My December rideshare costs for curious potential rideshare users

There are always questions about using rideshare. This was my recent experience. I usually check both Uber and Lyft, sometimes use the slightly longer wait time for lower price.

Dec 7 MCO arrival early. Pickup at 8:45 AM, to Cabana Bay resort at Universal. Lyft total was $37.49, probably was about $31 before tip.
Dec 8 took Uber from Cabana Bay to Disney Springs, about 3 PM. $14.95 before tip. Took Lyft back around 10 PM. $16.65 before tip.
Dec 11 took Lyft from Cabana Bay to Swan hotel, 11 AM $15.99 before tip
Dec 13 took Lyft from Swan to Wilderness Lodge 10 AM $6.95 before tip. I had put in the longer wait time for less $, but he came in 1 minute.
Dec 13 Lyft from Swan to MCO, 4 PM $25.85 before tip. Again, put in longer wait time but it wasn't very long.

Thank you for this. I'm considering not getting a rental car for my Feb trip and it's really helpful to do some planning for the budget.

Given the cost of parking at DW, and the cost of renting a car, totally do the ride share/car service methods. It will save your budget thousands (I'm not joking).

I don't have to pay for parking since I'm staying on DVC points. It is quite convenient to have a car at one's disposal and I've not done a trip without one yet. At trip without my kids seems the perfect time to try it out.

From my experience, these prices seem rather low, perhaps the OP was traveling during a non-peak period and at less busy times of the day.. I would not use this information to create a budget for a trip, you will be very disappointed. Rideshare services (Uber, Lyft, etc.) fluctuate dramatically in price based on demand, time of day, time of year, special events, etc.

Perhaps your experience was during busy times, that does not make my experience less valid. I could post a similar comment if you posted a thread with high rates, that your rates are not typical. I included the times and dates of the rides. Lyft has a feature, often the third one down, that says wait a bit longer for less. I was not usually in a huge hurry so I saved 2 or 3 bucks on several rides, and even though the last trip to the airport said 'wait 5-19 minutes', it was only about 10.

I don't seem to see class of vehicle you used anywhere

I agree with both yours and the PP's point. I think the PP was just trying to give people more knowledge. If someone was thinking about renting a car vs not renting a car the fluctuation in pricing would be a very important piece of the puzzle.

If I had to guess most people would be taking it before your earliest start time (to get to the parks early) as well as later than you did (because they are staying later at the parks). And generally most people will want to get to the parks fast and out of the parks fast.

That isn't to say thank you for sharing your detailed information, it's helpful, but I can see what the PP was mentioning that information for. Right now and for the two years rental car pricing is higher than in year's past so that will also be part of the puzzle. And if not on-site paying for parking will also be part of the puzzle too.

Point is, a wise person using this to compare if they should rent a car or not really needs to add about 10, maybe 15% just to be safe and end up in the middle of the road for typical ride share. These are low end rates, based on my several year experience using Ride Share at Disney, including a trip during your exact dates and route. Flew down 7th, out 13th. Went from MCO to Universal to Disney to MCO.

I think it's interesting to post fees, they can vary quite a bit. For instance, I took Lyft from my home to the airport and it was $24 before tip. When I returned, that same trip was $68, was supposedly surge pricing. An hour later it was back down to $23. I paid the $68 (which was more than a taxi, but I hate taxis) because I was tired and wanted to get home. This is in Boston, the trip to the airport was at 4am and the return trip was at 9pm, no events going on in the city, though it was a Friday night. The distance was less than 8 miles. Pretty crazy! Uber and Lyft prices were comparable, and that was the price (return trip) for a wait.

I just took Lyft from BWI to MCO (12/16 at 10:30am) it was $27.35 before tip.

We took a cab from MCO to the Swan (12/9 7:30pm) and it was $62 before tip. Lyft and Uber had surge pricing and both were $110.

Just checking - has there been plenty of availability from MCO, or are you waiting a while? Arriving (hopefully) around 8am on Wednesday morning. Thanks!

There can be some pretty wild fluctuations. One morning our Uber trip from Disney springs to Epcot was $36. The return trip was $11.

PP never said your experience wasn't valid. (S)he was just saying the amounts seemed low to them. Which is important to note if people are going to use your numbers for budgeting. You also don't say how many people were in your party or what class of vehicle.

More data points... party of 6 from MCO to DS on July 25 (a Monday) at 11:10A: $50.41.
Same party of 6 from DS to MCO same day at 3:44P: $125.59

Those were both UberXL because of the size of the party.
