Boots, the cat I got in junior high (yeah she's almost 15) is going to the vet's friday for a serious hair loss issue.

she's licking herself to the point of becoming bald. No fleas, (no outdoor animals) no change in litter, no change in food etc...The vet thinks it could be kidney issue's because of her age.

Shes always been a water drinker, but in the last couple of weeks she's been drinking more than ever. Even from the toilet, which she has never done. Even with the water bowl full...

If it is her kidneys i'm not sure what that means. I know she's old, but can they fix kidney issue's??

I don't have any answers, just wishing you good luck on your visit.

one sign of diabetes is drinking a lot of water. Not saying that's what she has, just giving you a little info. Good luck at the vet! :paw: Hang in there, Boots! :cat:

My 8 yr old kitty has licked herself bald from the waist down to the inside of her ankles. She has peach fuzz there. The fur starts to grow in and then all of a sudden it is gone again, and I have a hairball on the floor somewhere. Usually at 5 am on the bottom of my feet. :crazy2: The vet told me that, in her case, it is a minor case of OCD. I was told not to worry about it unless she actually started licking the skin raw.

Hopefully your kitty will have nothing wrong either. :grouphug:

When our cat was drinking water excessively a few weeks ago, it turned out that he had a urinary tract infection. I'm not sure about the fur-licking, though.

As far as the fur is concerned could be OCD or could be allergies.
We see a lot of pets come in with allergy problems this time of year.
A friend of mine has a cat that loses her hair about 4 times a year.
Comes in for a steriod shot and it lasts quite a while.

The excessive drinking could be diabetes. Hopefully not, though.
Good luck with kitty! :paw:

Can she all of a sudden have allergies or OCD? She's 15, and NEVER had this problem before....and like I said- nothing has changed, litters the same, cat foods the same, heck even her catnips the same brand lol...

I have seen the allergies all of a sudden come on in animals.
It doesn't happen all the time, but it can. Like I said, we have had a lot, those were most of our calls today, of animals with "itching" problems, or losing hair problems.
It is keeping their owners up at night!
My dog has the problem and I have to put her on steroids twice a year...spring and fall.
Funny, her owners and their children have the same allergy problems!!!
