Disney magazine has the recipe for Honey Coriander chicken wings from O'Hanas.........................I agree with the above poster, get Lilo & Stitch CD, it's one of our all time favorites.

I'm just getting such a chuckle out of reading all these theme party ideas. I always go HUGELY overboard for my children's birthday parties..... I just love theme parties!! Have fun!.........P

This is a great thread. I also enjoy hosting outstanding birthday parties for my kids and probably go over board a bit. But I enjoy it and its their day so it should be special, right?

Last year I made a Luau party supplies purchase at Oriental Trading and for sure got my $$ worth. My 10 yr old daughter and her friends had a blast. Then I used the Luau stuff for a Luau Christmas gathering. It was my turn to plan it, and it was a big hit. Probably because it was so unusual having a Luau in the dead of winter in Canada. 51 Canadians, 5 Americans and 1 Hungarian(Victor)! I kid you not, it was a unique party to say the least.

This summer my daughter is having an oriental sushi party, with creme horns and little debbies cakes cut and choc and carmel sauces for dipping sauces, eaten with chop sticks. Need more ideas on this one coming up in July.

Thanks for the recipes, I'm always looking for something new , exciting and "easy". So these will be great to try!

Good morning from the Delta!

Diana, are you having real sushi for your party? I remember there is a restaurant (California Grill?) that serves mock sushi made from rice crispies and rolled in fruit roll-ups wrap. I'm pretty sure the recipe is on the all ears.net website if you do a search. (I wish someone could explain to me how to do a link post. Everytime I try it ends up disappearing!) I think the desserts and chopsticks are a cute idea, too! There is also a recipe for some kind of wraps with tortillas, cream cheese, and ham which you roll up. You could cut these in small pieces to look like sushi. I had a Family Fun magazine that had some mock sushi recipes, too. I'll look for that. This morning my mind is as thick as the humidity gets here!

I will be making sushi, but mainly for me. My kids won't eat it and my husband is allergic to anything healthy!! But they may like the ham wraps. Thats another good idea.

I was cruising through the Oriental Trading web site but it was on over load every other page, so I'll have to wait and try that again.
But so far I'm ordering (tentatively):
Oriental shirt invitations
red and black chinese fans
take out boxes for treat bags
parasols
red drum type noisemakers
chinese writing bookmarks
kimono type notepads
tissue dragon decoration
red and black lanterns
Kimono keychains
Black and red punch balls

I'm cutting the Little Debbie cakes and cream horns sideways in rolls and serving them on square platters with chopsticks and you know how there's spicy and soy sauces to go along with sushi, well I'm using my Korean dipping sauce bowls for carmel, choc and strawberry or jam sauces to dip the cake in. Sugar, sugar and more sugar!

I'm going to check out the party idea web site now too! Keep those ideas coming (the cheaper the better though OK?!).

Good Morning from CENTRAL MS!! Sweet Maxine - this is GREAT!!! How FUN!!!! You know, if this just gets too much, you are all weclome to join us at our resort on 6/17 - Thursday - for our luau. It's only $12 a person and it's Polynesian. But your's sounds like it's going to be a BLAST!! Any fire jugglers in your party? Heheee.

You could get an Elvis Hawaii cd, or Don Ho, if you wanted to add more "cheese" to your evening. Heee!

I can't believe this thread is still going. I had bumped it up yesterday when I thought about the Pirate themed night. I'm going to look at Party City today during an out of town trip. I hope they have some goodies to inspire me!

My husband is a big Elvis fan, and sometimes envisions himself as Elvis! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Maybe he'll dress up and serenade us with "Blue Hawaii", but he really sings in monotone!!!

I just found out our Pal Mickey for the swap will have a Pirate's patch to wear. Yay!! I'll be sure and take pictures during our pirate night at the cabins!

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. It reminds me of some of the parties I used to throw. I'm not a dessert maker but even I might be able to manage the crockpot cake. I have just one question I haven't seen asked....When's the luau and what time should I show up? I have several strings of flamingo party lights I can bring!

I had one of these growing up, but I don't know if the girls know about them anymore. They are like long pieces of elastic rope, and to play there must be a girl at two ends of the rope. There really are no ends, the rope is one big loop joined together. The girls step inside the loop and step away from each other to make a large open rectangular shape in the middle. The rope holders start with the rope around their ankles and move it up gradually with each successful jump of the jumper (who is the third girl in the open space jumping the rope). I remember we jumped in and out and then on top of the rope, then criss-crossed the rope so it was around our ankles as well. I'm not doing a good job of explaining this, sorry! I just really remember this with fondness, and I could jump almost to hip level of the rope holders! I can picture it in my mind, but I'm afraid the description is not coming out like it should.

CarolynNC, the flamingo lights sound like a hoot and a half!!
We're planning the luau for a Saturday during our trip, and yes I would love to use the flamingo lights. We'll save some extra potstickers and teriyaki for you. Just let me know.

Sweet Maxine! I'm ROLLING!!! DS 9 LOVES Elvis! That's HILLARIOUS that your DH likes to impersonate him - so does DS. I couldn't even imagine where he heard about Elvis, but I think it came from watching Johnny Bravo. Anyway, we've got Elvis cd's updstairs. Want me to look for a Hawaii one? I'm going to have to find some Elvis sunglasses for our Pal Mickey - just for your DH!

Also - let us know what you found at Party City. They've got TONS. This is such a fun thread.

I couldn't get over this place!! Of course, when you first walk in the door...Bam!...there's the luau stuff! It's all over the wall and just too cute!! I wanted to get one of everything, but I held myself back and just bought the tiki lanterns. I also got a really cute pirate table cloth and pirate plates. They're really cute with maps and treasure chests on them, so they'll go with the cake idea nicely, I think. I also got some of the little parasols that sometimes you see in drinks, but these are larger. My daughter was pulling on me to leave, but I just had to keep looking at all this stuff! You can tell I really don't get out of Dodge much!

I really came back with lots of ideas, and now I've got to make room in my packing stuff for all of this. It's late, but I'm still thinking about that giant inflatable palm tree. Too cute!!

Okay, now this has reached new levels in cheesiness!

On my last foray into Big Lots, I found a green hula skirt for $1.99. Now I guess I'll be the designated server/waitress at this little soiree, so of course I'll have to dress accordingly. I also found a yard stake hula girl decoration to put up in front of the cabin, so I guess I'm all set.

Now if Elvis really does come in person to serenade us, I can promise you I'll tell you about that!!

canwegosoon, I'll just pack it all up and send it your way when you're ready! You're right about the planning part. My husband just looks at me now and shakes his head. Little does he know...little does he know.

barbnbrian, we'll be there June 11 through 25, so if you're in the area swing on by! We can take our fake daquiris down to the beach and watch the fireworks and light parade on the water. We don't do alcohol, so fake is about as good as it gets for us. Just something cold and refreshing---that's all it takes!
