My DH doesn't get my obsession

This just cracked me up. DH and I were cooking dinner tonight, and discussing making reservations at Napa Rose for my birthday, on our upcoming trip in September. He's only been to DL the once, 8 years ago, the disaster trip with a sick teenager, when we spent our time split up, between the hotel room and taking the other kids to the parks.

So we get onto the subject of EMH and MMs, and the difference between them, which of course he knows very little about, because I'm the DISboards addict, not him. He says, "So what are the rides everybody runs for at rope drop now, in California Adventure?" And I started explaining TSMM, RSR, and the new Soarin'. And how they run out of FPs. And I take my phone out of my pocket, saying, "Here, I'll show you. Let's just check how the lines are right now." His jaw drops-- I guess he didn't realize this app existed, though I'm sure I told him how I used it during my solo trip last year-- and he watches as I flip around the parks, commenting, "Yup, see, 60 minutes here-- oh, that's not bad, only 40 minutes there-- of course, no FPs left, they were probably gone by 10 this morning-- But over in DL, look, there's still FPs for Indy for the 10:30 p.m. window- that's pretty good for this late in the day."

He looks at me with a mixture of somewhat horrified awe and semi-reluctant admiration, and says, "Man, you're obsessed."

Oh, my darling. You have NO idea. This trip is going to be great, though, because I know approximately what I'm doing.

LOL. I know that look. We were gift shopping in the parks today. I put all the things on the counter and handed the CM, who must have been new, my i.d., AP, and credit card. She gave me that look and said, "Wow... You're a pro." Umm, yeah. Much to DH's chagrin.

DH and I had a similar conversation a few years ago.... He had gone 15 years before, with his exwife and 4 kids, and zero planning. They slept in a tent at a KOA, I believe he said. Lines sucked, and he didn't enjoy it. But knowing how much I liked it, he agreed to go "one more time."

That was 4 years ago.

.... He's getting ready for his solo trip in 3 weeks, has the Disneyland app loaded on his phone, and has been listening to the ride soundtracks for weeks.

There's hope for your DH yet! ;-)

Good stuff. Yeah the DW rolled her eyes at me when I first showed her the DL app but now, as we get closer to our trip, she will ask me what the lines look like for this ride at this time on such and such a day. Yes, yes give in to the obsession with Disney side!

Kinda makes me giggle now, as he's a complete "snob" who demands Park Vue (LOL) because its closest to the main gates and has great beds, and jacuzzi suites. Then again, compared to a tent, any place would have better beds....

Clearly he upgraded--new wife, new marriage, new place to stay on vacation

Yeah, feel that pain! My nDH (non-Disney Husband) was basically 'neutral' about my Disney-mania (you know, head shake and 'whatever floats your boat') but was willing to come with and had a pretty good time. I think in time I could have made him 'Disney positive' if not an actual fan. But then his friend (whose wife is my Disney-Sister, her nDH hates anything she likes that he's not actively interested in) got ahold of him and now he's actively anti-Disney. It sucks, but doesn't stop either of us.

My DH half way gets it and tolerates my obsession. We go for a week in July. He likes getting away and not having to worry about what needs doing around the house! I just just make sure to let him beer taste here and there, take lots of coffee breaks, and sit and listen to the musicians in DTD in the evening.

LOL. My DH is the similar. Prior to getting together, he had only been to DL a handful of times. He goes when I tell him we're going, but it's not a trip he seeks out on his own. It's fun for him when he's there, but he knows next to nothing about which rides run out of FPs, or even how to use the FP option. And he has no interest in trying various foods at the parks. It's pretty much, well, whatever is in front of us works. He's annoyed because I'm already in pre-planning mode for a WDW vacation we aren't taking for 5 more years.
