Here we go again!

I was going through our hurricane kit because there are canned goods and things that are now 2 years old.....

Noticed my dog nearby, licking his nose a lot. Sure enough, he had found a battery and had chewed it enough that black stuff was spewing all over my carpet, and he's licking his nose frantically!!!!!!!!!!

I fed him some milk and some vegetable oil. We just hecked out his tongue and mouth, and there are no visible burns. We're watching him closely while we decide whether or not he needs to go to the vet!

Just when you think your dog has eaten everything..... :guilty:

Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!!! He's going to get a charge out of that when it comes back out

You might want to call the vet or the local emergency vet to see if there is anything else you should do.

DH called Poison Control who said if he's not drooling, or acting as if he's in pain, and there are no visible burns in his mouth he'll be okay.

I then called the national battery ingestion hotline (Can you believe one exists????) and the woman there was more informative. She said burns are usually immediate and visible, and if a half-hour has passed, (it has) and he's acting okay, and not having trouble swallowing, then everything will be okay.

I'm calmer now. I TOTALLY lost it a while ago. This dog will eat ANYTHING!!!

Glad to hear you made a couple of calls and that he's going to be okay.

We had a dog like that once. He ate a large cactus and washed it down with a bottle of hot sauce one day when we were at work.

Glad to hear your dog is okay. We had a shepherd once, that bit into a bic lighter. We heard a poof and saw him dropping it. Thank goodness he was okay.

My Rottie drank liquid chlorine........that was a scary afternoon....try to get a large dog to open their burning mouth so you can rinse it....not fun.....

:lmao: Boy does this bring back memories.... Years ago our lab ate the bedroom TV remote control (the same dog who ate wall board, masonite siding, carpet, you get the picture) We came home to find him laying on the bed with the TV blaring (the crunching must have turned it on) and the remote in pieces around him.... looked like he'd had a little trouble turning the TV on to watch ;) . We couldn't find the batteries from it, called the vet and they had us bring him in for stomach x-rays. They were concerned that stomach acids would eat away at the outer covering of the battery and end up causing the "battery acids" to get into his system. The vet still laughs about this episode - Pluto was well known at their practice
Hope things turn out OK!

What was his name? IronGut?

LOL Everyone! Funny stories! Glad my dog isn't the only dumb dog out there!

The latest?? Tonight he ate an entire tennis ball..... By the time I realized it, all that was left was a small piece of the outer rubber that I wrenched from his mouth!

He has also licked the paint off the wall, eaten his bed, eaten holes into his blanket, his plastic food dish, several stuffed toys, underwear, socks, cat toys, cat litter, part of the door, the leg of a desk chair, my laptop chager's wire, and an earring (I found it in the yard while cleaning up after him). He ate the loop part off his leash, SEVERAL OLD Navy left flip flops, and chewed the wires off one of the window alarm sensors!
:dog:
We love him though! :)

I know this probably wasn't funny at the time, but I am sitting here with tears rolling down my face because I'm laughing so hard. So what was his name?

Our dog ate a road flare while she was in the back of the van. Ate the darn thing right down to the spike at the end and had enough sense to leave that.

Thanks for a good laugh everyone! Since I am under the impression all of the above dogs were okay in the long run, I am having a good laugh at all they get into! Thanks!

Yeah, it's funny now, after the fact, isn't it???

Evil Genius- FUNNY!!!!!! That has to top them all!

Sorry I lost this thread. His name was ****oo. Don't ask.

Why the DIS is blocking his name I'm not quite sure. Anyway he had the same name as Yogi Bear's best friend.

my dog (choc. lab) ate a battery when she was a puppy. On July 4th actually, so the emergency vet visit was fun in itself. She swallowed it whole. The vets said surgery was usually an option but b/c of where it was, waiting it out might be better. We did, she passed it. And now 5years later she is still stealing stuff. :)

We do have her X-Ray with that little battery in her. I still think we should hang it on the wall

I figure this is a great place to pass this along...all of you that have dogs, or once had dogs need to read a book titled MARLEY AND ME by John Grogan.

Its a GREAT story....true story by the way.

Have you thought of offering him dog food? :rotfl: I guess I should be thankful that our dog just chews on her dog bed and both of our dogs will chew up pencils that are left on the floor.

It's not funny!!!! It's never funny when a dog almost dies!!!!! You should care more about him ! You obviously don't, seeing how you act! How would your dog think of you laughing at him?
