My boss does not return calls.

I am getting really frustrated. I take messages for my boss and then turn around the next day and get calls from the same people that he hadn't called them back.

It think it is so rude to the callers and me, because I am getting blamed for not giving him the messages.

Anyone else have this problem????

Who is it that's blaming you for not giving him the messages? The person calling? That would be pretty rude.

If your boss is blaming you, then I'd be pretty upset.

Over the past 33 years, I've had several bosses that didn't return phone calls when I gave them messages from someone, but you can't control that. All you can do (which is what I did) is to tell the person, when they call again, that you've given your boss the message and that's the extent of what you can do. I would tell the caller that whether your boss chooses to return the call is entirely up to him and you have no control over it.

Unless you know of a legitimate reason why he's not calling back (has been out of the office; has been in back-to-back meetings, etc.) you don't have to make excuses.

You need to distance yourself from the problem, do your job to the best of your ability, and let them think what they want to. They will anyway. Good luck!

Whenever someone calls for one of my bosses, I tell the caller that I will give them the message. If they go as far as to say to make sure he calls me, I just politely tell them that I can only give them the message.

I work outside the office and my boss never returns my calls or anyones for that matter. When people complain to me that they called our office and no one calls them back I always just tell them that I work for these people and they never call me back! It use to really upset me, until I decided that if it doesn't bother him why should I let it bother me.

I've never had a problem telling the callers, "Well, I passed him the message..."

know they've left a message. Is your boss a bureaucrat?

I'd like to take up for the bosses. I receive messages daily from sales reps trying to sell me all kinds of crap. I don't call them back if I know it's a sales call.
