I am in tears as I write this: My 10 month old GS chewed threw our privacy fence and went to the neighbor's yard, which had sectons missing from a dog that used to live there.

I got home a little bit, only 1 dog is in the yard, my older GS. So I went to the apartments behind us and someone saw a GS that looked like mine around noon and said he was following someone and they were going to call animal control , so I have to wait until the mornig to see if someone has picked him up. he has a chip but no collar-the one for xmas was too small.

so ifyou will, please give out some positive thoughts for my pup. Last year i had to put down my 10 year old rot hus down due to cancer and i can't think of losing another dog within a year.

Oh no! :(

I hope you find him soon.

My two dogs got loose earlier this year from our fenced-in backyard (the gate was open - someone must have opened it - and DD didn't notice when she let them out). I got a terrible tearful call from home and left work immediately. DH made it home first and he took DD and drove around the neighborhood, calling for them. They actually found them in less than 30 minutes; they hadn't strayed too far from home.

 I know you must be worried sick. Think positive - odds are good that you'll be reunited (especially since he's chipped).

I am so sorry...I will keep you in my thoughts tonight.

Just said a prayer for your pups quick and safe return. Hang in there and keep us posted.

thanks everyone. i can't go by the spca-where the pets are impounded until 11 tomorrow morning their hours.

prayers for the quick return of your puppy!! please keep us updated.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. It might be worth a (non emergency) call to the police. When I've found dogs I've left messages there and have been reunited w/ owners several times that way. Did he have a collar w/ tags on? Is he microchipped?

Good luck in finding your pup.

10 cents worth of useless advice after the fact - you probably shouldn't leave him in the yard unsupervised, especially with no identifying collar on him.

Oops I see in your OP he has a chip but no collar. At least you can prove he's yours.

Prayers said that you will find your pooch.

I agree with the previous poster who suggested microchipping!

Kiani used to love to play the "catch me if you can" game. She was always great at running out the door the instant we got home, so we constantly kept the leash on her, so we could step on it as soon as she walked out the door. She would usually do a little "yay mommy's home" happy dance before darting off for the grass.

One time she just darted to the grass, then headed down the back alley behind our apartment. I followed her almost down to the next road (like 3 blocks). even passed another guy walking his dog, but as soon as I got close, she'd run. My trick was to just sit down with my back to her, then she'd wondered what was going on with me and come back. It didn't work, she made it down to the end and turned the corner. I went back to get the truck and tried to find her, but nothing. The couple times before, she'd be on the doorstep by morning filthy. She wasn't there that time. I got posters printed and posted by the second day.
She did manage to make it back to the complex, and a neighbor on the other end of our building found her. But they didn't know she lived in that building, and took her in. Once they found the posters and said her name, she instantly perked up. So they knew it was her. They even said that she tried running away on them too, but as wonderful and as well behaved as she was, they knew she couldn't have been a stray.
It really was a miserable 3 nights till I got her back. I was so mad at her for running off, but I was so glad to see her again.

Dogs are smarter than we sometimes give them credit for. Hopefully yours will come back home after having a little mischievious fun.

gee thanks. um, he and my other gs have a large back yard with a 6 foot private fence. he has never tried to eat the fence before. and once again, he has a chip. his collar i got him for xmas was too small. it is not like i just got a 8 week old puppy and threw him out there. if he is found, he is getting a new dog fence with a collar that will let him know not to go near it.

Something interesting I was reading about recently is that dogs of today - many of whom spend most of their time in their yards - really need to get out around their neighborhoods so they learn how to get home if they get lost. Sights, scents, sounds, etc, can guide them home, but only if they're familiar with them.

I was being sincere, believe it or not. I will refrain from responding in the manner you responded to me, and continue to wish that you find your pup.

he can could back if he left from the front of the house, but he was in the back , went thrugh the neighbor's fence, which had parts missing from a previous dog, and to the apartments-allegedly-that are behind us, and i dont go there because there wasn't a reason to.

it's silly, he wanted to go for a ride last night, he followed dd11 into the garage and dd had to go into car for bag,he followed and got in it. and itold her to get him out becaue i didn't want to take him. i got off work late and i was tired. this mornig i played with him and my other gs in the back yard before i went to work. i feel like a crappy dog mom now

 Don't feel that way. You are obviously a wonderful dog mom - your sincere worry for your boy shows that. This kind of thing can happen. Don't give up hope!
