, and is bad to beg for food. She loves to steal the cat's food too. I guess that why she looks like a barrel. My Basset actually doesn't bark too much. He will sometimes beg too, but he's not as bad as the Corgi. He actually is the only animal out of 2 dogs & 2 cats that the vet doesn't fuss about his weight. He weighs 57 pounds & has for 2 years. He's 4 now. He does like to run in the backyard, but only for a few minutes at a time then he flops down. Both of ours are sweet, but not always that well behaved. They're a little spoiled. When the Corgi wants attention, she comes up & licks our legs or feet. The Basset loves to come over to us when we're sitting down, put his feet on our legs, & lay his head on our shoulders. It's really hard to ignore those little things. Mine definitely aren't perfect, but neither are my kids & We love them all

Our dog is great, but yeah, not perfect. He's big.. really big. Mix between a rotti and ae Swiss Mountain dog, more swissie in personality than rottie. And he sheds.... A LOT. Now you know that mental image you have of a lot of shedding? Triple it! Now.. got that? Double that!! We vacuum in the morning and sweep at night. Not his fault, I know, but the fur is everywhere, on everything . My couches are always covered!

He also barks... at everything! Strangers, ducks, knocks on doors, doorbell and knocking sounds from the tv but he's really friendly. Doesn't bite at all. Plays well with other dogs. But the barking ... geesh. Can't let him out on his own in the morning cause Im afraid he'll wake the neighbors! Its a LOUD bark.

He also loves food and furniture.. Never while we are around. But when we are gone? He ate 3 pounds of truffles one Christmas that I had as gifts. Had to put a baby lock on the garbage bin cabinets and can't leave anything on the counters that resembles the smell of food! Got a hold of the little tray that collects the fat drips on the George Foreman last night. EW.. Never upsets his stomach. Now, give him rawhide and he will be sick for days! Go figure! Loves to sleep on the new couch!

He's a big sweet oaf. Always under foot and we love him!

I've had numerous dogs in my lifetime...only one was anywhere near "perfect". His ( a dalmatian) only fault was that when he was a teen, he chewed a foot wide circle of linoleum...down to the wood. My current three are no where near him but I love them just as much.

Two adult female mixed rescue sisters: Jazzy and ChaCha. Jazzy (55 lbs of muscle) is a wiry-haired black and grey merle hyper-herder, who jumps like a kangaroo and runs like a greyhound. She's friendly to all humans (loves the UPS driver) but hates thunderstorms. Only one word to describe ChaCha and that is ~* DIVA*~. A 57 lb fluffy, buff colored princess who doesn't care for other dogs and lays with her front paws crossed. She rarely ever moves faster than a trot but loves to sit in front of you and rest her head in your lap. Children are her favorite (she doesn't like the UPS driver).

The third is a new addition. My 14 year old Rat Terrier Grasshopper passed in late May and in early July I acquired a male West Highland White Terrier. Ryley (6 months old and 11 pounds) is fairly calm inside the house, but is a demon outside. He plays hard and he has no problem rolling Jazzy. His favorite chew toy is flip flops. He thinks feet are the best invention ever, especially if they are covered in socks. (Don't tell anyone but he's also a sweetheart: he's a cuddle bug when he's tired and he'll stand on his hind legs when he wants you to carry him.)

We have 2. THe mutt, and the poodle.

THe poodle (Gizmo) is my dog. He barks as soon as i walk in the door, and wont stop until i acknowlodge him. He is a licker. He loves to sun bathe, and chase frogs. Sometimes he cant hold it all day. And he is a very picky eater. He loves table scraps, if it is meat--no bread, no veggies:goodvibes He sleeps with us, in a king size bed, and takes up 1/2. He also passes gas..Stinks up the whole house.. He also loves to "sing" in the car, along with the music...He howls the whole time..Sometimes i wonder how he doesnt loose his voice

Lucy the 2 yr old mutt --1/2 jack russel, 1/2 spaniel is just that...we call her the pure mutt. She is my dh's dog 100%. She is very loving, but always wants to be by dh. When she goes outside, she could just about keep up with a cheetah. SHe is so fast, but she also hops alot...So far she has tripped up dh, and he broke his arm...and at my parents new house, she was running and hopping so fast, she didnt realize there was a swimming pool there, so she took a quick swim...:rotfl: I also cant tell you how many new pair of undies i have bought, b/c if we accidently leave them on the floor--they will be "holy drawers" ;)
She looks up to gizmo, and if he does something, she has to do the same thing. He on the other hand doesnt like his sister to much. Lucy doesnt sing, she likes to watch tv...It is a blast watching a tennis match....Her head goes back and fourth...

So yes, they are perfect...For us anyways:)

I have 2 less than perfect dogs. One I wouldn't trade for a million dollars, not that anyone even tried. The other I would never get someone to think to take her.

The older one is an Australian terrier, Very bossy and barky. Dumb as a box of rocks, definetely not breed standard.:rotfl2:

The younger one is an Australian shepherd and other than knocking the pillows off the couch and attacking poor defenseless plastic bags he is golden.

We've got a golden who is pretty well behaved. She does nothing but sleep all day. She's doesn't bark much at all. She doesn't chew up anything but she does like to carry off one shoe so when you want to check the mail or something you can't find your other shoe- very annoying!

She'd lick you to death before she'd ever bite you and she's deathly afraid of thunder and extreme wind. She tries to climb all over us wimpering like crazy. We keep a very loud fan in our room so when there is a thunderstorm we can turn that puppy on and hopefully it will drown out the noise so we can all sleep.

