my daughter the cheerleader

Great News! I remember going through that angst with my DD. She'll have so much fun--what a great way to begin her hs career!:Pinkbounc

Congrats! What an exciting time. Did she take cheerleading and tumbling classes when she was younger? My daughter wants to be a cheerleader when she grows up so I'm wondering what to do to prepare her.

she took gymnastics for a few years when she was little, she takes a lot of dance, and she was on the middle school cheerleading team.

Congratulations to your DD!!:D

Congrats to your DD!:cheer2:

We'll have to compare notes. My DD made her HS squad this year too. I have to admit I was a little surprised when I went to the first parent/booster meeting and found out how much it was going to cost.

I'm used to the constant cash outflow with competitive gymnastics - just didn't realize it would be the same for school sponsored sports.

I've laready found out that even though she gets a uniform from the school, she has to pay for certain accessories -- sneakers, lollies, stuff like that. and then there's $100 for "cheer camp" in mid august.

and if she winds up on the competition squad, there's the cost of trips.

Hey, at least she gets the uniform supplied.
Our girls are doing two camps - one locally - which is not too bad, but the CA. camp is going to be pretty pricey.
We even have to pay a fee for the use of school facilities for practices - what is up with that?!
Sorry, I'm still reeling just a little from the $500+ check I had to write to get her started.

I shouldn't sound so negative - I'm actually very glad DD made the squad and I think it will be really good for her. Most of the girls who made it this year are repeat cheerleaders, so their parents must think it was worth it to let them do it again.

Congratulations :cheer2: :cheer2: DD is going to be a sophomore and this will be her 2nd year on the Varsity squad. Keep you checkbook handy, the start up costs are a bit high. The uniform is supplied by the school, but there are lots of extras to go with it. Once they get going the expenses level off. $100.00 for camp is a bargain! Are they staying at the camp or is it local? Last year camp for DD was $325.00. It was held at a beautiful water park resort in Wisconsin Dells. This year they have not chosen a camp yet, but they are all at least $250.00. It is worth it though, they learn so much and it is a great bonding experience for the squad. Last year DD was a bit hesitant because she was the only freshman that made the squad but she loved camp. Enjoy the games. We especially like the football games. Keep us posted on how the year goes. Us cheer moms have to stick together!

Congratulations to your DD. Cheering is such an exciting 'sport' nowadays..........a far cry from when I was one!!!

I have 3 DD's into allstar cheerleading. They LOVE it and it keeps them busy and physically fit!!!

the camp is local, and it's only for a few hours a day.

but I can see where things are going...
