My daughter just gave me back the magic!

Hi all! I have been thinking about posting, asking you all for help with getting some magic. We have a Thanksgiving trip planned and I was having a really hard time getting excited. I am a worrier, and I have been fearing bad weather (we drive). Also feeling cranky that the trip is too short (6 or 7 nights) and we are only staying in a studio room. In general, just not feeling the usual anticipation.

So this morning I was getting my daughter ready for school, and she started talking Disney. Erin wanted me to remind her when we were going back. I mentioned Thanksgiving and she was SO excited, talking about all we would do and see. She is 9, so she has a good recall of events and places. She said something like "I LOVE Disney World and I don't CARE that it takes 2 days to drive there, I would go EVERY DAY if I could... WHO could ever get tired of Disney World?" She started talking about the Wilderness Lodge, and the ducks at Old Key West, and all the swimming, all the great memories. I started grinning and hugged her and told her I loved her, and of course I have my magic back and I am ready to start planning our November trip!

See you at WDW!

That is sooooo sweet! Out of the mouth's of babes! :) Your DD sounds so sweet...my DD will be 10 on Monday and she helps to keep me straight sometimes too. I'm excited for you guys that you get to make a trip for Thanksgiving!! I really want to go down during Vetern's Day weekend, but there is nothing available. DH put us on the wait list so I hope it comes through!

Enjoy your sweet girl...they grow up to fast, don't they!?;)

Colleen,

I have a 9 yo DD, too. She did the same thing this week. She said they were brainstorming in class about favorite places they liked to go and why. She said her favorite place was Old Key West and that she loved seeing the bunnies outside of our balcony and also hearing the "Welcome Home" from the guard at the gate.

I was so amazed that she said the "welcome home" thing. I don't think I've ever mentioned it to her (from the DIS discussions), but she picked up on it.

It's great when our kids can give us back some of the magic. We must be training them right, hee! hee!

My three year old niece has trouble with the concept of time so she was at Mickey's House yesterday, and she's going back tomorrow. She doesn't have a problem with remembering what she did there, much to the chagrin of my brother in law at times. :)

We have the 2'x3' photograph of her and Cinderella hanging on the wall to remind us just how great that trip was. I have a smaller version at my desk to help take my mind off stupid Windows viruses and of course, these boards help too! :)

There are times my wife thinks I'm a maniac for Disney. "Your obsessed!" Usually when this is breaking out the DDs will start defending me and telling her how special it is. Talk about melting ice!
These kids are precious. I never forget the looks on their faces and ours too when we see an attraction we've seen a hundred times, or watch the lake catch fir at Fantasmic, or listen to a friend comment how lucky we are to go to WDW all the time. Nothing else seems to get that reaction. It is truly one of a kind.

Thanks for reminding us!

Just last night my 3 1/2 year old son was talking with his aunt, she was telling him how much fun we were going to have at WDW in November, all he could talk about is he wanted to go back to Mickeys Beach House and play on Captain Hooks Ship!!!! The heck with everything else, that was where he wanted to go!!

Don't you love those great memories and moments?

We were at a funeral last Saturday for my brother's father-in-law. Somehow we got on the subject of great ice cream places (my brother was trying to get a smile out of his mother-in-law) and all the kids started telling her about Beaches and Cream and the "Kitchen Sink". They told her about their experiences with it and how much fun it was. She smiled. Then my oldest daughter (the 23-year-old) said I just love it when mom, dad, and all the family do stuff together at Disneyworld. I had to turn my back because I had tears in my eyes. Great memories with the people you love are priceless.

I am also glad I am raising little "Disney Obsessives" because they DO join my side against Daddy, who thinks we just go too often. This morning when Erin and I were talking about it, she said "Well I am just going to tell Daddy we want to go a LOT..." Then she said "If he doesn't want to go he must be... a lunatic!" Then she got real nervous and said "Mom, is that a bad word?" It was so funny. I said no, it meant "crazy person" and we agreed that anyone who doesn't love Disney World MUST be a lunatic! My poor husband has NO chance of winning the "we go too much" argument! It's three against one...

We're saving points for a big family trip to VWL next year and weren't going to Disney this summer. My DH was sad to miss a year but I assured him next year would be soon enough (we went in 2000, 01 and 02!). Then my DS, who is 3, started saying every night at bedtime "I want to go to Mickey's House". I assumed that DH put him up to it - but he didn't. After a week or two of hearing my precious three year old talk about his little memories of WDW - I caved! We did the fairytale package and went for a week in July. I guess to some it seems as though my kids are spoiled - but to us - we're giving them a lifetime of memories and how do you say "no" to that?

My kids always talk about the ducks at OKW too when we talk about our trips to WDW. They love watching them in the morning right outside the balcony. I think they get as much enjoyment from that as they do in the parks!!

Our 2 year old decided she needed to start looking at our trip pictures from out trip in 2001 it was her first trip down and she was only 8 months old. She told us she can't wait to go back and sit with Ariel at her house. She is now just a bundle of excitement for our trip this Dec she has the trip books out every day and we have to watch all the Disney sing along songs that were shot at WDW. They just got some fish and named one of them Mishu after the dragon from Mulan kids are so wonderfull and it is even better when they share our mania for the mouse and his house.

I stopped in Walgreens (a drug store) last night to buy a Disney Peter Pan snow globe (a Hallmark special for $14.99 if you buy three cards). The lady that worked there found the snow globes for me and then took one out of the box. As she was holding it in her hands, she smiled and said, you know, my grandson absolutely loved this ride at Disneyworld. She said he was five. And then she said, funny thing, I've got another grandson who is three who I thought would be too little to care about going to DIsneyworld yet. And all he tells me is, me maw, you havvvvve to take me to Disneyworld next - it's my turn! I go too! She didn't even know that Disney had resorts on property. I gave her some web site addresses that she wrote down for research and she said she's got a trip promised to a three-year-old little boy.

We go almost every year and can't wait until next month. My son is 25 and my daughter is 29. They told me they couldn't wait to go to WDW. We are also raising our son-in-law right. He is a disney fan now, also. It is so wonderful to have family trips to look forward too. They can go on even after the children are adults.

My father just passed away last week-end, but I have my picture of him and my mom with Mickey Mouse. There is also a video, which I cannot bring myself to watch just yet, but it will be wonderful to remember the great time we all had when we were at Disneyworld, together.

leanne2255, I am lucky enough to still have both my parents. I often think about the wonderful memories we are making for MY kids, because I remember doing Disney as a kid with Mom and Dad and now we are all there with my two children.

My sympathy on the loss of your Dad. Hoping the memories comfort you!

Colleen

I also have fond memories of family times with our Mother. She loved our DVC trips and now I have those memories to see me through. I am so sorry for you loss. May God bless your family. I know one day you really treasure those pictures and the video.

Merilyn, Colleen,

Thank you so much for your thoughts and wishes! They are very comforting at this time.
