My Dad was married when his youngest sister, Jeannette was born. He is the oldest of 14, she is the youngest. He was 23.

When she was 13 and began to be too much for their Mom, my parents took her in. She was a country girl from North Carolina, now being brought up in the mean streets of Brooklyn, New York. It was a big change for her but my parents loved and cherished her like she was their own.

I was born when she was 14. To me, she is and will always be my sister, not my aunt.

Well, many years later, Jeannette has been married and divorced 5 times and has three incredible grown children and a year from retirement when she finds out my Mom is ill. My Mom was MORE than a mother to her. Jeannette cherished the very ground she walked on. She flew from New York to be by her side till she died.

At her funeral, my Dad, now 83 and in a nursing home, took her hand and told her he wanted her to come down and take care of her.

This past Thursday he got his wish. My aunt retired early to come down and do for her brother what he did for her 47 years ago....

She told me "your Dad took care of all of us, it's time we took care of him."

He is now reaping what he sowed.

What a heart warming story Robin. I truely believe that you indeed reap what you sow, karma, what goes around comes around, fate, etc.

Your Dad is blessed!

Nice people reap what that sow, Robin, how very nice. Thanks for sharing, my best to your dad.

This was so wonderful to read, Robin. I'm so glad his sister will be with him everyday :)

Robin, How sweet! It has to be a big relief to you knowing he is in such loving care!

That is absolutely wonderful to hear this. Thank you so much for sharing that story!

Robin, you have a special family. Thank you for sharing that with us.

I fully expected to read some like "my dad was bad or mean and now he's getting what he deserved". How absolutely wonderful to read what I just read. You hear the news and it's all bad, people tell you about their life and it's all bad, I could go on forever but ya'll know what I mean.

Robin, thank you, thank you, thank you for reminding us that there are good special people out there. Your family has blessed us today with some "bright" sunshine.

You have a wonderful family, Robin. Reminds me of one of my favorite sayings:

"Nothing you do for a child is ever wasted."
- Garrison Keillor

amen to that markshaw!!

I never thought that it could've been thought of like that but, yes, there are lots of people who reap what they sow in that way!

I just wanted to add that my aunt has really had a roller coaster of a life, all of which my parents stuck with her through. She was an alcoholic, she was in and out of relationships, and has survived colon cancer. Though lots of people had lots of things to say about her my parents stuck by her through thick and thin. Like my Mom always said "Jeannette may have her problems but she'll give you the shirt off her back..."

She spent 33 years as a house mother to wayward teenaged girls in New York. She's been threatened, spit at and called every name in the book but she loved doing what she did. Now she has dedicated her life to making the life of a man who dedicated his life to his family a happy one. What goes around, comes around.

And yes, all of his daughters can now breathe a much needed sigh of relief because my Dad is in good and loving hands!:D
