OK, we had scheduled our January vacation for the Poly concierge....where we always stary. My DD(16 yrs old) is spoiled with being so close to MK. Then we decided to buy into OKW. She is already spitting nails.

Then she finds out that the MK won't have any late nights while we are there. (We will just miss it.) So that is strike 2.

I don't have the nerve to tell her that I just found out tonight that her favorite ride, Splash Mountain will be closed while we are there. This will put her over the edge. She is already convinced that OKW is going to be disaster and a BIG disapointment. I'm in BIG TROUBLE!!!!!! :rolleyes1

You said it, not us! - but seriously, at sixteen, she should be able to be reasoned with (unless she has special needs of course). If she doesn't want to go, then leave her at home with a trusted family member or friend. Sorry this sounds alittle harsh, but what else can you do?

Give her some cash, put her on a boat ,and tell her to do some shopping at DTD .She will be fine.

The only special needs she has is daddy's money!!!! The whole family is going, my four, SIL, 2 grandkids so she HAS to suck it up and go.

Maybe the shopping will entice her. She does love to spend money!!!

Goodness ... if a 16yo is "spitting nails" over getting a PAID FOR VACATION, I think that child needs to stay at home and experience what it's like to NOT go on vacation! My 14yo always says, "I don't care where we stay, I just want to GO!!" Now THAT'S the attitude I want to hear! ;)

Wow --

I grew up in a large family , we did not do vacations.

I feel so lucky to own DVC - OKW !

How about a reminder about how privileged she is to be going to Disney at all? The convenience of MK to Poly vs. OKW pales in comparison to the fact that a large number people do not have the resource to experience either option, or to visit WDW at all.

As to items 2 and 3, they are outside your control; if she gets upset with you about that, I'd definitely run through the "if you get upset about everything that you cannot change or that does not go your way, you will lead a very unhappy life" talk. It has not worked well with my DD yet, but she was only 8 the last time I tried it.

I do feel a bit lucky .

I thought my DD12 would be spoiled by the 2 bdrm we stayed in June.

So we are going in DEC ( SSR studio) and a quick trip in Oct on an AP discount . So I tell her 3 days at any Mod or 4 days at a Value. She popped right back with well if it's 4 days POP will be just fine or any of the others.

C'mon and give the OP a break! She was just exaggerating tongue-in-cheek to tell her story. She's excited and just closed yesterday on her contract.
Welcome home !!!!

Your DD will love OKW :).

Thanks for the support Robinb....we actually closed in August so she has had time to prepare for this. And....I am VERY excited, I guess a little aprehensive because we do usually stay at the Poly, we've never seen OKW, so I'm hoping that it doesn't prove me wrong. Our family is growing and it was more economical for us to find a place where everyone can go without it costing us an arm and a leg. If it was just the 3 of us, then it would be different.

I do have to admit that the other posters are a little correct too! We do keep telling her that she is lucky that she goes every year, sometimes 2 times in a year. But, this is the last of 4 kids, and she is spoiled! She went to Paris this summer and got a new car while she was gone.....so, I guess a lot of her attitude is our fault and yes, she doesn't know what it feels like to "not have".

I think she will really like OKW!!

There are lots of things for her to do there, and the staff is great and Im sure she will make new friends.
There is a movie theater and Virgin megastore at DTD. I agree, give her some money and let her go buy some CD's (or download something or whatever it is they do!) :rotfl:

Have a great trip, and I bet she will be the perfect princess once she crosses under that Big Mickey Sign! :wizard:

I'm hoping that being close to DTD will help the mood. Now that her older bros and sis are doing the PI thing, mabye she'll feel a little more grown up. If not, I'll make her babysit the grandkids and WE'LL all go out!!!

Wait till she sees the room size at OKW!! It may not be close to MK, but being able to spread out all of her stuff and stake her own area may be a huge plus to her. :) And as others have noted DTD is a boat ride away which for a 16yo I would think would be really cool. :)

Anyway so how long is SM closed? That is my favorite ride too and we go in Feb. Do you know if it will be up and running then? Thanks.

It closes Jan2 (the day we get there) and I think it reopens on Jan 27. You should be ok. We'll be back next Novemeber, so we'll have to wait until then. :sad2:

Thanks chorlick for the info! I'm excited to hear SM will be open for when we are there! :)

I love SMalso. I hate to hear it will be closed but, just remember, since you now own at OKW, you'll be going back to WDW sooner than later!!

PS when we were there in January last year, we rode it. But in Feb. we didn;t because it was too darn cold!

Space Mountain closes every January for maintenance. It should be open in February. At least that is what happened in the past.

Enjoy your vacation.

Sounds like my DD! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

But after this trip..............

She  Disney again!

We were getting off Pirates when she spotted a member from her FAV Group!

:cloud9: she was on! Took her pic with him! and she can't wait for their concert here in October!

She can't wait to get back! Just in case! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Magical Moments do Happen!

WELCOME HOME!
