My Disney store closed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe they are just trying to get out of Mall locations mainly. Which sadly is happening with a lot of companies because Mall locations cost so much. I believe they want to start opening in Strip Mall locations and stuff like that because they get more freedom and it cost less.

Seriously I am hoping this is not the one in Chattanooga.....I could cry!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it is. I live in Cleveland and was at the mall yesterday and it's gone. Hi, neighbor!!

Personally, it was no big loss to me. Not having any kids, I hated when the Disney Store was taken over by The Children's Place. I never had a reason to go in there anymore because they had no adult merchandise. Once they finally did get a few adult things they were junk. I worked at TDS when it was run by Disney and the merchandise was awesome. Not the case anymore.

Just as a side note, this really makes me want to see if I can put together a Chattanooga (and surrounding areas) DIS meet! :)

Well here is one more that closed. Owings Mills Mall Disney store is closed (MD). I got some nice gifts there just before Christmas. Went back for Easter things last week and no more store!. The mall had even removed and retiled the store logo tile from floor in front of the store.

The economy has impacted them. Take a look at your own local malls. I bet you'll find a few empty stores (not Disney) in them.

We should start a thread that lists what stores are having closing sales so at least if they are closing we can take advantage of the sales.

the Manhattan store is a World of Disney owned by Disney. it carries theme park merchandise in addition to NYC WOD exclusive merchandise and Disney Theatre merchandise.

Oh, man! I'm in like a state of depression now... Chattanooga's "Disney Store" can't be closed!! :sad1:

While it might not have been as wonderful as The World of Disney store, it was still Disney... :sad1: I loved going to the Disney Store to get my "fix".

We always got our kids' Easter basket stuff at the Disney Store - bathing suits, towels, sunglasses, sandals, beach bags... and stocking stuffers at Christmas... and, when DS had a pirate birthday party and DD had a Little Mermaid birthday party, I purchased figurines for the tops of their cakes... and t-shirts... and "special treats".... and PJ pals... and DH got his Grumpy coffee mug there! :sad1:

Just last Monday, I called the Disney Store to see if they had any Cinderella Toile dresses because I could only find size 12 on-line, and DD would need a size 8... anyway, when I called the store, the lady who answered the phone only said that they were out of dresses - she didn't say a word to me about the store closing! :sad1:

And, as an aside, I didn't realize there were so many Dis-ers in the Chattanooga area! :goodvibes

So, now where's the nearest Disney Store to Chattanooga? Is the Disney Store in Knoxville still open?

A few weeks ago, I discovered that the West Oaks Mall here was closing it's Disney Sore. :( Luckily, I got in on some great closing deals. Thankfully, the main Disney Store I go to at the FL mall is still there. They redesigned it a few years ago.

Personally, I think the merchandise has improved since TCP took over- at least from what TDS had become right before the switch. You can find some of the neatest things there now! They have way better things than the Disney merchandise sold in the parks which I see all the time. I just bought the cutest adult sized Enchanted pjs from TDS! I also have a couple Alice shirts from there that I love. And almost everything gets marked way down if you wait long enough. They are always having great sales.

The Dis store has the same toys and stuff that Target, Kmart and Walmart sell and at a higher price. The only thing I go in there for is clothes for my 5 year old niece, and only when they are on sale.

The toys that are carried at TDS are not the same ones you see at Kmart, Target or Walmart, some maybe similar, however they are not the same. The toys at the stores have the TDS logo on them, which you will never find at Kmart, Target or Walmart. Those products are designed by Disney Consumer line while the products at the stores are exclusively designed for the stores. Actually, the prices are not as high as some people expect. Many of the action figures are right on par with prices at other stores (though not the same product, similar). Of course big chain stores will be able to run sales more often so the prices may be cheaper during those sales.

The economy is really hurting sales everywhere. Besides TDS, my full time job is at a science center where I'm in charge of the gift shop as well as guest services at the check in desk. Last month, the store was down 20%...this month is looking a little better, but it's not just the big stores that are feeling the hit, it's the small ones too.

AngieBelle, did you see the Tink, Minnie and Eeyore tank tops that just came in? They are SOOOOO cute and priced very well, even without a sale. :thumbsup2

We went to the Disney Store and Disney Outlet in Myrtle Beach this weekend to shop for treats for our upcoming trip and the "outlet" didn't have anything different than the regular store except for a couple of racks of clearance clothing that was in really bad shape.

The link to the Disney Store directory above is at least a little out of date. The store in Lansing MI closed a couple weeks ago. It wasn't supposed to close until the 9th of March, but I went out there on the 8th and it was already shuttered up and empty.

The one at Twelve Oaks in Novi was still open when we were there two weeks ago. I was going to ask if they were staying open, but my daughter had an "ohmygoodness, I have to use the potty RIGHT NOW!" moment just as we were finishing up...

The 2 stores near me (in 2 different malls) are - thankfully - still there but they both temporarily closed and one already reopened but just in a different place in the mall. The other one is scheduled to reopen (also in a new location within that mall) in June. And I have to say that, for me, the one that already reopened is better than what it was before. It has a larger location and the staff is very very nice - a real Disney feel for me. Only thing I miss is the big screen that played the Disney movie clips and videos. I'm waiting to see if the one in the other mall has the big screen when it reopens but I have a feeling that it won't. And the new stores seem to be a little more about clothes than the old stores were - I think that's the Children's Place influence. I'm going to have a closer look around on Tuesday when I go back to pick up my copy of Enchanted - I'll see what other differences I notice.

Well, I was back in my newly reopened Disney Store (at the Monmouth Mall) again today - picking up my copy of Enchanted - and I took a closer look at everything. The people working there (can I call them CMs?) are EXTREMELY nice, friendly, and helpful. The prices are definitely better than at the "old" Disney Store. They were in the process of marking down some of the spring merchandise today. And there is (as I think someone already mentioned here) an improved clothing selection than before. Still all the stuffed animals and princess items as well as Power Rangers, pirates, Hannah Montana and High School Musical. Also a nice selection of houseware items - both functional kitchen items and decorative things such as snow globes and artwork. I still miss the big movie screen in the back of the store but the new store has a cluster of smaller screens hanging from the middle of the ceiling.
As soon as the Disney store in the Freehold Mall reopens I'll go check out that one too!

I don't know where else you can get Disney Dollars but I wanted to tell you that my Disney Store closed too  I always thought they did good business, I loved going there.

I too had no idea there were so many Chattanooga Dis-sers! I'm so bummed about the Nooga Disney Store closing. :sad2: I was at Hamilton Place two weekends ago but didn't even go upstairs. It's not even listed on Hamilton Place's website anymore.

I went to West Town Mall in Knoxville last Saturday and the Disney Store was still open. For some reason I'm thinking it was an outlet. I didn't actually look at the sign outside the store but inside it "felt" like the outlet at Nashville's Opry Mills Mall.

The one inside the Burlington Mall in MA is closed also. I had recieved the news that it was closing in an email and so we drove down there and it was already closed :headache: We live closer to another Disney store but we liked going to that one because it was bigger and had more merchandise plus it was across from The Rainforest Cafe. I was truly bummed.

As soon as the Disney store in the Freehold Mall reopens I'll go check out that one too!

They say the one in Freehold is supposed to be where the CVS used to be, but I don't seem to see any construction going on. :( There's a disney outlet a couple miles away at the jackson outlets, but i went there at 6:30 one night and the doors were locked!! I NEED MY DISNEY FIX NOWWW!!

Do any Canadians know if any Disney Stores in Canada are in danger of closing? Specifically the one in the Eaton Centre in Toronto? I hope not! I've only been to that location and it feels so magical! ...just like WDW! pixiedust:
