I have a D in college. Yesterday she called me in tears as her ipod touch was stolen. I guess she left it for a minute by mistake and went back and it was gone. She even knows who stole it, he just smirked at her when she asked him about it.

She is devastated. She loved it and even called it her best friend! lol She can't afford to replace it. So we will be getting her one for xmas. Oh well.

Where is the best place to buy an ipod touch and what is the best price for one. Also I only see an 8gb and 32gb touch. They don't make a 16gb anymore? I'd like to get a bigger one but don't know if I want to spend an extra 100.

Thank you so much. She is truly upset about this.

Not sure where you live, but I saw them at Costco.
Sorry to hear about your daughter's dilema...I bet she will not leave her new one out of her site!

I would buy a refurbished one from the Apple site. They sell the 16 GB ones there. They are a good deal. Only the insides of the ipod are refurbished. You get a new outside casing, new cables, earbuds, manuals and a new box. No one would ever know it was refurbished. It also comes with the same 1 year warranty as the brand new ones. This is the best way to get an ipod if you don't need the latest generation.

You can get a refurb 16G at apple.com usually reasonably priced. They don't make the 16G anymore which is why you can't find it any other place. I have heard many good things about refurbished products from apple, and if I were wanting to get a better deal or one specific item would not hesitate to buy refurbished.... That being said, I got a good deal on Black Friday from amazon.com on a 32G, free shipping, no tax. You might just watch there every day and see if the price drops. Good luck!

MacMall (we got the 32 mg for $263.00 with rebates for free items) or the Apple site for a refurbished one are probably the best prices.

She should report it stolen with campus security and provide the info on who she thinks stole it. It may never turn up but security will pay attention to the sticky fingered student.

Call the police, especially if she knows who took it!!! Does she know the serial number and/or have it registered to her? It should be pretty easy to prove it's hers if she does.

I bought my iPod directly from Apple.
You can get engraving on the back for free.

I engraved my e-mail address. If someone finds it, they can contact me.

Hopefully she did register it. This is a great idea.

Is there some way (probably too late) that she can register it as stolen with iTunes? That way, when the guy tries to change it to his account, it won't let him.

this is a great idea! if she can render it useless to him, he might just give it back.

What a jerk:eek:
I hope you find a good deal. My son bought his at the apple store.

Sorry to hear that! I would definately take some of the above suggestions in terms of reporting it stolen, etc.

Costco does have a good everyday price and some other retailers are offering gift cards with purchase that can effectively lower the price if you shop at that store (like Target)

I am currently in the market for one, and the current rumor "on the street" is that the next generation relase has been move up from fall to this spring. This new one should have a camera and video camera. If she can live without it for a few months she may be able to get some more bells and whistles!

That is just it a rumor, I have been researching the touch for quiet a while and that was the exact rumor that came out right befor the 3rd generation was released. As was posted on the internet by reliable sources such as Cnet.

I am not saying that it is not true but only after it is released will we know for sure.

I watched for the camera or video to come to touch too. I dont think its going to happen anytime soon :( At the last "announcement" maybe a month ago nothing was mentioned. I would just go ahead and get her one and not make her wait for something that might not happen :( I was so disappointed that the new one did not have either.

OP--Since she is in college. I would call her bookstore and find out if they have any deals for institutional/student pricing.

A lot of colleges have registered and you can get discounts either in the bookstore or directly on the apple website.

Also if you are getting it on the website, I'd have something engraved on it--my sister-in-law is in college and very forgetful. She has gotten her Ipod returned to her 3 times by the campus lost and found. I swear if I didn't know her I'd think she had a crush on an employee in the lost and found area???

I forgot about the apple discount for students...go to Apple.com and see what that works out to be. I think you will need her student id.

:thumbsup2
Did she have the serial number? Register it?
