My Change of Plans

So I was getting all psyched for this trip in September and I decided that September 8-12 would be the perfect time to go to DL, so I booked HoJo Ent Rate rooms, got the time off work, started looking for flights, etc.

The problem is my DBF. See I'm going with my mom and dad and my DBF doesn't know whether he wants to go to DL or not. I keep asking him and he keeps stalling. I told him I didn't want to go if he didn't want to or thinks he will not have a good time and he responds by telling me he just wants to think about it for a bit (and he agreed that if he does go, he will pay for his own plane ticket, so he can use as much time as he wants as my concern is that flight costs will go up).

So anyway, I told him the dates and he said ok. Well, suddenly when I brought it up again, he started to get concerned about traveling during September 11th. I'm not really that concerned as I spent 9/11/2006 at DL, etc. He also thinks that if we went a week later, it would not be as hot or crowded.

So, he said that if he does decide to go, he would only go September 15-19, so I call HoJo again and book for the 15th-19th, call my parents and let them know, and tomorrow I will call and see if I can get the dates switched for time off from work. Then I want to get my plane tickets as soon as possible to keep the $99 rate.

My question is: do you think he's right? Will it be less hot September 15-19? Will it be less crowded (again  because I went the second week of September in 2006 and it was anything but crowded). I was thinking it may be more crowded due to Halloween decorations and the HM install (although with Thanksgiving when it is, it may not be up). I admit though I'd love to see NMBC HM and it may be worth spending a semi-crowded Friday just to see that (with Fastpass of course).

Thoughts?

This is my opinion, not proven scientific fact, but...

Until now, I have always travelled in September. Everywhere from Labor Day weekend to a trip that lasted into early October. Except for the actual year after September 11th, crowds were pretty much the same every time. The weekends are busy, the weekdays are less crowded, every week of September. Fastpasses are available, but sometimes not even necessary. (Still utilize them, though, because just when you decide to forgo them a crowd of a million bazillion people walks inside in front of you.) Waits for rides are rarely longer than half an hour, at the very outside, except for Nemo ******always take them seriously when they say get there early for Nemo**** which winds around the entire park and becomes a living human windbreak. No, really, the real reason they reopened the submarines was because Disneyland was experiencing gale-force winds. Really! Okay, I'm making things up.

The heat is completely bearable for me, all through September. It was actually a little chilly for swimming last September, but my children insisted anyway. Okay fine, if they want to be blue, who am I to argue?

As for HM, as far as I remember, it hasn't really changed anything except for the day/weekend that it opens. And, of course, weekends are always busier. I don't know what kind of experience your BF has with Disneyland, but it really seems to me that he's being nitpicky.

I would say that if your BF has a problem going 9/11 you are doing him a sweet favor by putting off for another week. My DH also had similar concerns so been there and done that!

Last year we were there 9/3-9/13. It was still pretty hot but if I remember correctly it was a record year. It actually was getting a little cooler towards the end of our trip. I would guess that the later in the month would gradually continue getting a little cooler. On the positive side, warmer weather makes those wet rides that much more fun!

Haunted Mansion was closed last year until the 20th while the holiday overlay was being installed so there is a chance you will miss some of the crowd who will be waiting to attend the reopening for that. There will be decorations but the big Halloween festivites really don't begin until October so you shouldn't be seeing big crowds related to that.

So basically, September is a great time to go! I don't think there is as much of a time that the crowds are non existant simply because there are just always more people attending the park each year. However, speaking from our experience the crowds are totally managable (nothing like summer crowds)and you can still have a fantastic time!

I hope if for some reason your BF decides not to go that you will still go have fun with your parents. I wish my parents were still around to take a trip to DL with me!
