I just noticed this. About one third of each ear is bald! I was thinking she had brown fur there, not I'm not so sure. The thing is the rest of her coat is gorgeous. Soft, thick and silky. I checked her ears for mites, she doesn't seem to rub them and I never noticed the other cat bothering her ears. He may sit on her when playing, but nothing with her ears.

Does anyone have any ideas or experience with this? She is a very healthy cat otherwise.......... :confused3

My youngest furbaby, Tink, overgrooms herself and is bald from near the end of her back to her legs and part of her tail. They at first thought it was fleas but since none of them have them, the vet ruled that out. They told me it was a stress reliever to her and offered me an anti-anxiety for her. We tried to the pherenomes first and spritz around the house which seems to calm her down some.

Where did you find the pherenomes spray? Did you have to get it through your vet?

At Petsmart...I bought a spritz bottle of it for about ten bucks. I had tried the diffuser but it cost 40 bucks, lasted a month, and as we have a very spread out ranch only covers so much space. With the spray I could sprtiz a bit in every room before I left for work. My furbabies are all very happy... :teeth:

I never heard about the pherenomes - is it like anti-catnip? Maybe I could use some for my self. The cat seems very relaxed unless she is stalking the other one or being sat on. She does poke her head through the vertical blinds to look out.......but the other cat does as well and his ears are fine.

Maybe she will need ear muffs this winter??

Any chance you've switched food recently? We switched flavors of Science Diet feline maintenance once, and it caused her to lose hair on her ears. We switched back to the regular flavor and it all grew back.

Our cat had something that sounds like yours. I can't remember exactly what it was. They gave us these drops that we had to put on the bald spot. After a while, the fur grew back. He hated it when we put it on. Then he would run around with wet ears. His were going bald on the tips and the side.

I wish I could remember what it was, but it was a few years ago.

We had somthing similar with our Chihuahua not too long after we had him neutered. I forget what it was called, but it wasn't stress induced. We had to use a cream on him for a week or two. It cleared right up (and could be contagious to humans as I recall).

Coincidentally, I just noticed yesterday that our barn cat has the bald ears too. Her ears are dark colored, so it hasn't been particularly noticeable (she's not usually in my lap like yesterday, she prefers to sit in the pasture with the horses). Looks like a trip to the vet to pick up medicine is in order.

Wow - thanks for all the advice. I think maybe a trip to the vet is on the list now. We haven't switched foods, basically because they refuse to eat anything except Friskies loaf style that comes by the case. I'll let you know that the vet says!
