My Disney Experience Account Question

I apologize if this has been asked before. I saw some similar questions, but not this exact scenario.

We have a trip coming up in September and my brother is traveling with us. He has traveled with us before, but in the past, he had his own room. He does not and has not ever had his own MDE account, however. I am the only person in our party with an account currently and I manage everyone's plans.

For this trip, we are all staying together in a family suite. This means that anything he charges back to the room would be charged to me and I am trying to avoid that. For most purchases, he can just use a credit card instead of his band, but for mobile ordering, I'd like for him to download the app and have his own account.

So my questions is if he downloads the app and creates an account, how will my app know that he is the same "person" as the one in my current friends and family/planning list? Does he need to link the same resort reservation? Can he even do that since I've already linked it to mine? And if he does, I'm assuming he can still use a card to pay for his mobile ordering instead of charging to the room.

I am probably making this more complicated that necessary, lol. I just want to make sure we can keep all purchases separated. For everything else planning wise, it doesn't matter.

You are not making it complicated at all! You can "invite him to plan with you" from your MDE account by entering his email address under your Family & Friends list. It will send him an email where he can create his own MDE account. He can then see all the plans you have linked to him from your account OR all your plans (depends on the security settings you choose). This will also let him manage all the old MBs and cards that are already assigned to him through your account.

As for the MB charging, you can also have the front desk setup different charging privileges for different MBs. It will keep your guest folios separate so you can both charge to the room and have it hit your own credit cards.

If everyone will have MagicBands, you can go to the front desk at the hotel and link different credit cards to the corresponding Magic Bands. You can do this without setting up a separate MDE account for him.

Adding - however, you will need to set up a separate MDE account (as @PolyRob describes above) if your brother will be doing mobile ordering instead of paying with his MagicBand.
