Any central A/C knowledgeable people here? We have the unit with the fan in it outside the house. In the garage there's a heat exchanger (?). The heat exchanger is running but the outside unit with the fan in it isn't and hasn't been for at least 2 hours.

Now we save some money every year by being part of an energy saving plan with the electric company. By being a member, it gives them the right to turn off our high demand appliances when they need the energy for other things. That involved having our a/c off during the 4-6 p.m. hours several times last summer. When it was off a light in an outside box would go on telling us we were being controlled by the electric company.

This time that light isn't on. In fact the light that says they AREN'T controlling our power IS on.

Is there any other reason, besides the obvious, that the unit with the fan would be off while the heat exchanger would still be running? Any other thoughts or suggestions would be welcome too.

Thanks.

You can start by checking to see if a breaker in the electrical panel has been tripped.

Thanks. We did check those but, in the meantime, I think we may have an answer. The panel with the lights on it that tells us whether or not the electric company is controlling things just had all the light go off! That's never happened before. I called the company and can't get through to anyone because of high call volume. I'm hoping the problem is on their end and not ours.

It just came back on!!! :bounce: This must have been something the stupid electric company was doing. Just about gave me a heart attack.

Well alls well here in sunny, HOT Florida.

Glad to hear it is ok now. I had my a/c go off twice last summer for a few days at a time. They finally figured out the problem but we sure did a lot of sweating while it wasn't working.

Its because you were rubbing in the fact that in FL you have central A/C to all us New Englanders the other day. ;)

Beautiful weather here today. No humidity. No a/c needed. Windows wide open!!! :sunny:
