On my lunch break last week, I went to the Goodwill down the road to hopefully find a jacket for my daughter who's been trying to stretch out the use of her fall jacket WAY too long. No luck there, but I *did* manage to find 4 absolutely lovely sweaters for her, one with tags on and one that looked brand-spankin' new, and they ended up costing me less than $20. :cool1: I was SO excited, couldn't wait to take 'em home and show her. As I drove home, I started to consider what her reaction might be to the fact that they came from a thrift store. I'd bought her things there before, when she was a lot younger and didn't care where they came from, but she's about to turn 13, and has this "pseudo-boyfriend" thing going on. I thought maybe I wouldn't tell her.

Well. I brought 'em home, she absolutely LOVED them and they look SO lovely on her! I was very impressed with my shopping prowess, and of course blurted out "you can't even tell they've been worn!" She looks at me funny, and I explained where they came from and how much I paid. Well, she was just SO impressed, she said "Mom, these are awesome and cheap, how much better could they be!??!"

That kid is always surprising me! Maybe it won't be so hard to save up for our trip, after all! :)

What a great kid! Most girls her age might be "grossed out" by the fact it came from a thrift sotre. We go to our thrift store every couple of weeks. We never seem to have your luck.

It's always so nice when kids surprise you in a good way and really "get it" :thumbsup2

My dd is 11yr and loves it when I get good buys at the good wiil, last friday and found 6 limted sweaters all in different colors all for $10.

never heard this term = please define
I too have a 13 yr old DD

:lmao: My DD13 actually begs me to go to our local Salvation Army store, because wednesdays are half price days and she knows that I will never tell her no about anything there. We love searching for nice clothes and we almost always have a big bag full for under $20

I bought my DS8 a brand new Steelers coat (heavy winter) there last fall it was marked $16 and half price $8 I put it away for him for christmas and he was so excited when he opened it, because he wanted one so bad and I couldn't afford it. He put it on today and I won't have to buy him a coat this year either because it still fits him great and still looks brand new.:woohoo:

My girls love Thrift shopping, unfortunately our Goodwill and Thrift shops don't usually have great stuff. It doesn't stop us from checking it out though and occasionally we will find something great! :) Isn't it the BEST feeling when they "get it"?

The goodwill is across the street from our house so I frequent it often. I have found some great things there. People can't believe that I got them for GW. I bougth my DH a Nautica fall jacket, practicall brand new. He was complaing he didn't have one. Well I hung it up on the coat rack and he found it. He asked where I got it from. I told him I had bought it last year end of season on sale. He has no idea.

I love the thrift store. :thumbsup2 We have some excellent ones here and my two boys love to go. However, my DH has bad trauma from his grandma buying him clothes at the thriftstore when he was growing up. So I have to be careful when showing him my thriftstore deals.

I tease her constantly about her *air quotes* boyfriend. He's a really nice kid who lives at the other end of our road, and the two of them have hit it off famously ever since we moved here a few months ago. THey're pretty much inseperable, and have taken to "holding hands" in the bus on the way to school, since my daughter, skinny Minnie, always has cold hands, gloves or no. She's a VERY responsible kid for her age (well, maybe it's just inherited paranoia, since I was an extremely protective parent and still am!) and this kid so far has my approval. She knows (and he does) that they are WAY to young to be *really* dating, but what they have at this point is awfully cute, and it's fun to watch their "relationship" developing, painfully (and thankfully) slowly. :)

So, he's not *really* her boyfriend, just kinda sorta like each other type thing. Hence, Pseudo-boyfriend :goodvibes

when i was 13 the salvation army was the cool place to shop. they were cheap and they had awesome clothing. we used to go to various ones just to see what we could find.

there's a huge one by us now, but trying to get out of the parking lot is a mess. i always want to go, but don't want to deal with the hassle.

We also LOVE our Goodwill!!!!! My 3 DD's always ask to go there!! What's really funny is when we see things that we have donated there in the store! DD7 thinks that is hilarious!:rotfl2:

something is telling me that your apple didnt fall too far from the tree :lovestruc

isnt the best feeling when you realize that your raising such a great human being...makes me cry everytime :lovestruc

Second hand Consignment shops are also great options. DDs9 and 6 love it when we go "shopping' We head to this store... they know that we may beable to find one of a kind outfits for much less and than beable to 'accompany' that w/a piece from a nice store. DS17 loves ABercrombie/Hollister/AE.... he works and buys his own clothes which is fine with me... but he stills loves to go to the thirft stores for those great buys!

My 17 yr old loves going to Goodwill, Plato's Closet etc

over the years we have found some terrific bargains including all of her homecoming dresses, prom dress, leather bomber jacket etc etc etc
