April 16-22 Myself (26) and DS (6) - who I can say picked not ate My mother then joined us on the evening of April 18th.

I will only post onsite or places of interest.

April 16th - Lunch - We ate at the POR food court. We were starving and tired as we were up at 3am. We got to the food court around noon. It was not crowed at all. I went and got a cheeseburger and fries. My son wanted pizza so I went and ordered him a pizza. There were 2 people in line and the lady behind that counter took so long and kept messing up the orders. I was there for 15 minutes, which was crazy with only 2 people ahead of me. I finally ordered the pizza and she gave me a ticket and told me to come back in 10 minutes, which was fine. I went and paid and sat down in a seat where I could see my son when I went and got the pizza. I started eating my burger. I let my son start in on his worms and dirt because he was starving. I went up for the pizza and waited for an extra 10 minutes before it was done. Finally I brought him the pizza. My son took one bite and started gagging. I then tried it, because who knows with kids. It was inedible, horrible, raw in the inside and I can't describe what the taste of the cheese was. So, by this time the food court was packed. I couldn't even deal with telling someone about it at that point so I went and got him some chicken nuggets and he had that. My burger got cold during all this, so I grabbed a worms and dirt for myself and called it a day. So my first impression of the food court was not good.

Dinner - That night we went to DTD. We went to Planet Hollywood. We had 1/2 wait. Many people in there I was chatting with had an almost 2 hour wait. With only 2 of us, the wait wasn't bad. We went up to the bar and I had a much-needed beer while waiting. I had the fajitas with fries and my son had the chicken fingers. it was very good. It was strange how quickly the food came out. It was under 5 minutes, I am not kidding. Where they are so big and busy they must have the food cooked 1/2 way or something. For desert my son got the make your own sundae. It was cute. It came out on a tray with little cups of all the toppings and he could do what he wanted with it. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake. When I was about to take a bite, I noticed it was strawberry shortcake. I ate it anyways. I wanted to get out of there and figured I had never had one of these and now was the time to try it. it was very good.

April 17th - Breakfast - We had a PS 9:25 for Crystal Palace breakfast. We got there about 9:15 and were seated within 5 minutes. The food was not very good. I ate it because I was hungry. I just felt like the food wasn't very fresh, maybe because of the time we got there. I usually love the breakfast here. I got some eggs and smothered them in ketchup. The pancakes were ok and the kid’s waffles were gross. When I was up there, the food just didn't look good. My son had a waffle and a banana. He said he didn't like the waffle, it was hard, but I made him eat it. They also had some small donuts, so we had a few of them. The characters were great. They all came around to out table and I was very happy with them. Piglet was up near the food, so we went and had a visit with him. Even thought I didn't like the food this time, I would go back here. I like the look of the place and my son loves Pooh and friends.

Dinner - We had a 5:00 PS for Liberty Tree Tavern. And let me tell you did I eat. I was starving. We got there a few minutes before 5:00 and did not have a wait. The place was ot busy at all. The waitress asked me if my son would like something off the children’s menu and thank God she did because he would have never eaten the other food. So he got chicken fingers, again, and he ate them all. I started out with the totally awesome bread. Oh he had a roll, which really surprised me. His theory is bread shouldn't be eaten unless it comes out of the toaster. The butter was soooo good. Then they served a salad. I picked at that, as I was feeling full from the 3 rolls and gallon of coke I had. Then came the meal. They served a plate with 2 slices of ham, 2 slices of turkey, and 3 slices of a thin (london broil I thought it was) beef on top of. Then I got a bowl of potatoes, mac & cheese, carrots. I ate all of it except the carrots because I don't like carrots. I was so full so I didn’t order any more but I could have had all I wanted. For desert my son had a bowl of vanilla ice cream and I had the apple crisp thing they served with vanilla ice cream. I ate every single bite of that. Oh and the characters….It was great. They came around numerous times and it was really fun. It was the best character interaction that I have ever been a part of. Goofy was there and Pluto. I kept calling Pluto Goofy and everyone around me was going crazy. It was funny. I am definitely going back here for dinner the next time.

April 18th – Breakfast – I had a 10:30 PS for Boatwright’s, but I cancelled it. We were going to Universal that day so we wanted to hurry since they close so early. So we went to the food court. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the lines. But we had to eat. My son got 2 bowls of fruit loops and a banana. What kids doesn’t like pancakes??? It blows my mind. I wanted pancakes and French toast, so I ordered the pancakes and a kid French toast, no sides. The pancakes were ok, and the French toast was hard and gross. I guess I just didn’t have a good experience in the POR food court.

