My Crazy Idea: Too Crazy??

I am DYING to go to DLR. I have a trip planned late October, but don't want to wait.

Since I live in SF, I'm seriously thinking of flying down one morning, and flying back that night!

I was thinking Labor Day Monday, since I will buy a Deluxe AP and that day doesn't appear to be blocked.

How busy will it be?

I thought about doing the Welcome to Disneyland tour so I can at least get a few open FPs to ride in the afternoon when things get busy, and I know they do priority seating to Aladdin.

The earliest flight would arrive around 8:30 (SNA) and the latest flight leaves at 7:55. I assume I'd need to leave the park at 5:30 or 6.

What do you guys think? Have I lost my mind??:hyper:

I'm going to have to say yes. I could understand this if your next planned trip was two years away, but two months? You should save all of that money and use it to upgrade your planned trip. In the meantime, think of it less as "dying** to go" and think of it more as "delicious anticipation."

**Please note, if you are literally dying then it may make more sense to accelerate your schedule. But if you only mean that you are very excited, the good news is that you will live and late October will arrive right on time.

Sounds too risky to me. Whenever you fly there is the possibility that your flight might be delayed for a number of reasons. How would you feel if your morning flight was delayed a few hours? That's a lot of missed park time. Seems like too long and stressful of a day to me.

Just a note...

I am not ACTUALLY dying. That I know of. :thumbsup2

Oh, and I don't know how to say this without coming off bad, but money isn't really a concern for me. Time is, so I get what you guys are saying.

I just started a new job, and wont be able to get time off for 90 days. So Labor Day Monday I'm already off...

Would it be possible for you to leave the night before? That would give you a little cushion in case something went wrong and caused a delay.

I'm going to have to say yes.

I would just wait for your already planned trip in October at this point, if it were me. This schedule just sounds like there's a high chance you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I totally understand your feeling about wanting to go NOW, but sometimes, like someone said already, it's better to just enjoy the "anticipation".

Crazy? Yep. Too crazy... maybe.

I would go down that Sunday, and do two days. If you are planning on getting a deluxe ap, and haven't yet, you can buy a one day ticket on Sunday, then upgrade to the AP at the end of the day (or any time during the day, really) so that you can use it on a day that would normally be blocked out.

At the very least, I would go down on Sunday to be able to not have to stress too much about potential flight delays eating into your park time.

The only negative I see is buying your AP for this trip. If your not going back until the end of Oct, you lose 3 months on the back side of your AP. Other than that, this sounds like something I would do. I'm that crazy guy who will take the 3 hour drive just to have a turkey dinner at Flo's.

That weekend is race weekend. It's going to be packed. I'd wait for a slightly less crowded time, personally.

Haha. I heart you, JP.

I've flown to Vegas for one night, so it's not too crazy for me...

Good point about the AP tho

A couple things: NO, it's not a crazy idea. I've done this before during the holidays, and had a great day. The only thing was I didn't want to leave.

Secondly: If money isn't an object, I'd just do a 1-day hopper, but not the tour. You don't need to waste tour time just to get a couple FP's. Hold-off on the AP until your October trip.

It's too bad the flight times are abbreviated due to it being a holiday. Is it really necessary to travel on THIS day?

The date isn't necessary, no. I'd just have to go on a weekend day, because I don't have vacation yet. A Saturday maybe?

Flights are pretty reliable, esp. during the week. SF to LA is essentially a commute line...

I have done it before, and I'm in San Francisco too. However, if possible, stay one night--in order to maximize park time.

October is still 3 months off. Why wait?

Have a magical time!

I say go! Like "Jenna". I've gone to stateline one evening just to ride the roller coaster & then come home, Disney is way more worth it! Yes it's marathon weekend, but I believe the race is on Sunday, & admission is not included with the race, so who knows how many would even still be there. I've gone before on Labor Day, before they had the race, and the crowds were low, because it's a travel home from a long weekend day, so you may just get lucky. You may have to leave a bit earlier to make that 7:55 flight, but some time is better than no time!

When you say "stateline", are you talking about Primm?

I've gone down many times on the earliest flight and flown back the next day on the latest flight. That gave me almost 2 whole park days. I used to stay at Hojo with the Entertainment rate of $59 and split it with my DD, plus we'd book the $48 RT SW flight and use APs so it was a cheap trip and a lot of fun.

I think you should do it although I'd recommend something other than Labor Day. Things cost a bit more now but it's still not that bad, and instead of thinking of it as wasting an AP by buying it early, I'd think of it as maximizing your AP by using it for another trip. You can fly JetBlue or SW for a pretty reasonable rate and there are hotel rates that aren't too bad if you want to stay the night so I say yes to your idea!

I think you are just having a "moment" and are all caught up in it.

Let it sit a few days and see how fired up you are.
Sometimes it's better to anticipate something for a few months and really have something special to look forward to.

I would not find a day like you described as very satisfying. I'd be checking my watch to make sure I was not going to miss my flight home. You will be messed up if the outgoing flight is late. You have no wiggle room for anything.

I wouldn't want any stress involved, and this seems like a lot of stress to me.

Before the races, yes, it's slow. Most people show up on either Thursday or Friday, and stay through Monday or Tuesday. That Monday will be insane - a lot of people treat it as their "last full day in the parks" because it's really hard to get up at 4 in the morning and then last an entire day after running 13 miles *G*

That being said... because you're traveling solo, you can use Single Rider Lines. That ability alone may make the trip worth it :-)

If money isn't a concern (as it would be for many of us), what's stopping you? Even if you don't have "the best day ever", you apparently don't have much to lose. If I were you, I'd definitely go. :wave2:

I'd go all the time, if money were no object! lol
