I thought it was safe to post this here after seeing others have posted their proposal stories!

Jason and I were expecting to go on the Disney Cruise aboard the Disney Magic for a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise (board the ship on Saturday, 2 days at sea Sunday and Monday, St. Maarten and St. Thomas Tuesday and Wednesday, another day at sea Thursday and Friday was a day at Disney's Island, Castaway Cay) from March 15th-22nd. The cruise wasn't a surprise - we planned for it and counted down the days!

We boarded the ship on Saturday, very excited to finally be on the cruise we were looking forward to, starting a much needed week-long vacation! We were welcomed in the room by a bottle of champagne from my parents. Great way to start the cruise! Then we had our sail away party, dinner, and at 11pm Jason (who works for Disney) had a presentation to the crew members about the Pirates of the Caribbean updates at the Magic Kingdom (the ride not the movie, though they're related) and everyone loved it, as usual. Then off to bed...this brought us to day 2.

It was a most enjoyable day, Sunday, March 16th. We had reservations for an 11:30am brunch at the ship's adult-only restaurant, called Palo, which was DELICIOUS! Then we just hung out at the pool most of the day and enjoyed the ship's amenities. Sunday night was formal night so we headed to the room to shower and change, to be ready at 6pm to go downstairs to the ship's Walt Disney Theater to see the evening's "Golden Mickey's" show (it's a show in the spirit of the Oscars, with a red-carpet "pre-show" and a story based on Disney's award-winning movies and shows that they act out scenes from. It's cute, I suppose!). I had an idea Jason was going to propose this evening so I played along with the oddities of the situation. Jason seemed nervous and he was frantically looking around the area for the Cruise Director, named Christian, who was supposed to interview him on the red carpet about his presentations he was doing on the ship for the guests (this was why we actually went on the ship in the first place - Jason's awesome presentations for the guests!) This was all to "throw me" and hide the true intent of the interview.

The red carpet camera is streaming a live feed into the theater (which we couldn't see, naturally, because we were outside the theater) onto 2 large screens that are on either side of the stage. So anything being "filmed" outside is essentially entertainment to the guests inside the theater waiting for the show to start. (No, for legal reasons the red carpet camera isn't actually recording anything, just doing a live feed...but if you know anyone that taped it please let me know! (I posted that in the DCL forum too. You never know.)

Back to Jason being interviewed...so Christian introduced Jason on camera, saying he was a guest speaker and a Walt Disney Imagineer and he was on the ship to give two presentations for the guests, one on Pirates of the Caribbean the other on the Haunted Mansion. Then, Jason being an Imagineer, Christian asked him if he could share the secret to making dreams come true? Jason, being funny, said something about him being under a strict confidentiality agreement and as a result he wasn't allowed to share any of that information. Then he said, "...but in life the secret to making dreams come true is finding that one special person who can share your life and help make your dreams come true."

At this point Christian calls me over to join the conversation saying something to the extent of "Jason, your girlfriend's over there, right? Mikkel, come on over and join us!" (I was just off to the side, not in the camera's view). So I put down my handbag and my glass of wine and my pashmina I was wearing and walked on over to them.

Here I am walking over, saying hi to Christian with Jason in between:

Honestly it was a little bit of a blur from then. I think Christian asked me a question and I answered but I can't remember. It happened very quickly from there but from what Jason told me the rest of the situation played out something like this:
I went over to join them, Christian asked me something and I answered, then Jason pulled out a box from the camera bag he had with him (which he brought simply to put the box in, because he didn't want an obvious bulge in his suit jacket that would've given it away). (It was actually a tiny replica of the treasure chest that the character Davy Jones has in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, if you are a fan.) Jason said, "According to Disney legend, Davy Jones kept his heart locked up in a chest as a symbol for his eternal love for the sea goddess, Calypso. Now my heart obviously couldn't fit in this chest, and quite frankly I didn't want to deal with the mess, but this chest does contain a symbol of my eternal love for you." Then he got down on one knee...(photos:)

and opened the box/treasure chest to reveal the ring...(photo:)

and said, "Mikkel, I love you very much and I'd like to spend the rest of our lives making our dreams come true together. Will you marry me?" (Isn't he romantic?)

Of course I was blushing and took the ring from the box and said yes. Jason got up, we hugged, we kissed, yada yada yada. (Photos:)

Jason made sure there was a photographer there to capture the whole thing (good man!) because he knew that having pictures of the event was really important to me so the photographer snapped a few photos and we proceeded into the theater. (Photos:)

The red carpet event clearly ran a little later than scheduled so whereas Jason hoped we'd proceed into the theater and everyone who just saw the whole proposal on the 2 screens would applaud and congratulate us, adding to the "hoopla" of the event, that never happened because of the timing. Oh well...so we sat down to watch the show, "The Golden Mickey's," but decided we'd rather go up to Deck 9 and sit outside talk instead. We have both seen the show anyway - same old show, nothing changes. About 45 minutes or so later we decided to go downstairs to have some professional photos taken (this stuff is set up nightly on cruise ships, it wasn't like we needed to make an appointment for a photo sitting or anything). So it was fun to have people recognize us, while we were waiting for the photos in line, that had seen everything happen on the screen in the theater and congratulate us. It was the effect Jason was going for when we walked into the theater that didn't come to fruition so we were happy to receive the well wishes from people on the ship. It truly added to our excitement. We have some great professional photos of the evening, some of which I've posted below.

The proposal was "Act I" of a three-act evening Jason planned. He made us reservations for dinner at Palo that evening for 8:30pm. We enjoyed a delicious meal together and the pastry chef even decorated a plate for us with chocolate that said "Congratulation!" (I didn't forget the "s" - the pastry chef did, probably because English isn't his first language...it was cute!). (Photo:)

So that was "Act II" and then we went back to our stateroom. I was SHOCKED to open the door to find that Jason had arranged for a dozen long-stem red roses, rose petals in the shape of a heart on the bed and champagne to be in the room. The entertainment division of Disney Cruise Line (who Jason works for on the ship) even sent us a lovely plate of chocolate-covered strawberries and a nice cheese platter. And our stateroom Hostess (housekeeping) made three towel origami swans she put on our bed. It was all very romantic and looked fantastic. (Photos:)

It really made my evening, even moreso because I was totally not expecting it. So that was "Act III". Jason even proposed to me again in a quiet, more "between the two of us" private way on the balcony (at my request...) because I had been sad I didn't quite remember the whole thing in front of the theater.

Side note: It probably sounds silly to anyone who either remembers their proposal moment quite well or anyone that hasn't been proposed to but the truth is, I think for most people, it's a moment that really does flash before your eyes then when it's over you think, "Wait, can we do that again? What just happened? I've waited my whole life for that and it's done!?" (which was all the more reason for me to be thankful Jason planned an entire special evening, not just one moment).

Back to him proposing again on the balcony...so this time I was thoughtful about where I stood and that we were both looking into each other's eyes, and he was less nervous and I was carefully listening to every word he said, and he said another speech that made me cry and of course I said yes again and we hugged and kissed and were thrilled, once again, to be engaged! Like I said, the moment walking into the room made my night and him proposing again on the balcony really seemed like it was a moment just for us (whereas the theater proposal was a bit more public) and was incredibly special to me. I can't thank Jason enough for putting up with my silly requests sometimes. He really is amazing and I hope he knows (so I have been repeatedly telling him!) how important and special that moment was on our balcony and how I'll never forget it or everything he planned to make it an unforgettable occasion for us.

So that was pretty much it! We were so lucky to be able to enjoy being together away from the world, celebrating our engagement, just us, for 5 more days on the ship. Periodically, throughout the rest of the cruise, more people would come up to us to congratulate us!

Thank you for reading the Mikkel & Jason engagement NOVEL!!

Congratulations Mikkel! :)

Jason sounds like a very romantic man - lots and lots of detail went into your proposal!

Have you set a date? Are you having a Disney wedding?

I love all the photos - you are a very attractive looking couple!

Aw, thanks Pam!

We are looking into a Disney wedding! I called DFTW Monday so I've been anxiously awaiting a return phone call today (or tomorrow at the latest) about DCL wedding possibilities. Jason and I met with someone late last year (yes, before we were engaged) about possibilities for a WDW world wedding but we love the cruise line so much we're looking into that now! No date is set yet. We'd like to get married sooner than later but that will be dependent upon what we're looking at for a grand total cost of the wedding and what funds we have available...or how fast we can save x-amount of dollars! :rotfl:

Congratulations, Mikkel! I am so happy that Jason put so much thought into making the entire evening special for you. And what a darling for him to propose again in private! I just LOVE to hear about the romance and always wish for a newly engaged couple that they have a lifetime of romance. It is a blessing to count every day! And I really, really hope you find someone who taped that Golden Mickey's red carpet show! pixiedust:

Thank you so much! And no luck yet on finding someone who recording it but I haven't given up hope yet!

I totally and completely agree!! My DF didn't hear me say yes, and I didn't hear him ask!! He made me say yes later that night, but he wouldn't ask me again (he told me he didn't want to give me the opportunity to change my mind!!)
CONGRATULATIONS AND HAPPY PLANNING!!!!
(PS See you at Ohana!)

Hahaha - too funny! LOL....
AWESOME that you'll be at Ohana! I'm so excited!

That's an awesome proposal story!! I was on a cruise with my family a few years ago, and my father is a travel agent. One of the cabins that he had traveling with us was a couple. The guy wanted to propose to his girlfriend and told my dad about it and asked what he could do for him, and my dad said he'd talk to the cruise director. My father did talk to her, and so he ended up proposing in front of the cameras at THE GOLDEN MICKEYS too!!!

So glad to hear of another couple that this happened to.

By the way... That couple is now happily married. Hope that that will have the same luck for you. I don't hope, I mean... I know!!

AWE! What a great Proposal Story!!!!!! It was so sweet! Lets see the ring!

Congratulations! No wonder the man is a Imagineer! :) He made a fairytale for you come true!

You're right - he's great at presentations. I've seen him speak at several Disney events. You're a lucky girl! Can't wait to hear more about the plans!

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

Thank you! We saw someone from the theater afterwards (a few days later on the cruise actually) who said she was crying when she saw. I laughed and said I was glad she was romanced...but I wasn't even crying! LOL. I guess that's because I knew it was coming and was a bit embarassed. But overall it took a lot of planning (the whole night he prepared) and I appreciated it. I cried later on when he proposed again on our private balcony!

How romantic.... Have you set a date? Did I miss that in the previous posts? Congratulations!!!!!! He sounds like a great catch,

I just realized, I have a couple of books written by your fiance. I also went to one of his interview/meet and greets about 5 years ago for Doombuggies.com. I have some posters from the Haunted Mansion movie and books signed by him. I really enjoyed listening to his experiences.

Congratulations!