Dinner – I picked my mother up and we had a 9:00pm PS for Chef Mickey’s. I feel like some of my reviews are negative, but this one is bad. We got there, had a few minutes wait, took our pictures and sat down. It was really crowed. I went up and got my son some chicken fingers and mac & cheese and a slice of Goofy’s pizza. I couldn’t even breath when I went up there it smelled so disgusting. I brought his food back and then went up for myself. I felt like I was in a food kitchen and was eating slop. I just don’t eat that stuff. It was nasty. There were Mickey shaped ravioli. They were hard and gross. There was some meat slop, for lack of a better word. They had prime rib and something else on the carving station. I can’t even remember it all because I guess I blocked it out of my mind. Oh and the rolls were hard. I got some stuff and took one bite of the prime rib and I did not eat anything. My mother got a plate and she did not even eat one bite. My son had one bite of the chicken fingers and said they were not chicken fingers. Anyways, the desert bar was nice. They had ice cream with tons of toppings, cheese cake, chocolate cake and tons a pastries. My son had some ice cream and cookies. My mother and I did not have any desert because we were so disgusted by the food. I would just think that a restaurant in the Contempory hotel would be good. So $75 + tip was given to Disney for nothing. I wouldn’t have minded but the character interaction was bad. A few came around and it was fun. Dale walked right by and my son was devastated. Minnie walked by the table and gave us a wave. My son was dying for Minnie’s autograph as it was one of the only ones he needed. So I put my foot down and told the waiter. He said he would see what he could do. We waited and waited, so finally I said let’s go. Low and behold we saw her on the way out, so I stopped the coordinator and she let us have a minute with Minnie. Thank God. So, we would never go back here if it were the last place on earth.

April 19th – Lunch – We had a 3:10 PS at the Sci-Fi Café. I oly can go 100% positive here. This was an awesome place. The whole atmosphere was so cool. I never pictured it to be like that. My mother and I got a cheeseburger and fries and my son of course got chicken fingers. I ate every single piece of everything on my plate, as did my mother. My so and I split a brownie ice cream desert and it was great. I had a Corona with my burger and it was very refreshing. I would have to eat here again. All the food I saw coming out looked great. The people were fun and my son got is own drivers license. The cars you sit in were great and so were the movies. I give this place an A+ for food and atmosphere.

April 20th – Lunch – My son wanted to go to the PacMan café on International Drive. We got some food. He got a pizza that was shaped like PacMan. It was good, I tried it. I had an order of mozzarella sticks and my mother some garlic bread. It was a nice snack.

Dinner – We had a PS for 9:20 at Whispering Canyon . That was the only time I could get. There was only our party and 2 others in the place. The fun just wasn’t there. Out waitress was about to have her baby any day, that’s how pregnant she was. She threw the straws at my son and that was it. We tried to make jokes, but she just wasn’t having it. My mother asked the bus boy if my son could have a hat and he made him one. My son had a good time, but I think I was expecting more. He asked for ketchup and he got 1 bottle of ketchup. So I was disappointed. I order the skillet and wow is all I can say. It was so good. I have heard of pulled pork, but never knew what it was. It was just so yummy. The corn bread was the best I ever had. My mother had the steak and said it was superb. My son ate…take a guess…chicken fingers. The food was excellent. We had a few drinks, beer and gin & tonic for my mother. I was planning on ordering a Pepsi and hoping for a gallon of it, but I was 99% sure it wasn’t going to happen, so I said the heck with it and had a beer. I had a really scrumptious apple crisp desert and my son had vanilla ice cream. I really wanted more fun. Next time, because we will go back, I will try to get a 6:00 or 7:00 seating when I am sure things are very lively.

April 21th – Lunch - Beaches & Cream – I want to stay at the Beach club next time we go, so I wanted to check it out and I wanted a kitchen sink. We went there and it was so cute. It was a really nice looking place. I had a burger and fries and my mother had a turkey sandwich with onion rings. They were excellent. The bun on the burger was lightly toasted with butter, awesome!! My son ordered a grilled cheese. No he didn’t change his mind, they did not have chicken fingers. So I saw someone get a kitchen sink. The lights flicker and they make a huge deal and scream and yell, I was so excited to get one. But did this happen, no. My son btw, was out of control on this trip, huge attitude, may get into it more in my trip report. In my eyes a 6 year old should not know what an attitude is and how to have one, but kids these days. We should be on Dr Phil, for kids who cause nightmares on vacation. Anyways, he was so fresh, refused to eat even after I gave him $20 bucks for the arcade while we were waiting for out food. It was cool because I asked the waitress for a table were I could see my son in the arcade, nice touch. So he was out of control and I just could not reward his behavior with that ice cream. I was so mad walking out of that place. The waitress tried to console me. So I liked Beaches & Cream and plan on going back there again.

