My DD with a question about 50s PTC...

Hello!Ive been really scared about this restaurant because I heard that the waiters pick on people. but hopefully they will leave us alone but I bet my uncle Andy will get in troblue. Should i be scared?

You will have a great time at this restaurant, it's all very fun! They joke around with you and want you to have a good time, that's all. My friend that was with me was too full to eat much of her dessert, so our waiter scolded for having eyes bigger than her stomach and told her that grandma would deal with her later. It was so funny. Don't be worried, just join in the fun and you will have a blast! I'll bet this will be your favorite restaurant at WDW.

We love that restaurant. My family can be very reclusive. I guess that is the word. Meaning, my kids and DH do NOT like attention. However, they enjoy the banter that goes on in this restaurant. The waiters and waitresses pick at each other as well as some of the guests. They seem to know who to pick on. The waiter had my oldest son (14 at the time) and a girl about the same age at another table picking up the dirty dishes and stacking them because they kept ignoring the rules (intentionally, I might add). The non-attention seeking son of mine seemed to enjoy the attention that day! Perhaps it was because a pretty girl was helping him doing the chores (??).

It was great! The waiter had my son take a bite of his greens that he hadn't touched. Ds wouldn't have done it otherwise, but did it because it was so fun. You can tell them ahead if you want to be left alone, but the fun of it is them treating you like your eating at Grandma's. We LOVED it!

I still sometimes get anxious before we go, but I always leave laughing!

No, don't be scared! My dd always used to be nervous going there when she was younger. She'd be on her best behavior and the servers realized that. So they'd pick on me and call her their little angel girl. I'm betting they'll leave you alone and pick on your Uncle Andy. (Make him eat your uneaten food.)

We ate there back when dd was about 8. We traveled with another family and their dd, also 8. My dd loved the whole 'experience' at 50's. We had Cousin Chris..he was a complete hoot. He played with my dd a lot. After he caught me with my elbows on the table, he made me write an essay, on a napkin no less, about why one shouldn't put their elbows on the dinner table..had to do that before I could eat.
But...the other young lady with us was horrified. She was terrified that she would get 'picked on'. You should see her face in our video....she can eat fast enough to make sure that Cousin Chris has no issue with her. In fact, when we took the two girls back to WDW, to celebrate their 13th birthdays, the only thing Kath insisted on was 'no 50's P/T'..not eating there, ever.

The CMs seem to realize who wants to play and who doesn't. We have had some terrific servers. But we have also had some duds.

Can't Wait! We're trying it for the first time in February. I'm hoping my Mom gets a kick out of it, being a 50's vintage!
I hope our CM will be able to get my DD6 to eat, that girls survives on air!

Our teens love this restaurant and have since they were small. However, we did witness a waitress "cross the line" last spring at the table next to us. She was berating a small boy (about 5 yrs old) about not eating his vegetables. She kept going after him until the Mom said, "He did try some, thats all we ask." I would take that as "Enough already!" But the waitress kept it up and the boy burst into tears. I wasn't at all surprised at his reaction, giving how harsh she was with him. Both parents looked furious and the entire group left almost immediately.

Our waitress, on the other hand, took my sister's untouched plate of greens and returned with it covered in whipped cream and chocolate. What a hoot!

I am hoping the first waitress was new and wasn't sure where the line was, but in my mind she definitely crossed it! What I learned from the incident was that if I am ever there with small kids or someone who couldn't handle the ribbing, I would step in and stop it before it went too far.

I am one that likes to blend in with the crowd and had wondered if I would like eating here also. We just got back and this is one of the places my boys are still talking about. It was so fun and we were all cracking up----especially when the waitress tried to spoon feed dh his veggies.

We have been here twice before ds8 and dd5 were born. We had a hard time deciding if we wanted to do this because of the 6 kids. But we decided the adults would have fun. We usually put our leftovers on dh's plate so our plates are clean.

Usually, the servers at these places are pretty good at figuring out who wants to play and who doesn't. But since the 'antics' are the main draw at PTC and WCC, I can see that the waitstaff might assume that if you're there, you want to participate.

If I had a shy person in my group, child or adult, that I knew would be upset by the attention, I'd talk to the server at the beginning of the meal and let them know that. Even if I had to get up and talk to the server away from the table.

I wish PTC and WCC would set aside some tables for groups that don't want to participate in the antics.

The waiter did that to me, too. Made the spoon fly like an airplane, like you do with babies. I indicated that I wasn't going to eat them, but he wouldn't stop.

I think if you know there are people in your group who would be uncomfortable getting picked on by the waiters, you should consider choosing a different restaurant. There's no point in having someone get upset just so that the rest of you can eat there.

And to the OP (and anyone else who plans to eat there) - go in the restroom and wash your hands before going into the restaurant. That will be one less thing for them to give you a hard time about.

50's PT is one of our favorite restaurants. We play along with the servers. Their green beans are awful, so we always ask for corn. That way our plates are always clean.

When our party of 4 (2a 2c) went in September there were no antics at all We had a great table w/ the tv, but our waitress didn't do anything at all, nor did we notice anything funny or unusual going on around us. I guess it just depends on when you go, it was lunch during free dining when we were there. It was packed - I'm sure they were just trying to get tables in and out. The food was good though!

Our server, sister Sara was good. She knew that we wouldn't enjoy the antics. When I ordered my meal I changed all the items it came with that I didn't like to ones I liked-ex french fries instead of mashed potatoes and corn instead of greens. I forgot my niece's came with the green beans so I just took them off the plate (bowl) and said she wouldn't eat them. My niece would probably have gagged if I/server made her try them.

We did see a boy at another table get an airplane full of green beans. We also saw another table wearing napkins on their heads.
