My DD's Teacher is losing it

My 11 yo, 6th grade DD was quite full of information tonight. Not clear on all of it, but the gist of what she was told is that our city is the 3rd most likely to be attacked sometime next week, that Armageddon and Resurrection are coming. I tried to allay her fears with reason, but she's still pretty worried about it. The source of this information? Her Gifted Language/Lit teacher! The teacher is a very nice lady, excellent teacher, and does all she can to help my DD with problems at school. She has missed a lot of school this year, I'm wondering if she's having health problems. This seems very out of line for a classroom topic, and I'm thinking of calling the Principal next week. What would you do? Diana

I definitely would follow-up with the principal on this... That is not acceptable... {{{HUGS}}} to DD... Things are scary enough these days, she doesn't need that!

That's extremely inappropriate. I would be on the phone with the principal first thing Monday morning.

I totally agree. That teacher had no right to say the things she said to your daughter or the class. The principal should be informed before she says anything else. Good luck!

Definitely call the Principal!! That is way out of line to be discussing/warning 11 year old children!

Hugs to you and your DD and good luck!
Cathy

Definatly tell someone. We had a substitute for RE a couple of weeks ago and he went on about how he knows Osama Bin Laden and even went as far as showing us a picture of him with some1 he claimed was Osama. He said it was taken 7 years ago so we really didn't know if he was telling the truth or what. Well we were all pretty shaken by the time we got out of the classroom (we didn't think we were going to get out at one stage) and my friend was really upset in her detention. When she was asked why she told the teacher who went to the headteacher and explained what had happened. The scary teacher hasn't been seen since.

Address it with the teacher before going to the principal. I would never jeopardize someone's job or reputation without trying to solve the situation at the lower levels first.

I had a calculus teacher that did the same thing. He was a born again Christian and was convinced that the world was going to end in 1980. Over and over again he would tell us to be ready. Well, we're still here and he's probably still teaching.

How frightening for your daughter. I would call the principal and calmly tell her what your daughter told you so that it can be checked out.

{{{HUGS}}} for your dd.

I agree. Our principal would just say, "Have you talked with the teacher first?"

Yes, I think I'll call the teacher. It could be a misunderstanding, something they were reading, but I doubt it. Current book is The Hobbit. I think I'll approach it from "you know DD is such a worrier", and see what she says. Diana