April 22 – Outback at MCO – Just thought I would write about it since we all go to the airport. My mother and I had burgers and fries and my son chicken fingers. I had a margarita to calm my nerves before getting on the plane. We all ate everything on out plates. Maybe because we love the Outback here in Boston, I don’t know. But it was nice and it was quick.

We also had breakfast at Denny’s. Up here in Boston we would never go into Denny’s. It is just gross up here, but let me tell you. I would go to Denny’s in Florida before I would go to the Ritz for brunch. We went 2x. It was the best breakfast I ever had in my life.

So hope you all enjoy my reviews and I hope some of them were not to negative.

I enjoyed reading your reviews. Don't worry about being negative about some places. It is good to read all kinds of reports. At least you can eliminate some places next time. ;)

It was nice of the server at B&C to understand your plight. :sunny:

Thanks for your honest reviews. :)

I've never been to Crystal Palace or Chef Mickeys. I have a feeling that I would have the same opinion of them. But who knows.

I also LOVED the skillet at Whispering Canyon. We ate there at about the same time. It was a Saturday night and was still pretty crazy the first 30 minutes. But after that it quieted down. I kind of liked it that way.

I also enjoy SciFi DIne-In, although it seems to get bad reviews. We didn't go on our last trip though. I hear lunch is better than dinner.

Sorry you didn't get your kitchen sink. Maybe next time.

There's an Outback at MCO? My boyfriend would have loved that. We had to suffer with Burger King.

I was soo glad to hear someone be honest about their dining experiences. I am taking notes as to where to eat and where not to. We were planning on staying at Pop Century but after hearing reviews of the dining experieces at the budget Disney resorts, I'll stick to making reservations at BWV. We're planning on going next March (our October trip got cancelled :() but have plenty of time to keep a log of places to eat and stay!

Thanks for your review!

Thanks for the reviews! LOL, about Dennys. ;)

Just a question about Planet Hollywood...Did you inquire at Guest Services at your resort about a preferred seating card or was the wait with the card? I'm not sure if they are still doing them and I was wondering, thats why I ask.
Thanks!

I have to agree about Chef Mickey's. We had dinner there Thursday night. It took forever to be seated, even with a PS. The food was absolutely terrible (especially the seafood stirfry). I can't believe they serve garbage like that in an upscale hotel. Our lunch at Crystal Palace was much better by comparison. Overall the character interaction and wait staff were great in both places, just don't go there looking for a gourmet meal.

Breakfast seems to get better reviews than dinner at most Disney buffets. Does anyone want to confirm or challenge that?

I did not inquire about that at PlanetHollywood, I didn't know you could do that. Good to know for next time.

I figure it's better to be honest than not. But for the meals I didn't like, I don't hold it against them. Just about any place I eat, at one time or another it wasn't good, things happen. I would go back everywhere except Chef Mickeys.

I agree on Chef Mickey's, for the price it just isn't very good. I don't have it on the plans this next trip and my dd is dissapointed. I think sometimes she just enjoys the experiences and has fond memories of them and wants to do the SAME thing over again.
We have not done Crystal Palace in a very long time. I am on the fence about this as I thought if my ds really wants to do more charcter dining, we might add it.
Whispering Canyon was the same, we could take it or leave it. We are staying at WL for the first time in Jan. and we DO NOT plan on doing this one.
I agree with Sci Fi, one of our must do's every vacation.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the reviews!

I think Whispering Canyon has gotten a reputation for being wild and crazy like 50's PT, but it's the discretion of the waitstaff, you know? From my understanding, it wasn't designed to be that way like 50's PT was and just evolved into that kind of place... so people go for that interaction and it doesn't always happen so then you're stuck with just another dining exp. You know? Anyways, we are staying at WL in 12 days and aren't planning on taking a chance... though that skillet looks yummy =)

Thanks for the honest reviews!

Thanks so much for the reviews! There is no worry about being "negative" - we all know that all restaurants/servers/etc. have on and off days so I don't think you'll offend anyone. ;)

You've convinced me to try Whispering Canyon on my trip in a few weeks - now to just figure out how to fit it in LOL.

Thanks again for a great read!

Wow, your dining review just about made my stomach turn. I appreciate your honesty. Honestly, I have NEVER been happy with the dinner buffet at Chef Mickey's. I have never liked their dinner food. Always have preferred the Cape May buffet for dinner.

It sounds like you ended up eating a bunch of junk on your trip. I know that would make me cranky. Maybe that's why your DS (6) had such an attitude. Too many chicken nuggets, bad pizza, and desserts???
