One of my 4 beagles, Freddie is terminally ill. She's 13, and we've known since last Aug. that she has congestive heart failure, but we thought she was doing pretty well on the meds. Well, she has really been deteriorating as of late, so my DH took her to the veterinary cardiologist yesterday to see if there was anything further we could do. He did an ultrasound and said her valves are failing. He said she could die at any time, but the most he'd expect her to last is 1-2 months. I'm so sad. :( I know she's old, but we've had her since she was 7 weeks old. She's my baby, and I'm not ready to lose her. The doctor gave her some more meds to make her comfortable, but they won't prolong her life. So, we watch, we wait, and we try to treasure the time we have left. This has been such a crappy month. I started it by going into the hospital on New Year's Day with acute appendicitis and having my appendix out the next day. Now, this. :( I hope it's not an indication of how my year is going to go.

So sorry about your doggy, WilmaBud. I know how much you love your baby.

I am soo sorry the loss of a pet is hard especially ones that you have had forever ! take care and love her lots in her last days . I am sure she had the best life and you will always miss her. Michelle

I'm so sorry that this year has started out so badly. You are obviously a very compassionate person to have taken such good care of this dog for so long. Treasure these last days, she'll always remember that you were her kind mama.

I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Freddie. I'm sure you've given each other so much love in the years he's been with you, and I bet he couldn't have asked for a better Mom.

I, too, am very sorry about your dog.

I'm so sorry. I know what it's like in the final stages of a dog's life. Just keep him comfortable and let him know that you love him. I'll never forget when our Weimaraner was near the end, I'd dread going downstairs in the morning because I knew he'd be worse than the day before. I cried every day until he was gone, and then for many days after.

Sorry about your doggie:( . I know it must be hard, after all, they are a part of the family. Hope he (and you) have peaceful days ahead.

So sorry to hear about your dog. They are a part of the family and it is so hard to lose them. Enjoy the time you have left and remember all the time you shared together. I hope your year improves.

Oh! I am so sorry to hear about your litttle baby!

You and your Freddie are in my thoughts and prayers!

Lots of hugs and pixie dust to you and Freddie.
I can't even imagine how hard this is for you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about your dog. It's very hard we went through it 6 years ago with are golden retriever. Hugs to you and your family.

So sorry, Heather, to hear about your Freddie. :( They do become so much a part of our families. Parting is so tough.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. We went through the same thing with our cat last summer. She was 15 1/2 and diagnosed with kidney failure. The vet said she probably had little time left, maybe a month. She suggested we take her home and enjoy the time left. It was about a month. She had 3 good weeks and then the last week went downhill. But we were glad we had those last weeks with her.
