My car wouldn't move today

the shift stick (automatic) wouldn't move out of Park. Has this ever happened to anyone? The car's at the shop now and I'm wondering how big a job it can be!

Does your car require that you depress the brake pedal before engaging the shifter in to gear? If that's not it, maybe the linkage is disconnected.

it could be the shift lock...what kind of car/what year?

Never fails! I was able to drive the car to the shop (by putting my key in the shrift lock (?)) and after turning off the car at the shop, it wouldn't work again. By the end of the day, the guy at the shop said they couldn't get it to NOT work again. So, I guess nothing is wrong with the car - maybe it was just in a bad mood this morning!
