Bruce: 30, depressed about thirty
Michelle: 28 cannot wait to be thirty, so we can go back to NYC

St Patrick’s Day today. I cannot remember what time we got up. We headed down to breakfast, I had my usual bagel and this time Bruce decided to have a bagel, and he was quite surprised that he liked it. We were off to watch the St Patrick’s parade today and it started at 11:00. Bruce suggested we used the underground otherwise; we would have plenty of rides left on the card.

The weather was still cold, but the skies were clear. Thank god. We left the hotel in my new green top I bought especially for St Patrick’s we took the underground to Times Square. We wanted to walk to 46th street, so we started walking up the road to find that we were walking the wrong way and in fact we were crossing avenues supposed to streets. Therefore, we came back on ourselves and started heading towards 5th avenue. We saw everyone in the parade getting ready and the atmosphere was electric. It was nice to see people come together. We found our spot to stand, but due to the snow, NYC made sure 5th Avenue road was clear for the parades. Therefore, the pavements were covered with snow from the snow and covered with slush. It was quite hard to stand and not be covered in slush. The parade started and we took some photos. We saw NYPD, Marines, Soldiers, Irish men walking up Fifth Avenue and we stayed for 45 minutes and we said right lets get out of here before it ends so we can get to Top of The Rock. We started to walk to Top of The Rock and I was convinced it was on 42nd Street. However, when we arrived we found it was on 49th street. Therefore, we had a coffee instead and headed back out. The streets were so busy with people walking around it was quite hard getting around the slush and traffic. We finally found Rockefeller Centre and we went inside.

I think it was around 12:30 when we finally went to the top of rock. When we walked out my mouth dropped, the views were fantastic. The clear skies and the view were amazing. We could see Central Park clearly and Statue of Liberty. The other thing about Top of Rock we liked so much was it was facing directly opposite of Empire State Building. It was amazing. We had a great time up here and spent a while walking around and enjoying the views. I remembered hearing about a restaurant on Top of The Rock called Rainbow room. We asked a member of staff and they pointed us into the right direction. However, by the time we got to the bottom of Top of The Rock we could not remember where it was. So we asked a security officer and he said it does not open until 17:00. Disappointed we were I said to Bruce I need to sit down, as my feet were so sore, I think with all the walking, and new heavy boots my ankle started to hurt as well it felt like I had pulled a muscle. Bruce went and got a Pretzel and I sat down waited for him to come back. We saw Rockefeller centre ice rink and it was not that great so we decided to wait and see if we could ice skate in Central Park. We left the Rockefeller Centre and we said we wanted to eat at Jekyll and Hyde club, which we saw on the net. Problem was we did not bring the address and Bruce vaguely remembered the address. We got a taxi to 55th street and walked up to 57th street 7th avenue. We could not see it anywhere. We started to walk around, we had no luck, and I said well we will find somewhere else to eat. Bruce said lets walk to 6th Avenue. We walked to 6th Avenue and Bruce convinced it was around here he had a look and found it. It was between 57th and 58th street and we could see the entrance to Central Park as well. We were excited to find Jekyll and Hyde club and that we see the entrance of Central Park.

We went into Jekyll and Hyde club and it started off good, we went inside a room and the lights went out and animated skeleton came on and said we had to pass a bravery test before we were allowed in and the roof started to come down. So far so good. We were shown were to stand, within a few minutes a waiter came up, and sat us down. Ok not great seats, but you cannot help that. Then this family came over with babies and I thought aye! I thought it was meant to be a scary restaurant; this is how it was advertised on the website. Bruce said no it is a family restaurant. Little disappointed now. I was expecting some thing’s to happen to scare us that was the point. Oh well. The family started to sit down and a waiter came up and said can we move because they realized there was not enough room for all of us. I said yes that was fine. They moved us back to the line and we were standing there for ages with people walking past us and waiters standing around looking bored. Now I was not impressed. I said to a server we were moved and we are waiting her like lemons and what is happening. A man came up and sat us down, because I think he had finally caught on there were people waiting. We sat down and again the seating was cramped. I thought well you expect these sorts of things in a theme restaurant so I was not that bothered. We noticed there was a $2.50 charge per person for live entertainment fee. I thought great this should be good even though it is a family restaurant. However, the entertainment my god was it poor… The entertainers were going around the children and the entertainment in my eyes did not really flow and make any sense. I was rather confused with the entertainment to be honest. I was rather disappointed with the restaurant. The way the restaurant offered drinks you had to buy a souvenir cup to get cheaper drinks, which was okay, but a pain to walk around NYC with. We still bought them and I quite like my cup. Bruce had a burger (typical Bruce never changes) and I had chicken with ham and cheese in a roll. This was tasteless and Bruce said his was nice. We both had a dessert I had the cheesecake and Bruce had a brownie dessert with two lagers, two cokes with both 2 souvenir glasses and the bill came to $87. A little disappointed with the meal we headed over to Central Park.

