While driivng the 2nd leg of the trip home from the Chicago meet yesterday, my kids were begging to stop at a Cracker Barrel. Now, I love eating at the Cracker Barrel as much as anybody, but with that darned gift shop I dread going in there with my kids
However, they were very good all weekend in that they did not beg and bug me to buy anything while at the mall in Chicago or anywhere else we ventured (amazing!!) so I caved in and promised them each a toy car.
Well, it turns out I was worse than my kids
...they had a lot of Christmas stuff out already and I came across an item I just couldn't resist. (a little history...I'm a closet "mechanical-music" lover....carousel band organ music, piano-roll music, antique music boxes, etc) There was a Mr. Christmas Musical Bell Symphonium that I just fell in love with, and using the "it's my birthday" excuse
I bought myself one

anyway....last night I unpacked it and plugged it in on my table and selected one of the included music discs to play. Soon enough, all three of my cats surrounded my table, meowing! Now, not to jump to conclusions, and knowing my cats as I do, I figured it was because I was standing next to their food bowls that they were simply seizing an opportunity for a handout. I turned off the music and they just walked away
I turned it back on and they came back! They circled the table meowing, yowling, howling, chirping, chortling and making all kinds of noises, every now and then stretching up and placing their front paws on the table for a look! I experimented with several different song discs, all with the same results!
OK, so I'm glad they enjoy the music as I do...but I'm wondering how in the heck I'll be able to enjoy this for what it is in the future without a howling cat accompaniment every time
