My dog has malignant melanoma

My 10 year old dog Buca was diagnosed with malignant melanoma on his back toe. The vet is going to remove his toe on Monday, I was just wondering if anyone;s dog has gone throught this and what was the out come? I feel so bad. Thank you and keep Buca in your prayers

Many years ago, my hairstylist's Chesapeake Bay Retriever had skin cancer (I think it was on the stomach but it was melanoma). As far as I recall, the dog ended up living a normal lifespan so obviously it had not metastisized.

Our black lab had a malignant melanoma removed from his foot. They said they thought they got it all and he would be okay, and they must have been right because he lived for several more years and died at the ripe age of 16.

I'll keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. It can be really traumatic and upsetting to hear the "C" word about any member or your family.

As a registered vet tech I can assure you that I've seen lots of these nasty little things pop up (usually on toes for whatever reason!) and we can often remove them without any lasting ill effects. As long as your DVM gets good margins all around the tumour, the outcome tends to be very favourable!

Well, by the time you get this msg, you should have some news about your precious angel; how did it go?? Keep me posted!

I just wanted to thank everyone for there kind thoughts. We got back from the vets today and they said that they got all the cancer! It was more just in the nail bed, so we are very excited! Thanks again to everyone
