Good morning,
We are doing our research for a possible upcoming cruise in August 2017. I am curious if anyone knows or has used the My Cruise Photos? What is this all about? Prices? Is it worth it? Is this similar to PhotoPass?

Thanks!

Basically this is the site that is used by Shutters - the photography company onboard DCL. Its not really the same as photopass in that they are a seperate company to Disney. What you will find it that unlike in the parks unless there is a CM with the photographer you wont be able to get photos done a the same time or you will need to take them. Whether they are worth the money depends on what you are likely to want photos off. Basically there is a photo as you board you can purchase and then photos at any of the character sessions or with the Captain on a set night. Photos are around $20 per one I believe onboard and you can also purchase the packages once onboard too. I think purchasing in advance you might get a discount but it depends on how many photos you think you are going to do. Unlike photopass you can't view your photos on the website (as far as I'm aware) but there are kiosks in the photo shop onboard where you can view them and they will have printed ones out in folders as well. I personally don't find I like enough of them to actually purchase them but it depends how "photogenic" you are. I HATE PHOTOS so tend to just pick up one or two if they look OK (last time 1 then time before none)

As noted, the photography service onboard is an independent contractor. Just like the photo services at places like Sears, or JC Penneys. Here's the most recent information I have about it:
PHOTOS
Individual prices are:
8X10 - $20.95
6X8 - $14.95

The packages are 6 ($99.95), 10 ($149.95), 15 ($199.95), and 20 ($249.95) photos. Different length cruises have different options. You can also purchase an all prints package (all your photos printed) for the same cost as the length of cruise CD.

The length of cruise CD cost varies with length of cruise. The prices I've seen are (for pre-cruise purchase/onboard cost):
7 night $295.95/$100.00 to add prints/$349.95, $100.00 to add prints;
5 night $249.95/$50.00 to add prints;
4 night $194.95/$75.00 to add prints/$229.95, $75.00 to add prints;
2 night $199.95/$50.00 to add prints

Special CD prices –
14 night $339.95/$100.00 to add prints;
12 night $399.95 or $339.95/$100.00 to add prints

The 6, 10, 15, & 20 photo packages can be either prints or the CD with 6, 10, 15, or 20 photos unlocked for your access once home.

Recent reports have the prices for onboard purchases of the above packages at $50.00 more than the pre-purchase price.

INFORMATION ABOUT WHO CAN BE ON THE CDs (from the MyCruisePhotos.com website):
The following are benefits of your photo package (digital or print):

· When purchasing any size digital photo package, you will take home all the photos seen on your kiosk account and can choose which photos to keep from home.

· Photos of your children aged 21 and under, who may be traveling in a separate stateroom are included.

· Artistic borders and templates as seen on all printed photos are included.

· Digital photos are in a size and resolution that allow for printing up to 8X10.

· “Unlimited” photos means all the photos in your photo kiosk account and/or all the photos prints that YOU collect while adhering to these terms.

The following is not included with your photo package (digital or print):

· Photos of others in your party not staying in your stateroom.

· Group photos, weddings, Quinces and other special occasion photography services.

· Generic stock photos of the ship, characters, ports of call, etc.

· Any special printing or retouching requests.

For larger families traveling together across multiple staterooms, we offer a discount on the Get the Picture! Unlimited discs: Purchase Get the Picture! Unlimited for one stateroom, and the second Get the Picture! Unlimited disc is 50% off the onboard price.

For pre-cruise purchases on MyCruisePhotos.com, you may purchase the first disc online and additional discs can be purchased onboard for 50% off the onboard price.

The passenger manifest will be reviewed for all purchases; the Booking ID must match the purchasing cabins.

Basically there is a photo as you board you can purchase and then photos at any of the character sessions or with the Captain on a set night.

Just to add to this, they also have generic photo shoot backgrounds set up each night. These differ depending on night, but there's usually a plain white background, on formal night a black one, then different backgrounds with things like the ship all lit up, tropical fish, pirate backgrounds etc. On some cruises they have backgrounds relating to the area - eg on the Baltics cruise they might have a Russian looking background etc.

We find these photo shoots make the cost of the package worth it. At home (Australia) we would pay usually around $350 for a photo shoot, and that might include one photo. On the ships I can pay a little more than that for a 7-night cruise, and get digital and print copies of tons of photos, including some beautiful family and individual shots.

And, of course, those beautiful moments where the kids are interacting with the characters, photos from some of the dinners (on a 7-night at least they do formal night, semi-formal night, and pirate night), photos at Castaway Cay with the ship in the background and roving photos on the beach, etc.

If I understand the info on the website as well as what is posted here, you can buy one photo disk at regular price and the rest of the party can buy at 50% off? We are traveling in June and will be in 3 staterooms, so could we buy one at full price and 2 more at 50% off? Also, how do we get everyone in our party added to the three disks?

Well the site says "For larger families traveling together across multiple staterooms, we offer a discount on the Get the Picture! Unlimited discs: Purchase Get the Picture! Unlimited for one stateroom, and the second Get the Picture! Unlimited disc is 50% off the onboard price."

It seems to say a second room can get the full digital photo package for the 50% off. It's not clear whether that means rooms 3, 4, 5, etc will also get it for 50% off. Or if one room has to purchase at full price for each second room 50% off.

I don't think there's any way to get everyone's photos on all three discs generally. Each room will have it's own disc, and any photos taken, with someone from that room in it, will appear on that room's disc. So, if you have 3 people (one from each room) in all photos, that photo will be on all 3 discs.

Also, this system uses facial recognition software...so if you don't see a picture you know you had made, look for it in the unfiled images computers outside of Shutters on the wall. We had over 100 pictures out there. When you buy the everything package...you definitely want all of it.

And yes, they swipe you KTTW card and it does nothing. Its the face software...

You should always check your photos nightly to be sure they have all been included. They do disappear and or end up on other people's disks. It's best to keep in contact with your meet and greet group to see if they turn up on their disks. Some people place a request in social media sites for lost photos from their cruise. I've noticed some have had good luck there finding a few.

Do they offer magic shots ???
I probably should know that buzz word. Does that mean tinker bell on your hand or a fight with cartoon Hook. Yes they have that, maybe more.

On our last cruise I purchased the package and felt it was worth the price. They do take a lot of photos and it is always hard for me to pick and choose which ones to buy. I did end up with another families photos on my disk as well as my own.

I would add, I traveled in 2014 with a couple and somehow ended up included on their photo disc and in their package. Because we had photos together the system linked us (even though we didn't have anything actually linked). I believe though it can only link up to 2 rooms

They used to (I have photos from 5 years ago with Tink and fighting with Hook), but not any more. At least on the Magic and the Wonder. I haven't travelled on the Dream or the Fantasy, but if I had to guess, I would say they don't either.

Any experience with my cruise photos on an Alaskan cruise? Do they take pictures outside on the decks to get pictures with the scenery? Thinking of the 5 night Alaskan cruise and there's not too much information out there yet (that I can find anyway). Thank you!

I have seen photos on the deck posted. I'm still waiting for my date to be listed. I'm less than 10 weeks till we leave.

Wow! We have two staterooms, but, let's face it, there has to be an adult on the reservation along with any kids. So, yeah, I can get a photo disk with my sons on it, but to get one with my husband, I have to buy a second disk? I'll just make sure I'm always in the pictures with him!

We aren't 'character meet and greet' people. I can see us having maybe a couple of pictures done, like formal night, for example, but are they roaming around just taking 'action' shots? Is it like Disney that you have to find the photographer to get pictures taken? How many pictures do you really get for the $299 price? (7 days)

No, if there is a nuclear family member in a different room they can be included in the primary room's CD. Well, at least it works that way when room #1 has Mom/Dad and minor kids in it and room #2 has grandma and additional minor kids (belonging to mom & dad). The child in room 2 can be included in room 1's CD, but not grandma.

I think one year between the four in my family we got something like 130 pictures...it was crazy. Those were meet & greets, formal night, the kids hitting up characters on their own or with new friends, at dinner, and at castaway cay, just to name some off the top of my head. They roam around at castaway cay & sometimes by the pool. Totally worth not wasting our time deciding. Did we get all the pictures taken of us? With that many, I got enough that I didn't notice, or worry, if any were missing.

My daughter and I got 51 pictures on a 4 day cruise. I love pictures and the borders are very unique so I thought the digital images price was worth it. I think the best part was getting the pictures from Castaway Cay that we wouldn't have been able to take ourselves, especially the two of us snorkeling.
