My DIS/New Years Resolution

Normally I try to stay away from posting on the controversial threads (all that training as a counselor has pounded "remain neutral, keep a poker face no matter what" into my head). But every now and then, that little guy with the pitchfork on my shoulder pokes off the little angel and gets his way, and I give in to the temptation.
Since New Years is just around the corner, and since the DIS boards have been a hotbed lately, I am making an early resolution for 2003:
"I will not, under any circumstances, give in to my emotions and post on a "hot button" topic. When reading a post, if I feel my blood pressure raising by even one degree, I will refrain from making a response. I hang out on these boards to share information, not vent emotion, and that will be my focus in the new year."
Anyone else want to join me? If enough of us get together, the "trolls" will give up and the boards will be a nicer place for all.

Count me in too!!! I am literaly hooked and proud to refer myself to be a DISer. My DH says I'm nuts because I am constantly reading things on the DIS board. I just can't help it, I have learned so much from this board. We are planning our trip next Christmas on the "Magic". I hope all of you out there have a happy holiday season.

By the way inkkognito, I really enjoy reading your reports on your website!! I also like the little pictures you use on this board, especially the new one. (I'm too much!!, Snowmiser, watch out for his brother, Heatmiser-ha, ha)

Thank-you, Barb, from another positive thinker. I read the Dis-boards every day (yes, I'm mostly a lurker ) to keep my spirits up till the next cruise, which is normally pretty far away. Mean spirited negative stuff can really spoil my day.

For the most part, this board is full of wonderful information and lovely, friendly people. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Btw, you two are superstars in our house. My daughter reads the boards as much as I do and constantly reports what "Barb and Tony said". So cute.

Ok, out of respect, love and admiration to Barb, I will TRY to bite my tounge or at least wait five minutes to respond to a topic that in under my craw. At preschool we tell the tykes to put their hand on their bellies, take a deep breath in, let it sweek out and "calm down" I will practice this at home. I can't promice to be 'dispationate' but I can be civil

Barb, Thank you!!!! I haven't posted in a long time. I have sitting back reading all the negative posts and cringing at all of them. I started coming to this site to gain info and the magical touch of previous cruisers. I don't like the vibe of the dis lately. So count me in for a more positive dis after the New Year. Disney Wonder here I come, almost 4 months!!!!!!!

Actually, I've pretty much taken the same position as you... trying to avoid posting on the hot-button topics. But sometimes I let myself get pulled in. I certainly got involved in the Obstructed Verandah threads and also in Pinclubs' dress code threads.

But, yes, like you, I will reaffirm my intention not to post on the hot-button issue threads.

When I first found these boards I was thrilled. Someone above posted that the posts help you to get through until your vacation, it gives me "my fix". Ever since I found the boards I have been less obsessed about our vacation and more obsessed with the boards or at least addicted, checking them daily.

I was just thinking tonight after reading posts how it has turned around. Almost thinking it would be better to not have found the boards because of all of the posts that are negative and have caused me concern. It is almost like knowing the future or focusing on the negative before the positive even gets here. That doesn't make very much sense does it.

I must admit, that my goal was to just read and gather information but I guess I am a passionate person and I read something that strikes me and like the others, my fingers start typing before I take a deep breath.

So thankyou for the post and the suggestion. I am not, NOT going to post one negative thing on this board or share my opinion for hot topics starting right after this post. I will only ask questions or send nice notes. Then maybe I will start to enjoy it again. Doesn't mean you won't see an "ugh" here and there.
