after 3 years of having the kodak dx6490, it died. i took a picture and it shut off like the battery died. I recharge the battery and nothing, won't turn on, nothing. So i need a new camera, but no clue what to buy. I had something bulky, now i want something compact. easy to fit in a small purse but has good performance., i was thinking another kodak, but all cameras out there look awesome. What do you guys think? :confused3

If you want to stay with Kodak, I can recommend the P-880. If you want another brand, being a Canon lover, I'd recommend S2 IS.

before you go get a new camera, read the troubleshooting portion of your manual.. sometimes the software gets confused on electronic toys and needs to go thru a restart sequence to get it on line again. usually this takes the form of pressing certain buttons in a certain order or holding 2 buttons down at same time for a certain number of seconds, that sort of thing,,, take a few minutes to look at the manual and see if this is the case.

sometimes all you need to do is take the battery out for up to 48 hours, then put it back in and everything may be hunky dory once again.

My DH and I bought a Kodak V550 for our honeymoon and we love it. It's smaller than a deck of cards. The only small drawback for us is that it only has 3x zoom.
Whatever you buy, please make it a Kodak! (DH, family and friends all work for Kodak)

Three times zoom is not too bad (if it is optical), it usually will yield a fairly good range. Plus there are many companies that make lens adapters to hold screw in type lens expanders/converters. I had an old Canon S-20 (now my happy daughter's) with one of these that screwed in to the tripod mount and the .67X converter does a great job at fish-eye wide angles as well as a 2X converter which will double any of the zoom capabilities. If you want to increase range this is another way to keep something you may be familiar and happy with, plus with the adapter off it maintains a smaller profile than some of the larger cameras. Just need to make sure you buy good quality glass.

Only downside is that it tends to shadow the flash.

i have read trouble shooting and such but it said noting about a restart button, i tried batteries and i even tried the ac adapter without the battery but noting. it was useless.