I have a Westie/Jack Russell mix - I love her to death - but she is so bad at times. She is barks at all of the dogs except for the next door one. She loves people, love to give them kisses they just have to keep there feet back because she pees as she is kissing them. I adore her and would not tradeher for anything.

Due to very bad allergies, I have no dogs, but I have to tell you about my sister's dog, my favorite nephew, Buddy.

Buddy is possibly the stupidest golden retriever even born, he pees like a girl, and is agoraphobic... yes, that's right, agoraphobic, afraid of leaving home. He does not go any further from the house than the end of the driveway to pee. He will not go into the backyard unless dragged there, then he sits and stares at you until you bring him back inside. If forced to walk beyond the driveway, he pulls at his leash until you bring him back home. He is afraid of birds, cats, wind, rain, thunder, the vacuum cleaner, the broom, bugs, grass, dust balls falling off the Swiffer, suitcases, bandannas and his dad (my brother in law).
When someone comes to the door, he does not go to the door, but instead stands at the top of the stairs and looks into the mirror reflecting the foyer to see who is there. If he decides it is a friend, he will walk down the stairs and lay belly up for a rub. If an unknown person, he goes back to the hallway rug to lie down.
He will not eat if no one is in the same room with him, and will answer to any name you call him if the proper sing-song voice is used. He sleeps all day and roams the house all night looking for a belly rub or cuddle.
He's a big fluffy ball of stupid dog, but we all love him.:love:

I have 2 rescue dogs, and neither of them is perfect.

Dog #1 is a yellow lab named Emma. The rescue people found her tied up outside with a bunch of tar in her fur. She had little bald spots when we got her, as they couldn't wash all the tar out, some had to be cut out. I have no idea what else the people who had her before did to her. I know that she is afraid to go down into basements. She is not afraid of stairs, as she will go upstairs in a house. Just not down into a basement. She also kind of slinks to her food dish, and is afraid of any loud noise.

She also loves to go for car rides, during which she sheds and drools all over my car. She is a huge bed hog, and will scratch the blankets down until she reaches the sheets to sleep on. I love her to pieces!

Dog #2 is a coonhound named Murphy. My neighbors divorced, and I got their dog. He was also a rescue. He was malnurished, and as a result runs kind of crooked. When we got him he didn't wag his tail, or give kisses, or even know how to play with a plushie. Now he is like a new dog! He runs and throws his toys into the air, and bats at them. His tail wags a lot, however he is still pretty stingey with his kisses. He also has horrible nightmares almost every night. This dog NEVER growls when he is awake, but he does when he is asleep. He is also horribly afraid of thunderstorms. If it storms during the night he will jump up on my bed, shaking and drooling all over the place. He also loves to dig holes in the yard to sit down in. I love him to pieces too!

I have a doxie who absolutly adores DS and I. She always has to be touching one of us or our other dog because I swear she has anxiety issues if she can't. We got her as a puppy as a Christmas gift to DS 3 years ago. She has some very annoying habits that we can not break her of. You would swear someone beat her, but she has never been hit, because if anyone except DS leans over to pet her she loses her bladder wherever she is. The only time she doesn't pee with me leaning over is if I am leaning over to feed her or put her on her leash. We learned to never, ever lean over and pet her to avoid the mess. As soon as I sit down she is on my lap licking me to death though.

If DS or I hold her when someone comes near us she squeals and thrashes around like she is in major pain so no strangers can pet her till she comes to them. If someone comes in the house she stays away till they are there for a while. The other day for the first time ever she actually jumped up in our friends lap and as soon as he pet her she got so anxious she peed all over him. UGH!!! What do you do with that. Also no matter how many times I ask people not to bend over and pet her or she will pee every single person does it anyway and then I have a mess to clean up. When ouside that is ok but not in the house.

I love her more than anything but can't wait till DS moves out and takes her with him so I can go visit her and let him clean up her messes. lol

I forgot to add that at random when I am sitting down she runs up and runs as fast as she can right into my legs she jumps up and hits my legs with her head so hard she will literally knocks herself backwards

My Delilah is a boxer-mastiff mutt who's about 4 years old. We're not sure exactly how old she is, since she was a rescue. She has some anxiety issues due to abuse by her former owners, so she digs in the trash and steals things from the table when she's home alone. She also begs whenever she sees someone with food, whether they're at the table, on the couch, or just walking through the house with it. She climbs on the couch and on our beds if the bedroom doors are open, because they smell like us. She does NOT like being left alone at all. If she hears me in my room and no one else is home, she'll come and headbutt the door until I let her in. My parents and I have opposite schedules (they work days, I work nights), so someone's almost always home with her. We didn't plan it that way, it just worked out like that. Sometimes she makes a mess, but it's usually in the basement, which is good because that floor's concrete and easy to clean.

She also has a pretty severe problem with her right hind hip. We had it checked out when we first got her two years ago and I don't remember what the vet said, but he said there's no real way to fix it. My parents and I don't have the money to spend $150 a month on the steroids and other medications that she'd need for her hip, so we've been giving her baby aspirin (wrapped in cheese because she loves cheese) and it seems like it's helping. She's spoiled rotten, but she still has a lot of fear and anxiety issues from her old owners.

Our neighbors have told us that if they didn't know her, they'd be afraid of her, because she's a big dog that looks like she could be vicious, but she's not. She's the sweetest, calmest dog we've ever had. She's very docile and usually only barks if someone's getting her riled up to play or she wants to go outside if she's in or inside if she's out. She sometimes barks when the doorbell rings, but that's not often. She also has no problem with meeting new people at home anymore. Out on the street's another story.
