My budget blessing....

Okay, 2009 has not been a great year for me, either.

My home was flooded in September. We were blessed to be able to stay at my sister's condo but I have to pay her mortgage AND mine. I also have to pay my utilities and HERS.

Then my job told us we had to take furlough days till the end of the year. I now make $1000 less a month than I did a few months ago.

It hasn't killed me but it put a major tight rein on expenses for Christmas and everything else. I'm a single mother and every dime counts.

To make things worse, my son tells me last week he needs a tuxedo and new shoes for his Christmas chorus. I looked everywhere for one but they were either too expensive or wouldn't fit (he's a big boy with REALLY big feet).... :guilty:

Today I came to pick him up from school and he was carrying a suit bag. He happily threw it in the back seat and told me his chorus teacher handed it to him and told him a "secret donor" paid for the suit. :yay:

I have NO idea who did this, no one really knows our situation (my son is VERY shy and quiet) but omG I feel so BLESSED!!!

He now has a tux, the shirt, the cumberbund AND the shoes. AND THEY ALL FIT.

Merry Christmas..... :cloud9:

Merry Christmas to you both, and your anonymous donor! What a nice thing to do! May your luck get be much inproved in 2010!

Congrats!! What a wonderful gift, I love stories like this!!

Not to pry, but if you have ins, they should cover the increase in expenses. If not, can you limit the utilites at the flooded home while it's being repaired?

:grouphug: Hope that you will have a bright 2010 to look forward to!

Awww I love hearing stories like this. What a blessing!!!! You and your son certainly deserve this. God sent an angel to your rescue :wizard:. Merry Christmas :cloud9:

Good Good You have been bless

Nice! When my sister got married in 1990 we were working on a tight budget. My BIL is 6'3", short legged, long waisted, and size 13 feet. We stopped at a local consignment shop and found a white tux and shoes that FIT him! Cheap!

So happy for you!

How wonderful! Perhaps you can pay it forward next year after he has outgrown the suit :).

Thanks for sharing such a nice, happy, upbeat and heartwarming story :goodvibes It helps renew faith in mankind to hear those kind of stories.

Merry Christmas! Thanks for sharing - I was feeling down in the dumps and then I read your post!

I do have insurance, but it has a HUGE deductible. The utilities were used a lot during the drying process so the bill was ridiculous.

I am blessed, though, that I had insurance. Most flood victims here in Atlanta did not have flood insurance and are stuck with ruined houses and the most FEMA could give them was about $30,000. My area required flood insurance, most areas do not require it.

Thanks everyone for the :thumbsup2 I'm sending cookies to the chorus director, I'm sure he instrumented this. He's an awesome guy!

I would send cookies, too.

I would check with your insurance company -- by now I would think you should have hit the deductible. If your house is uninhabitable, they should be covering your living expenses in the condo including rent and utilities.

Where are you in the repair process? How long until you can get back into your home?

Can you believe it is going to rain again this week? I am beginning to think that I preferred the drought. (ok, just kidding, I think)

What a wonderful surprise. I know it had to warm you up inside. It made me feel good about people when sometimes they act like their heads are on backwards!

And yeah, I can't believe it is going to rain again. I teach in a preschool and our poor kids can't play on a wet playground. Those little monsters have energy and they need to burn it!!