It was about 3:30pm and Central Park looked so pretty with the snow. We saw the ice rink and walked down and we thought yeah we have to do this. At $34 it was expensive, but you are in Central Park ice-skating. To be honest I did not do at all well with the ice-skating. My balance was awful and my skates were so blunt they were just slipping. So scared of falling over and not being able to get up I stuck to the sides. Bruce got on really well. I had a laugh at watching people not falling over, but because I was not the only one sticking to the sides. We were chatting and laughing around. This poor man wanted to get past me, but I was so scared to let go he said he would go around. The next thing I knew he had both arms around me holding the side. He said oh no I am so sorry I am stuck. He could not skate. Every time he tried to let go of the barriers he started to slip so he kept grabbing the side and he was so embarrassed that it looked like he was cuddling me. I thought it was so funny. Trying not to laugh was so hard. Finally, he managed to get around me and we both had a laugh about it. He was so embarrassed. 16:30 we left the ice rink and started to walk around. I saw the horse carriages and said I wanted to have a ride in them. We could not see where we picked one up. We decided we walk around and if we saw them, we would get on one. Time was getting on, because we were going to try and get to see the Rangers, but knew we would probably have a problem with getting the tickets, but thought we would try anyway. We came out of Central Park, Bruce got me a coke, and surprise surprise Bruce got another snack (he loves his snacks this boy). There they were the horses. We had a ride in the park at $34. It was romantic and we had a great time. The horseman said that St Patricks day parade finishes around 17:00. We were quite shocked to find this out, thinking we left early. Sadly, we had to leave Central Park and get a taxi to Madison Square Gardens.

We found a cab on 5th Avenue and the traffic was quite bad. Therefore, we got out of the cab and walked up to Madison. It was 6:30 and the security person really annoyed me. We had to go through security to the box office. He was rather rude. They only had $170 tickets left. We decided no, so we would walk up to Times Square and find this TKTS place. Bruce did not think we would make it in time as it was already approaching 6:45. For some reason I had this energy and I was walking so fast? We made it in 15 min to Times Square, which was amazing for me in these heavy boots. We found TKTS. We waited in line. We got speaking to a few people and were getting recommendations. We decided it would be Avenue Q or Spamalot. We wanted to see a comedy. When we got there, they were partial view. Arrggh. Decision time. Bruce mentioned the Producers and Bruce knew I wanted to see the Phantom an innocent argument, well not an argument really it was a “well you want to see that” argument the ticket seller was laughing at us and said he just saw a free show. We still could not make up our minds. I knew Bruce did not want to see Phantom and Bruce being Bruce always thinking of others said to someone in the line is the Phantom of The Opera good. A man said yes it was so Bruce said right Phantom it is. Excited as I was, I felt so guilty for Bruce watching it.

We had excellent seats, but at the last minute, two tall men sat in front. As the show started, I was impressed with the stage and the costumes were amazing. The men in front started talking. Three strikes I thought before I tell them to sshhh. Eventually I said sshhh they were rather loud they eventually shut up! When they sang Phantom of The Opera, it was amazing. I was so impressed with the stage. Bruce however, looked bored. We had an interval and the lady and daughter beside Bruce said we are moving seats to the end so we would get a clear view. However, I still had a tall man in my way so I sat on my coat for height. After a while, it was rather repetitive they kept singing parts of the same song repeatedly. Music of the night in different variations. This was rather annoying. All in all the show was good, but repetitive.

After the show, we went to Toys R Us again to see if there was anything to buy the boys, but we could not find anything, so we headed back to the hotel.

A great day and it is sad because we have to go back home tomorrow. At least we do not have to leave the hotel until 17:30. We loved Central Park it was amazing, so beautiful to see in the snow. Would love to see Central Park in the summer having a picnic.

Thanks for reading my trip report. Only 1 day left the depature day. I will try and finish that one at some point. We were pleased with the pictures especially the ones we took on this day. Although it was cold the weather was sunny and it really helped with the pictures.

We were so tired when we got back. When we booked BA we were excited to watch all the films, but we could hardly watch one film before falling a sleep. :rotfl:
